Why health bars and a HUD?

if there were no hp bars, controlling a party would be a major pain in the neck. BW always allows us to script NPC behaviour, but sometimes it's way too slow, sometimes they don't run away from aoe (i'd like to think devs wanted NPCs to emulate some swtor players)

"i'm going to switch to Viv, need a buff... oh wait, she's down. when did that happen?!"

 

as for immersive indicators... i don't know, visible injuries like tripping, holding one arm or whatever... looking at companions every 5 secs would break the immersion for me (unless the combat was paced down, but from the dragon fight footage i can tell that is not the case)

 

HUD is a bit too sleek for a fantasy rpg, but that's just my opinion and completely different story

Personally I love seeing Devs play with the HUD up. I look at the HUD all the time and I loved seeing the game actually being played, it's much more refreshing than seeing a pre-rendered video of combat with no UI. Those days at Bioware are over!
