I meant hack as in hacked it together. :) Not as in hacked the program.

Guys its obviously just a joke. That isn't an actual dialog in the game. Notice how the Salarian's mouth rarely opens

I'll be sad if that's the case. :)  They did a good job if it's a joke-hack.

I have to agree. Finding that merchant would be epic win. I think it's genuine though.

Darn Canadians don't know anything about real football.

What with their 110 yard fields and three downs, it's an abomination I tell you!

Damn Americans don't know anything about real football, they call it soccer. Ridiculous.

Hah, I'll say what I've said many times before.

Role Playing Games are about Role Playing, creating a character and guiding him through the well-written story. Character development is secondary at best.

No, you are thinking of adventure games. Like King's Quest.

RGPs are about the character. The skills and stats of the character matter in RPGs.

Of course the RPG haters are saying fewer skills are better and weapon skills are stupid and that the actual character's skills shouldn't matter in an RPG. Soldier and infiltrator should be equlally good at bypassing security measures......

Yes, because games like King's Quest allowed you to make decisions that affected the story... oh, wait.

Yeah, those people deserve to be made fun of.

God I WISH there were only 80 pages. Most RPGS are 300+. Anyway I would love to see a very RPG heavy game, forceing you to think and plan out your character(Dragon Age is okay here). I want a game that has tons of options, we really need a good D&D 4e CRPG.

Anyway I find this video very funny. I love the dig on sports games, and MMORPGs. Way to go Bioware.

What's wrong with pen and paper?  :P

But really, until humanity achieves the creation of actual AIs, CRPGs will never reach the freedom and "outside-the-box" freedom of P&P, because they are inevitably bound by rules and limitations. P&P RPGs don't suffer from this problem because they have a human arbiter, the DM, which allows players to pursue actions that don't fall within the normal scope of the rules, if they so desire. But more importantly it is because ultimately the rules don't matter. Why? Because the DM is allowed to bend or even break the rules at his or her discretion. And don't even get me started on trapfinding...

So it's better, in my opinion, to pursue a more cinematic approach, as Bioware have been doing, while still offering enough freedom within the game's natural limitations to make the experience a personal one. And I, for one, think they have been doing a terrific job of that in recent years.

Okay, rant over.

This.

RPGs were originally tactical wargames with character development. Then they (the pencil and paper kind) evolved into "role playing", where they are now basically make-belive or cowboys-and-indians but with dice. Computer RPGs follow the wargaming tradition more closely. Part of me wishes CRPGs went with a different name so that RPG purists wouldn't try to fruitlessly find the penci-and-paper experience inside a machine.

And I don't see how ME2 would be a bad game just because it's a bad RPG game even if it turns out to be a good non-RPG game. In such a case all we'd have to blame is the marketers for mislabeling ME2.

And for the record, I would love to see a game that is essentially a shooter (gameplay depends on player skill instead of the character's stats) but with a world that is as expansive and open as any RPG instead of the usual series of levels. It seems only S.T.A.L.K.E.R. really did this, though I suppose you could include action adventures like The Legend of Zelda.

It might just be me, but I swear the only reason stats existed in PnP was because there was no other way they really could translate combat and skill checks in any other form.

For me, a RPG is about having a character (or group of characters) being thrown into a situation and deciding what to do within that situation. Someone keeps suggesting that adventure games also give options in dialogue and what you do, but honestly, they only do that so that you have to figure out the puzzles.

And ME2 is a RPG to me, because they went into it making a RPG, but added shooter elements. Not making a shooter and adding RPG elements.

They started with the core about Sheppard's story, what decisions he has made and what decisions he will have to make. Then they decided to make the combat more shootery because RPG gameplay with guns isn't all that brilliant. And then condensed skill points so rather than getting 3 skills points per level and each skill point means a minuscule bonus, you get 1 skill point and each one makes a considerable difference.

They didn't decide "Ok, so you shoot people and can customise your abilities, but hey I know! We're give them choices and stuff like in a RPG!"

That said I do miss the days when I spent most of the day in a RPG baking bread.

"Bioware haters?" PURGE THE NON BELIEVERS!

On a serious note, I am getting tired of this hatred, instead of "ZOMfg why is ME2 rubbish? All it is is a 3rd person shooter Z0MF9!" why not produce constructive criticism, get your grammar sorted out and better still, wait and play the game instead of hurling blind speculation around, good video, Long Live Bioware!
