I'm currently writing a post Destroy fan-fic and I have a question that I want to discuss.

At the end of Mass Effect, Vigil says that the Keepers are Reaper pawns to maintain the Citadel to welcome the new races for every cycle and they open the Relay to Dark Space when it's time. Then when the citadel was moved to Earth to harvest the humans, they are said to aid in the processing process as we've seen when Shepard popped into the tunnel after he/she reached the beam.

The question is, after the destroy ending, particularly the best one were Shepard lives, what will the Keepers do now that the Catalyst and the Reapers are dead? Will they still do what they do and help rebuild the citadel over Earth or since the Reapers are gone, do they no longer have a directive or purpose and no reason to replenish their dwindled numbers and fix the citadel?

As I understand it, the Keepers primary function is to maintain the Citadel. With the Reapers spending 50,000 years in dark space, the Citadel tower must control their day-to-day activities. Without the Reapers, assuming the Citadel isn't too heavily damage, the Keepers should (in theory) go back to their normal routine of daily maintenance and repairs.

They might have one night of drunken debauchery to celebrate, though.

Yeah, presumably the keepers will continue their activities on the Citadel unchanged. We even saw that they were still at it during the endgame, those keepers in the area where the beam spits Shepard out with all the bodies. They never talk like the keepers can leave the Citadel - since there's talk of self-destruction in the event that people try to tamper with them, I would assume that an attempt at smuggling one off the Citadel just results in a dead keeper. So they'll keep doing what they do.

If they survived.... They might keep doing what they were doing. Maybe they will help rebuild the Citadel if you bring the parts together and provide some help and materials for the repairs.

If you picked Control then the Citadel was never destroyed and they just keep on doing what they were doing. As far as we know the Keepers had no direct contact with the Reapers or the Catalyst, which could be because the Proteans disabled their communication. They are engineered organic life otherwise. With some kind of transmittors and equipment that they carry with them. Those boxes on their back etz... I think the box on their back had an antenna? Maybe the proteans disabled the boxes or the tranmittor transmittign to the boxes.

I wouldn't be surprised if all keepers are fried from the wave going through the Citadel and possibly the keeper tunnels and then out the tower.

Even if all the Keepers get fried, no one really knows where they come from. The number of Keepers never changes. One dies and another appears to take it's place. I think their is some device in the tower, or maybe multiple devices throughout the Citadel, that will manufacturer a Keeper when needed. Bioware hasn't explained where they come from yet, why start now?

For the purpose of the fan fiction described in the OP, the keepers are behaving differently at the end of ME3 due to direct override by the Reapers. Assuming the Reapers are destroyed, the Keepers "should" return to their default settings.

I think they die with the reapers, the geth, and EDI. The citadel, just like the Normandy, will still function but now the survivors have to figure it out... which they will do as they rebuild it.
