DAO was based on NwN 'Aurora', which was initially designed as 100% mod-friendly 'do-it-yourself' engine. It's not even remotely same as FB.
Also, I remember that we were promissed to get the official configs 'in September', which is about to end soon. I take it there are no official requirements yet?

Yeah it was aimed towards the end of month so it coould still either be this Tuesday or the following one, since they seem to do announcements on Tuesdays.

I hope so too. Not that I'm worried that my system won't run it well (just bought an i7 4790K & GTX 980 for this very purpose) but it would be nice to finally get a confirmation and see how it compares to BF4 seeing as they are two completely different game types with different requirements.

am not worried either i can play BF4 on my i3 but am shoping for new rig as well speck want a gtx 980 so damn bad
I feel like I should be good running on the high end but I've never really put this computer through any graphic strain. I also have zero experience with BF4 and - not meant as a dig - but I'm not interested in getting it to get a feel for Frostbite. Do you think this setup should be good to go on whatever High/Ultra-High settings are available?
(Win8, more than enough RAM, more than enough power)

I am not sure on the other things, but how ram do you have.
Also would recomend upgrading that video card to something with at-least 2 gb of Vram or higher if you can afford not so much for this game but future games in general.
While I mainly game on a laptop (it's actually a microwave with aspirations) I was planning to play DA:I on my computer, as this poor little toaster can barely handle Origins without cooking itself. The computer is half-prebuilt and half-customized, as it was bought before I knew what the heck a GPU even is.
Here are the basic specs for the computer:
CPU: Intel i7 3820 CPU @ 3.60 GHz
RAM: 16GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 3GB
Motherboard: MSI MS-7760
PSU: 1000 Watts (no idea what brand herp derp)
Anything I can upgrade before Inquisition? I'd like to be able to play it on Ultra, and the advice I've seen given on this thread so far looks pretty solid.

its fine as is,if you wanted to be really pernicerty you could swap the CPU for a 4790K and and z97 motherboard but you don't really need to
So, any idea when we will get the final word? I have until the game comes out to make my final decision on platform, PC or PS3. Now, I would also like to know, how do you expect the game to look at minimum? I mean, I know if BF4 can be used as a benchmark, I have the minimum at least but I'm not sure if I want to do it as minimum or if I want to go with the known quantity of PS3. I really do want to get it on the PC, just not sure when I'll be able to upgrade my computer (especially since I use a laptop, so it's not just a simple upgrade)
EDIT: Hmm okay I just found this video that shows a comparison between LOW and ULTRA in BF4, so if I am okay with the "low" look in this video until I can upgrade my computer, can I expect to be happy with DAI?
(Be sure to watch the video in 1080P, so you aren't getting crappy video compression)

I'd figure minimum on the PC is going to be better than the PS3 unless your running a PC thats 8 yrs old Linus did a video that showed even a 5yr old Nvidia GTX 480 that was underclocked could still outperform a PS4( they actually said they couldn't underclock that card any further
To be fair, a GTX 480 was the end of the scale back in the day and the fastest single GPU until the next generation of GPUs came along. It's still a very good GPU, though outdated by most performance oriented GPUs these days if only because time and technology marches on.

Exactly thing being though as it said in the video he under clocked as far as was possible and it was still outperforming the XB1/PS4 which are supposed to be an improvement over the PS3/X360 so as long as AbsolutGrndZer0 had something tht was built in the last 3-4years they should have no problem getting better performance on PC then what they'll get on their PS3.

Well, it is an improvement over the XBox360/PS3.
But one can't exactly expect a complete system to outperform a single component that is just as expensive on its own as the entire console is together. Granted, the real value of a GTX 480 at these days would be around 180-200 bucks if I compare it to similarily performing GPUs (like the R9 270), but even so you'd be hardpressed to build a PC with that GPU performance for 400-500 bucks and considering that the console systems are actually sold at a loss for the manufacturers that hardly comes as a surprise.
It's a console thing. They are around two years behind technology when they are released due to the limitations of having to develope the entire system. PC hardware itself isn't up to date at release, but since those are singular components that don't have to get engineered with a whole system, the effective technology delay is far less pronounced.

True I have seen a few build guides that show you can build a full system for around $600 that will outperform a PS4/XB1 if your starting from the ground up, though most people tend to be upgrading piece by piece instead of a entire new system.Granted in my case I started from the ground up as the last system I had used a AMD Athlon II X4 630@2.8Ghz on an ASRock N68C-S UCC both of which I got new back in 2009 was using that till November last year, had it OC'd to 4Ghz along with a Radeon HD6770 1GB I think during the entire time the GPU was the only purchase(£127)
The only reason I went for a full build from scratch was to play Star Citizen,DAI and Witcher 3 in 2K and even then I've carried over my O.S Keyboard, mouse and some Hard Drives to supplement the new ones.Once I'm done with this system I doubt I'll be upgrading for about 5-6yrs and even then it'll likely only be 1 or 2 components

I had to laugh at Slick when he said "yeah I could not underclock my 5yr old GPU low enough to match a next gen console(PC Master race problems)" I really should not laugh but it was so dang funny

the htx 480 was a beast back in the day and still is a good GPU but yea 5 year old GPU stomping the xbone and ps4 is just sad
Ok, it's not "$400-$500", it's $700 (+shipping), but the Digital Storm Vanquish II is a true mid-level gaming rig from a custom builder that's not only better than any (current) console, it's better than what you can build yourself for the same money.
Specs:
- NVIDIA GTX 750 1GB
- Intel Core i3 4350 CPU
- 8GB 1600MHz Memory
- 500GB 7200RPM HDD
- ASUS H81 Chipset Motherboard
- 430W Corsair CX Power Supply
- 3 year warranty
- Lifetime Tech support
- Ships within 72 hours
A great deal. And when you factor in not having only yourself to blame if something doesn't work... Priceless!

Exactly and a lot of people forget with the consoles is that by the time you factor in 12 months of XBL a spare controller and a couple of games with season passes/dlc's they'll be paying around $600-$700 and they're stuck with that tech for maybe 7yrs since the only thing they can upgrade is the Hard Drive

The i3 is a Amazing cpu and windows 8 sees it as a quadcore
This thread explains why the guy that helped put together my current said was not problem making a computer that would last at-least a few years and out perform next gen consoles by miles.
