Asexual romance?

So far we know that gamers of different sexual orientations will have at least one romance. I wonder whether asexuals will also have a romance.

First of all, Sebastian wasn't an asexual romance. He is abstinent by choice, and seems to have had sexual encounters before his life at the Chantry. We don't know whether he enjoyed it, but as I understood it from the banter, he did.

Second, asexuality is not equal to antisexuality. Someone can be asexual and fall madly in love. One just does not enjoy sex so much as straight or gay people, but one can enjoy the physical and emotional closeness when doing it. There are many different sorts of asexuals, from those who like sex "as a sign of emotion", and to those who find it disgusting. Asexuals can have lovers, families and children.

There are also demi- and graysexuals, who feel aroused only by a specific person, and / or only if they know the person well. Might be the case for Alistair who first refuses to have sex with you unless you know each other better, but as he is hardened and joins Isabela's company, I doubt he is demisexual.

I can imagine Blackwall being an asexual romance, if there is one. He knew from the beginning that he won't have a family, which was one of the reasons why he joined the Grey Wardens - as they are mostly infertile. Vivienne could also be asexual. Don't know why I have this feeling.

I think there probably won't be an asexual romance in DAI. But since we have straight, bi, gay, lesbian and trans characters in Thedas, other sexual orientations don't seem so unlikely in future DA games.

I would love an asexual romance.
I play the romances for the emotional connection, not for the sexual aspects.

I believe you always had the option to say no to sex in these games? I'm sure DA:I has it. If it doesn't then, nothing wrong with having it, adds more roleplaying options for people I guess.

In DAO, you can say no to sex and still continue the romance, I believe. But in DA2, you couldn't continue the romance storyline unless you went through with the romance scene.

I would like to see that. I never much cared for the weird Ken/Barbie doll sex scenes that are in most video-games... although a lot of 14 year olds will throw a fit..

I think this comes down to one of those "reality of business" style ideas.

While I totally support everyone doing what they like in reality, there does come a point where a game developer simply has to say, "Full stop. We can't possibly represent EVERY possible variation of love/lust/etc. We're just going to stick to representing the most commonly expressed positions".

Remember, despite what people tend to think around here, the romance is just an add-on bonus content. The actual game is a fantasy combat simulator with a deep story.

I'm not intending to be disrespectful to your position. But I wouldn't expect to see asexuality represented as a romance option any time soon.

Although, if the "sex scenes" were done as a fade-to-black and properly framed, then the sex is just headcanoned anyway. I could see them using a trick like that to make asexuality possible (or at least, not directly refuted).

Yeah, I remember the option to say no being there in DA:O, just wasn't sure about DA 2.

I would love it, would be new and interesting to see. I cant actually think of a single game that has an asexual romance in it. If we're going to have homosexual options for the sake of equality its only fair if the same is done for asexuals.

A lot of games when they weren't edgy enough to have sex scenes or even fades to black could have been classified as having asexual romance... or maybe you'd say that doesn't count, that's just presexual. w/e

It's not the point that the Warden / Hawke cannot be asexual. But it would be interesting to have a specific companion who says "I love you, but I can't sleep with you", and even if the player choses to have sex with this LI, it would result in a loss of approval / dilemma for the LI / dilemma for the player / dramatic conversation / even breakup from the LI's side who does not want to hurt the player with such a relationship.

What? so the companion say "sorry no sex" but the player still has sex with them for minus 10 points? =/

A tad far that one i think

Well the companion can try it and find out he does not like it ;) Or say "no" from the beginning. Just an idea how such romances could be implemented.

I think it would be cool if there were one, and I would also like an aromantic relationship like Zevran's could be in DA:O. I.e., just sex and no emotional component.

Seems abit far though tbh m8, in that scenario i reads of pure pressure to try something for -10 points tbh

If they included a character like that tbh it should be a flat no an not well let me think of it, i really dislike the sort of vision of pressure that idea portays to try something like that honestly

I tend to agree with this poster.  I don't particularly care for the sex scenes in game; I think it should just be a fade to black (because it always looks so bad anyways!)  I don't like the idea of having an asexual romance for the sake of having an asexual romance.

Oh joy, this topic again...

OP, I fully agree with you that people who are asexual, celibate, or just not interested in the romances for whatever reason need to be acknowledged by the game somehow, yet Bioware constantly rebuffs us. I'd wager that there are far more of us than LGBT gamers, and yet Bioware is going out of their way to cater to them. I've asked for things like this many times before. And guess what responses I always got? "Forever Alone" memes, pathetic jokes about doing things with my hand, crazy cat lady slurs, and endless more personal insults. Huh, and people here wonder why the romance-obsessed people on these forums have such a bad reputation elsewhere on the internet. Frankly, I take it all with stride, because I see it as a pathetic defensive reaction from them.

I honestly don't see why an asexual person wouldn't let a sexual person that they are romancing to have sex with them. Ok, you don't personally enjoy it, but does it hurt? You don't enjoy pleasing someone you love? I mean when I give someone a back rub for example, I don't directly enjoy the act, it's a bit of a chore, but I am doing it for someone because I want to make them feel good. If I didn't enjoy sex, I can't imagine why it would bother me if a person I loved had fun with my body anyway. Just curious.
