Oh, I have and idea of what I'm getting in my new rig. That's not in question:

ASRock Z87 PRO3 MB and Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Liquid Cooling Combo

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600)

NVIDIA GTX760 2GB

+ other tidbits

The only question remains is how ticked off she'll be once I tell her that over $1300 will be missing from her Christmas plans.

Might want to replace that GTX 760 with the new GTX 970. The bottleneck in your system will otherwise be your GPU (low vram, 970 have 4gb). Also the 970 is future proof without costing tons. I plan to get one myself right before DA:I (unless there's another delay) release to replace my 660 2gb.

Anyway I like how the newest and strongest of GPUs can't run 4k resolution for games very smoothly. My monitor has a good resolution 1600x900, but I prefer 1920x1080. Heck, I won't buy a new monitor unless it explodes!

I don't have a good feeling about this series 900 Nvidia GPUs. I'll probably get on of these three:

Nvidia GTX 760 (4GB) or 770

Radeon R9 280 (3GB)

But I'm still unsure.

The 760 will  not bottleneck the 4790k

Yes it will. If you like using 4k texture mods for your game, like me...

Seriously, I should have added "kinda", because the GPU is the weak point. 2gb vram is low nowadays. Still a good card, though.

I would advise changing the motherboard to a z97 MB as only a few Manufacturers like ASUS have got bios updates for their z87 boards that allow them to run the 4690K/4790K

Can you guys help me? So for my birthday my mumsy is getting me an AlienWare X51, because I can't really commit to building a PC nor does she and I was wondering if it would run Dragon Age : Inquisition. I figure I'd pre-order the game so I can have it on deck before my pc gets here. From what I've seen its meant to act as a substitute for consoles and be able to play games on stretched out flatscreens I've seen my cousin play BF4 on his downstairs TV from the computer, and if I'm correct it runs on the same engine as DAI and it was moving at a smooth 60fps on Ultra. So am I wrong in assuming that if it can run BF4 it can also run DA:I? Sorry if noob question, I'm just starting to get into PC stuff.

No Alienware. Bad boy. BAD BOY!!!

If you absolutely don't want to try and assemble your own PC and want a pre-built PC, do NEVER ever go Alienware. Overpriced as ****!

Look up other retailers like CyberpowerPC, etc. and whatever you do, NEVER EVER go Alienware.

No, just no.

I think the Alienware would run Inquisition fine but if you want to run the next game in the series you might want to get a r9 270 which I hope is an option with the alienware computer.  I was looking at the alienwares and a I5 isn't that expensive with the r9 270.  1300 dollars somewhere that ways.  Did you look at the HP site for desktops?  I was looking at a high performance computer about the same price.

Well can you guys give me some recommendations on pre-built PC's that aren't AlienWare, that run just as good if not better. The AlienWare X51 I showed my mom was the $700 one, but if there are one's of equal quality and cheaper I most def bet she'd appreciate it lol.

I seriously doubt DAI will be more graphic-intensive than BF4. Even if it was, a GTX 760 would be able to run the game just fine on ultra settings. Why buy a GTX 970 for $110 more? You don't need 4gb of vram as that's overkill, and I seriously doubt any game this year or next is going to really push hardware that much further. Especially not an RPG. If you are looking at Battlefield 5 or Crysis 4? Maybe. Most other games? Not likely. It would make more sense to wait a year or so when the 900 series will be much cheaper and perhaps when you'll actually need and use it. Buying it right now would just be a waste of money honestly.

Hate IE, can't quote. TruffleMeister, this might sound strange but go to the Walmart website and checkout their Build your pc. You'll see the parts and what they cost. Build your machine there then go shopping at ibuypower,  cyberpower, newegg and other places to see what you can get there. Maybe a local shop will match the price. You got two months. There is no rush.

That's the PC that is the size of a console? Right? Really, this would come down to a matter of taste. If you want the X51 because of how small it is, you probably won't be able to do better than that. The issue with a rig such as that though is you don't really have the capacity to upgrade it, much like consoles. Once you buy it, you'd really just have to replace the entire rig if you were to upgrade. That being said, any quality gaming PC is generally going to cost you near or above $1000, especially if it's future-proof.

In the short term, the X51 would be cheaper. In the long term, however, having a custom-built PC would likely be cheaper, if you know the proper hardware pieces to install into it. Gaming PCs are also much larger though, as you'd likely want to go for either a medium size tower,or a full size tower, which honestly is overkill. Cyberpower and IBuyPower are two potential places to have custom PCs built for you if you want to go that route. But if you like the size, stay with the X51, even though it is Alienware...

I know you can run BF4 on that system  1920x1080 on high  with the i3 and that odd gtx 745  it has 4 gb of ddr3 for a Allienware you would be hard pressed to build system like that for 700 dollars your self  if you asking how i know i run  evga gtx z97 mobo i currently have the i3 4130 and i used to run a evga gt 740 4gb ddr3  card and i could run BF4 on high 1920x1080 now i got my self a gtx 780

Hopefully its not has high has the evil within requirements, otherwise will have to use some magic to get a new video card sooner rather then later.

Evil within has an 4 gb vram memory requirement min, basically, hopefully dragon age isn't the same

Shadow of Mordor requires 6gb of vram to play on ultra, The Evil Within (according to the developer) needs 4gb of vram. I'm not saying you're going to require it for most games, but it can't hurt if you have the cash.

Elaborate? for $320 you can get a GTX 970 that can be overclocked to surpass even stock GTX 780 Ti performance.

Interesting. The price and their total power will be essential for me to consider when buying a GPU (several months from now).

So no one suggests R9 280/280x/290?

As others have pointed out, you do need more than 2gb in a near future. 2gb is not future proof. And you definitely need more than 2gb vram if you want HD texture quality and be able to run smoothly. Personally I need a new CPU as well, not just a gtx 970. My i5 2500K (3.3ghz, although overclocked to 4.2ghz) is getting old and will be the new bottleneck.
