Welcome to Lands of Larinia, an easy to play server with high emphasis on questing, featuring over 100 quests 350 areas to explore, not including the 100+ dungeon areas and 37 guild areas. Currently a vanilla server, no .haks or downloads required, Lands of Larinia is more focused on story and game play. The server is up 24/7 with limited DM support as I am the only admin for the server. Applicants welcome, but restrictions do apply. The server has a forum located at www.unearthed.forummotion.com with lots of helpful tools, but will be moved soon. Will update when it's done.

Story: Lands of Larinia is an all original world based off the ideas put forth by the original Dungeons & Dragons game. Larinia is comprised of two main civilizations; The Alliance, a civil mannered group of free towns, and The Lordships, a power driven nation who wants to acquire all the lands in Larinia.

You will start your adventures in a small town called Andoria, the furthest north town in the Alliance. Here you can learn about your surroundings by speaking to the mayor, who also hands out several simple jobs posted on the Job Board. Several other NPC's will talk to you about the history of the lands, if you so wish to learn about it, information that will surely help you out on your adventures.

The server is quest heavy and players should expect to get the majority of their XP and GP from these quests. most NPC's have or are involved with quests, some in several. some quests are staggered, meaning you will need to finish one or more quests to get the option for the next quest.

Player Information : Unearthed currently has no death penalty in place, thus making it easier to keep your level and gold. it was decided to do this due to the currently low player base. Players going solo may find it difficult at times without at least a summon by your side, especially at the higher levels. Epic characters get the luxury of no gate tax, this takes effect at level 21. A death penalty will take effect at some point effecting only epic toons, causing a player to loose a base xp loss of 50xp per level.

There have been some class, spell, and feat changes meant to help the player succeed in solo game play. More info can be found by signing up.

Just as a suggestion, you probably want to make that publicly available so that people can see what they think of said changes without signing up.

FYI the IP address/port combination should have a colon in it, not the last period.  I pasted directly from that and it didn't connect at first; I thought it was down.

e.g. 67.183.226.6:5121  not 67.183.226.6.5121

you should also consider posting the spell changes.  I wasn't happy to find that Magic Weapon was changed from +1 EB to +1d4 magic dmg instead and that Greater Magic Weapon was changed from a sliding +1 to +5 EB to +1d6 magic damage..  Also Darkfire was changed from on-hit to a temp damage bonus which will overwrite any of the 2 previous spells.  I'd made gear purchases planning on leaning on GMW (e.g. spent my money not on weapons) and buffs and now that's out the door.  Would have been nice to have known ahead of time.  Something to consider.

You should definitely also consider a buff rod - one that "stores" spells not like  sequencer, but where it casts them all from your memory all at once when not in combat.  Doesn't give a real advantage other than not having to spend forever buffing from the radial dial for casters.

I tried this server out briefly and quickly got myself into an awful situation.

I started the module in an inn and before I made it outside I had like 8 quests for varying locations that I knew nothing about.  I was also "fronted" 700g to help with one of them.  I went to the general store and picked up some armor and weapons and potions.

I decided to tackle the "dying woman" quest first which required me to take a ferry to another town, simple fetch quest.  Except, eh, apparently I needed to pay 200g for the ferry which I did not have.

So I left the starting town and killed feral dogs who dropped loot, figured I had saved enough, then tried to reenter the town only to find out I'd have to pay an entry tax of like 50g.  So I went back and killed more dogs to be safe, vendored my loot, barely had 200g, and took the ferry.

Found the person to fetch the goods from who told me I needed to go to another town for some of the items needed.  Turns out that was ANOTHER ferry which cost 500g.  I spent some time trying to raise the gold, all I could feasibly kill were the stray dogs, and gave up in disgust after the extremely slow going.  Just wasn't worth it.

Presumably if I had spent that 700g on the two ferry rides I might have been fine, though I wonder how I'd have gotten back to the starting town since presumably that ferry would charge gold too.  Maybe just suicide to respawn back near the start?

Was a rather poor experience.

I remember this was 200 or 250 lately? Though it seems to me that when I last played this the monsters wasnt so tough as they are now... Wonder if zero made them harder or its just my feeling.

But yeah, this gave me some hard time too from the start, though I somehow (probably looting rats in cellar) got beyond that and had no more money issues after. Suicide is not really working I think, you might loose gold when respawn and the "temple" is always outside town. But yes this issue can easily happen to the newbie and discourage him from playing this otherwise great server.

This server is basically a copy of the Three Towns server. With some different class/spell changes, but the general gameplay experience is almost the same, maybe better (3T made some really bad decisions like lootbag from each monster) and with more quests to do.

