I'm actually thinking Scribbles will be bisexual, and Cassandra will be straight.
Cassandra, Cullen, Sera, Dorian, Solas and Scribbles will all likely be romantic options (although unsure of their exact orientations), with Varric as a special mini romance with a female dwarf inquisitor and Iron Bull a Vega/Jack style fling with male or female inquisitors.
Blackwell seems too 'doom-y' and serious to consider romance, Vivenne too snobby and scheming, Cole too crazy and Leliana is too wrapped up with the Warden.
I think Blackwall could make for a great romance. A really mature one, with him kind of 'opening up', if you will to the Inquisitor.
But I was thinking this for the romances:
Sera - Female only
Cassandra - Male only
Scribbles - Bisexual
Dorian - Bisexual or Male only
Cullen - Female only
Solas - Bisexual or Male only
I don't yet know where I think Iron Bull fits into all this, maybe he'd replace either Dorian or Solas.
I have this notion that Cassandra is bisexual and only attracted to mages (though she had to hide this fact for her job). Meanwhile, Vivienne could be bisexual but not attracted to other mages.
I think adding class or race restrictions to romances, on top of gender restriction, is simply too much.
The last time Bioware went that route was in Baldur's Gate 2, and I think the fact that they haven' done it since says enough about how well that went. Besides, I can't imagine what value could class and race restrictions possibly bring to romances. Imo, it serves no real purpose aside from frustrating players.
I'm mostly intressed in romancing Cullen, Dorian and Cassandra. I wonder if there is going to be only sexuality restrictions or also other like race and class restrictions.. I hope not.
There is going to be more romances than in previous DA games, to me this would mean most likely 6 since DA2 had 5 with Sebastian. Since there is different sexualities I think 2/2/2 is most likely and forums has been talking about that quite much already. This means that there is still 3 romances that are unconfirmed and only one sexuality is confirmed: Sera is lesbian. So there is still much to know, I hope they will open up romances more in the remaining E3.
If there 6 LI's and only 3 left unrevealed.. I'm going with Dorian, Scribbles and Iron Bull as romance options. Cullen is NPC romance so it's likely that Scribbles is NPC romance as well. Dorian seems quite good choice, many want to romance him and Iron Bull's character describtion at least teased about possible romance.
Personally I think Cullen and Cass are both BI because why announce them first and not say if certain players wont be able to romance them? That is just a hunch though and I was wrong about Sera being either straight or bi (happily wrong).
Scribbles seems like Cullen's NPC romance counterpart so that gives her a good chance in my view but I think Vivienne could also happen as a romance. It really depends how many there are. Obviously wihchever one of them or both of them will either be straight or bi.
Wishful thinking makes me hope Dorian is gay or bi at least and idk Solas could be anything tbh, i have no idea.
I think part of my problem with class restrictions is it's all down whether or not someone romances mages. Right? I mean, the big difference between Rogues and Warriors is agility versus strength (in a story setting, not gameplay) and so having a character say, "Yeah, I'm not really into Warriors, sorry," sounds... odd? I mean, if the body types of Inquisitors change depending on class, I could see it then, but not as it stands.
And the problem with race restrictions is that the vast majority play humans, and then elves take up a chunk, and the poor dwarves at like, what? 5% of players? Making content specifically for a dwarf Inquisitor feels a little fruitless, if so many people are going to miss it.
My thoughts on the possible romances are:
2/2/2
STRAIGHT - Scribbles; Cullen'
BISEXUAL - Cassandra'; the Iron Bull
GAY - Sera*; Dorian
2/4/2
STRAIGHT - Vivienne; Blackwall
BISEXUAL - Cassandra', Scribbles; the Iron Bull, Cullen'
GAY - Sera*; Dorian
* = confirmed sexuality, ' = confirmed LI
I could see Cassandra being straight instead with either Vivienne or Scribbles being bisexual, but I kinda hope not. Varric or Solas could take Blackwall's place in 2/4/2, but I don't know how likely it is for female Inquisitors to get both elves as LI, and Varric is always a crapshoot.
That's fun. We should bet on who is romanceable and for which gender. The winner gets one free copy of DAI from BioWare
.
Anyway, I also believe that Blackwall could make a great, mature romance.
So, I'm going with
Blackwall - Female only
Sera - Female only
Cullen - Female only
Dorian - Male only
Cassandra - Male only
Scribbles - Male only
Vivienne - Bisexual
Varric - Bisexual (although I am really not sure if he is a romance option at all given that he is already in an ongoing relationship with Bianca
)
Iron Bull - Bisexual

Thats the way i see it panning out, with maybe Varric and Blackwall switching
I'm hoping it goes something like
Cullen and Scribbles= Straight
Vivienne, Cassandra, Iron Bull, Varric= Bi
Sera and Dorian= Gay
Wont be that, as then the Straight romances can never have them included in party

But straight Inquisitors could just pick one of the bisexual options, if they had an objection to romancing an advisor.
I didn't realize the was a pre-requisite for romance. The two gay romances in Mass Effect were never in the squad and it worked out fine.Wont be that, as then the Straight romances can never have them included in party

True but when Bioware tries to be equal to everyone, i believe they will be shared out in and equal way.
I
know what i mean, but the above does sound slightly confusing

That's because they were only added into the last game. And as far as i can remember only added one new character in Vega
And? They could have easily made Vega gay or added a gay squadmate if having them in the squad really matter so much obviously it didn't to them so what does it matter. That's because they were only added into the last game. And as far as i can remember only added one new character in Vega

That's what i meant, they could have added Vega, but because the lesbian choice would have been out of party they didn't. It was the first time they had even input specific gay characters, some will have been happy they were included. Others upset because they weren't squad mates.
Romances don't bother me as much as most seem, i love DA for its story. I was merely making a point they are most likely going to be an equal set up
Until we know what race and gender gates there are I can't really plan ahead.
I do think my party will switch between cass/viv/IB and Sera/IB/Varric so far though, for the hilarious antics.
I will be very dissapointed if Cassandra is male only, but it also seems very likely.
Didn't Ser Gaider say something in the Story & Characters forum about the "possibility" of race restrictions in regards to the romance options? I'm not against that 'cos, hey, more options! As for, say, class restrictions, that's... a bit much, I think. We've already got gender restrictions in place, with the POSSIBILITY of race restrictions (I'm looking at you Bull and Varric), do you really think they'd implement more? Why not clothing restrictions? Height restrictions? Pet restrictions? Oh, you like cats? Sorry, Dorian likes dogs. ROMANCE DENIED!
Yeah, I don't really know what to think anymore. Analysing this romance stuff just gives me a damned headache, but I still love doing it, anyway! BSN, it's a helluva drug.

Two missions when playing DA:I
playthrough #1: reverse Mulan with Sera so that she thinks I'm a female and romance her.
playthrough #2: Name inquisitor Bianca and then "accidentally" break Varric's crossbow Bianca, bwahahaha.

In regards to the bolded: Link
If you read all the way to the bottom, you'll find he did say something about that.
The restrictions are far more likely to be based in technical difficulties than other reasons. Different sizes of model will collide at different points giving some strange results. ME romances were full of clipping and generally WTH moments because of this.
While you can write a scene is a matter of minutes, translating that to its animated conclusion is far less easy.
