I am trying to start a new game on xbox but I am getting stuck at the loading screen after character creation.

First time I tried an import, got through the character creation and started the intro where Anderson and Hackett talk and the game hung. The next time it hung on the blank screen just before the EA and BW logos. And now it is hanging on the loading screen. The xbox is still running, I can get to the system menu, but the game just sits there loading and loading and loading.

Next I tried a completely new game, no import. Same problem. Then I tried importing a different character. Same problem.

I can load an existing character and run around the Normandy, but I can't get a new game going.

It looks like something is wrong with the opening cinematic.

I don't know how the xbox works. I was thinking I could uninstall and reinstall, but I don't see that option. Is the game running off the disc? The disc looks to be in good shape, generally. If I got another disc might it work then? Most importantly, would I still have access to my collector edition stuff? (that seems to be downloadable stuff not specifically connected to the disc itself.)

I have no idea since I use a ps3.

Are you able to play any games that are on your hard drive that don't require the disc?

My problem on my ps3 is the disc drive is bad, but fortunately I have a digital copy of ME1 on my hard drive which lets me play it till I get the disc drive replaced.

I have been playing some DA2. Also, I can load an existing character and run around the Normandy and talk to folk. I just can't start a new game.

I am willing to go get another copy (used) if it is a problem with the disc, but I still want to have my collector edition stuff.

Maybe I should have bought that copy protection from the Salarian game seller. Only 2 credits!

I don't know. Seems like you guys have to mod your textures to get high def, while we get them by default.

Oh man you couldn't be more wrong. What you call high res is what we call low res :P

Though this isn't really true for me personally... I need a new pc. My baby's like 5 years old already, if not more.

No. What we get are xbox textures that are low res but look ok on a low res tv.
Monitors are a much higher resolution and low res textures look awful.
Graphically the old 360 is prehistoric in pc terms, which is why (if you have a lazy developer like bioware) we have to rely on fan mods to make the better textures and models.
This gets even more ridiculous when you consider that those assets would exist anyway as part of the game development (that is undertaken on pc).
Hopefully with the new consoles being gimped midrange pcs and thus sharing common architecture this should improve.
But we'll see.

@psycho - I did just that, dropped over a thousand pounds on a new system last November. Mass effect doesn't even make it wake up.

Is 1080p considered low res?

The 360 doesn't do 1080p natively it upscales it; even the new one struggles.

The core ME trilogy now is cheap, its the DLCs that cost...

I should have said 1080i not p. Anyway, my capture card is doing a 1920x1080i capture. I then downscale it to 960x540 in order to reduce upload times.

Anyway, I ran over to gamestop, and even though they didn't have a Salarian salesman, they did have a used copy for $5.21. So I am back in action! Yea.

Those textures are not in 1920x1080 no matter what is being output to the screen. If only there was a way to show you the difference between a properly modded high-res ME3 and the stock graphics. Even then, a mid-range gaming laptop like my older I7 consistently averages 50-60 fps with all the mods I have running.

I could post some before / after screens maybe but I am not far enough into the game to have many.
And even then my stock me3 has massive more aa and msaa etc than the xbox does so it looks better even like that.
