If they are anything like the 750ti the difference will be huge.

That is the thing, since the chip manufacturer has problems delivering the 22nm chips in the needed numbers, the 800 series is most like to be just another Kepler refresh.

And if you read my previous post about the alleged GPU specifications, then you'd see how the performance difference isn't much, especially compared to what AMD is rumored to be shipping with their next GPU line-up. Besides, Nvidia themselves have said that there will be no big performance jump with the 800 series compared to 700 series GPUs.

As always it's wait and see for the final products, but all indicators color a picture that ain't pretty for the 800 series so far.

Wish I had enough money to buy a new computer, but I don't see that happening for at least another year. By then, my current computer will be 5 years old. That's about how many years I wait till buying a new computer.

Anyway, I know my current system will run DA:I but probably not very well on high or max settings. I have: Intel Core i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80GHz, 8 GB RAM, and an AMD Radeon HD 5770 GPU (1.0 GB vRAM).

It was a really nice computer when I bought it almost 5 years ago now, but it's definitely outdated now, alas. Still, it plays all of my games at at least medium settings so I'm hopeful for DA:I. :)

You could squeeze a bit more performance with a GPU upgrade as the i7 860, whilst certainly dated, is still plenty powerful for what most current games want from a CPU.

Have you seen that New Asus ROG 760 Striker has 4GB of Vram and its supposed to be pretty reasonable price wise failing even a standard 760 would be more than powerful enough although I suppose it depends on what PSU he's using

Meh, 4GB VRAM GTX 760 is a waste of money in my opinion. There's no game the GTX 760 will run that needs 4GB VRAM and those games (or more accurately gaming at resolutions) that require more than 2GB VRAM won't run well on a GTX 760.

Also, even though tests show that games can nominally use more than 2GB VRAM (Bf4 for example uses up to 2.5 GB last time I checked benchmarks), ressource allocation means that the actual amount of VRAM that is needed is well below 2GB, whereas the rest is siply the GPU preloading some data and the difference in actual game performance is negligible unless you are playing at high display resolutions (in which case I wouldn't recommend a GTX 760 anyway). That aside, more important than VRAM for high resolution gaming is GPU ROPs and memory bus width. A GTX 760 with 4GB VRAM still can't handle higher resolutions because it simply can't calculate enough pixels in time due to hardware limitations.

More than 2GB VRAM are only necessary if you want to game at highest quality @ at least 1440p resolution (and if you can settle for "just" high settings or lower, 2GB VRAM will serve just fine for 1440p too).

Sorry if I'm getting too technical, don't want to hijack the thread with tech-talk ... though I fear that's too late, I'm hardly talking other stuff by now.

I was hoping for a system specs reveal during E3, but it looks like it isn't happening. :(

So, in my country GTX770(Gigabyte) is the same price as R9 290 (Asus) + BF4 code. But i am greedy like that and will wait till September, cause things may get even better.

Anyone with opinion on AMD drivers and support ? Cause 290 is tearing open everything NVidia has that is not twice more expensive. I wonder if that mantle will be a thing in DAI.

Your cpu is good. Especially for 4 years old PC. HDD is not that important. I think the minimum RAM will be 6, or at best 4. But the real problem is that with your video you will most definitely struggle and probably wont be able to play the game even on low. Your gpu should be priority in your shopping cart.

Mantle is confirmed to be in DAI http://www.kitguru.n...more-ea-titles/

Also right now my Powercolor PCS+OC R9 290 is tearing up Star Citizen's Arena Commander in 1080(1920x1080) I'm getting a steady 60FPS on the very high preset which is darn good considering its using Cryengine 3 and this is without any mantle code can only imagine what it will be like with a second R9 290 and mantle

You probably won't see any difference with Mantle, for when I was looking at the numbers from what its been used in Battlefield 4, it might have given a frame or two per second.  The area where there was a biggest improvement of double digit frames per second is when the processor was around minimum requirements and decreased from there.  I could be wrong but the idea I understand for Mantle and after seeing those numbers I believe Mantle was designed to offload some of the CPU tasks, so if you have a CPU that goes beyond what is needed for the game Mantle won't give that big of a boost.

The R9 290 is by far the better GPU (roughly comparable to a GTX 780). Though you really, REALLY want an AMD GPU only with aftermarket cooling solution and never, NEVER the reference cooler. Because it's ****. So better pay a couple dozen bucks more for a good cooled GPU, but even so, an R9 290 around thirty-fifty bucks more expensive than a GTX 770 is still the way better investment.

Though I have to wonder, is the Nvidia GPU so hellishly expensive, or the AMD one so freaking cheap?

I think the AMD cards were artificially high recently with all the people buying them for Bitcoin mining, so nVidia left their prices alone and stores jacked up the prices of the AMD ones because they were scarce.

Bit of both really Nvidia have always charged a premium for their cards at least in the UK here for example my Powercolour PCS+OC R9 290 is pretty much the the best non reference 290 it has a pretty good overclock 1040Mhz on the GPU and 5400Mhz on the VRAM never has gone above 71C averages about 62C under load price for this card is £331 the cheapest reference 780 Starts at £360 non reference hover around the £400 mark.

you might get medium settings at a playable framerate cant say for certain because being a gamer I avoid all laptops as they are not really built for modern gaming and the "gaming" laptops are ridiculously expensive.

Well, here in Germany you get good GTX 770s for around 260€ and good R9 290s start at 340€, eighty bucks more expensive, so I was wondering what's with the equal price tag.

How would my PC do?

8GB RAM, Intel i7-2600 3.40 and an NVidia GeForce GTX 560Ti.

I plan on buying a 770/ti but I'd rather not if I can help it.

Will do good enough for high settings at least, possibly maximum depending on how graphically intense the game is. That rig would be good enough for medium/high mix settings in Bf4, and I doubt DAI will be as GPU hungry.

Ok, so here's my system:

  • Intel® Core™ i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz
  • 16GB RAM
  • 64-bit Windows 7 System
  • GeForce GTS 450 @ 1GB

I'm getting a new graphics card and PSU and by the looks of it, I'll be getting either a GTX 770 or 780 at either 2GBs or 3GBs, depending on where i get it..

My sister is also getting her first PC and would like to know how her requirements are going to fair.:

  • Intel Core i5-4460 @ 3.2Ghz
  • 8GB RAM
  • Windows 8.1 OR Windows 7 (She hasn't decided yet)
  • Geforce GTX 650 @ 2GBs

Both systems only really fair questionable at the GPU section.

The GTX 650 (I trust it's the non-Ti version) is probably just good enough for medium settings. And if you upgrade to either a GTX 770 or 780, there's no reason for your system to not run the game at maximum and still boring your PC into sleep.

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz

RAM: 4GB (dual-channel)

GPU: 1023 MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560

Hoping for at least medium settings but it's probably impossible. :P

Thanks man! When you say "that rig", I assume you mean after I get the 770? :o

What GPU would you recommend, actually?