MagicalMaster.. I can completely understand your confusion if you didn't read the dialogue when the NPC's were talking and instead just clicked through to the end like you might be used to on other servers, trust me... I've done this before, but if you had taken the time read the all dialogue you would have read this:

Dr. Mugner "Splendid, you'll need to go to the town of Rasmar across the lake, it would be best to take the ferry there, once there, speak to Carri Heraldson in the Guardians Hall, she'll have all you'll need."

in your journal you would have read:

"He continues to explain the fastest way to get to Rasmar would be by ferry, crossing over the lake."

I'm not saying the blame is completely yours, i'm sure I could have mentioned it had a cost of 200 gold or that the mayor of the town had more information or even that there is a gate tax based on your level on a sign before you leave town, but in a quest based server that it is, my thoughts are that it should go without saying that you need to read all dialogue and possibly take notes. In some cases taking notes will be the only way you can finish a quest unless you have a good memory. These quests are given without an update until you find the location or item the quest giver had mentioned. In short, it is imperative that you read all the dialogue for quests given on the server.

Almost all quest information can be found on the forums:

http://landsoflarinia.freeforums.net/

this includes quest walk throughs for all jobs and quests in town,

class changes,

Maps!!!!, (seamless)

and sooner than later, a list of all spell changes and skill checks.

I would welcome you or anyone else to come and let me show you just how easy it is to get started in Lands of Larinia.

Please feel free to message me here or on the server forums (registration required for messages) with a time and I'll meet you there.

I'm on PST (-8 GMT) available most times through out the day.

If nothing else, I thank you for giving my server a try and maybe one day you'll give it another go.

P.S. Shadooow, the pre-epic bad guys haven't changed since last time you played and I DO appreciate the endorsement.

What in the world are you talking about?

1. I read all the dialogue and the journal carefully

2. I equipped myself with starter gear before working on a quest and thus didn't HAVE the 200g necessary for the ferry

3. I mentioned this explicitly in my original post

"I went to the general store and picked up some armor and weapons and potions.

I decided to tackle the 'dying woman' quest first which required me to take a ferry to another town, simple fetch quest.  Except, eh, apparently I needed to pay 200g for the ferry which I did not have."

I had *zero* confusion about where I was supposed to go for the quest or what I had to do.  But I didn't have the MONEY to go on the ferry due to buying armor/weapons/potions.  And then once I raised the money for the FIRST ferry I got stuck again because I needed another 500g for the SECOND ferry.

The only way to effectively complete that quest initially is to buy NOTHING and basically go naked to the other towns, heedless of any potential danger.  Otherwise you will not have the 700g (because you start with exactly 700g) needed for the two ferry trips and I'm not even sure how you'd get back to the starting town at that point without suiciding because you'd have 0 gold.

My apologies, I clearly misread or misunderstood something in what you had originally wrote. it was not my intention to upset you, more just my assumption that you might not have read everything, much like I tend to do when I just want to get in to a server. I'm sure I saw things this way because I know the basic structure of how quests "should" be done, and I'm sure it confused me as to why you would choose that quest when there are much easier ones. Again, please accept my apologies, it was obviously a terrible misunderstanding.

Furthermore, I would still like to extend my previous offer to you in hopes you will have a more pleasant experience while on the Lands of Larinia server.

1. It's literally the first quest you get

2. It's a fetch quest

3. It has an air of urgency to it

Why wouldn't you expect people to do it first?

The other quest I tried was the undead in the crypts but there were way too many enemies for my gear/level in an attempt to raise gold.  Nor could I kill enemies outside the second town I took the 200 gold ferry to, which left me with quests near the first town -- hence I tried the undead.

What order did you expect people to tackle quests in?

You know your right, I can't expect people to just know the order and it's true, that is the first quest available.

i just figured that people that read everything would take in to consideration the recommendations I put forth in the signage in the starting area.

first 4 lines of that sign:

Welcome to the Lands of Larinia server.
All information on the server can be found at http://landsoflarini...reeforums.net/
Including quest walkthroughs and order they should be done.
Here are a few helpful tips for the beginning player.

So thinking on this a bit I will take your voiced issue and post more signage in the starting town for new players in hopes this sort of situation won't happen again.

thank you for bringing this to my attention.

I would still like to extend my previous offers to you in hopes you will have a more pleasant experience while on the Lands of Larinia server.

I don't see any quest walkthroughs or order on that forum.

I may give it another shot when I have the time, busy on ABC project, helping Bortsonofbort, remastering Aielund, helping YeOldeFog with scripts, need to finish CaveGnome's ABC module, and have other projects of my own.  And that's not counting the guild I lead in WoW or minor things like, y'know, real life ;)

well your always welcome back anytime, just like anyone else that wants to give the server a shot.

quest walkthroughs are for forum members only.

sign up is free, automatic acceptance, and unlike several other forums i've been on, i don't bug you.

if you need assistance and you don't see me on after a certain amount of time, pm me here or on the forums and i'll set up a time to help you out.

Even though I have a full plate with a family and school, I strive to help the players and give all the support i can.
