Eh. It's alright.

Worst comes to worst, I grit my teeth and bare it until my birthday, when I can ask my dad for help paying for a decent GPU and PSU.

Incidentally, can anyone suggest a good graphics card/PSU combo I could comfortably play newer games at higher settings on at 1080p?

I'll be adding a second R9 290onto my Asus Maximus VI Formula MB though I think it'll be a Asus DCUII model as the spacing will be a little to tight for my liking if I get a second PCS+ OC model( about 5mm of space between fans of top card and second PCI-E slot)  along with another 16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400mhz to my existing 16GB of the same. Also have a i5 4670K@4.4Ghz cooled by a Corsair H105 with quad Corsair SP120 PWM fans in push-pull all inside a NZXT Switch 810 Matt Black SE

Oh yeah, for your machine that PSU makes total sense, the overkill was more in reference to the one you were recommending it as an upgrade for. For that one, I'd say something Corsair in the 650-750 range is more than enough juice.

I've been able to run DA:Origins and DA:2 on high levels on my current machine, however I wasn't sure how it could handle Frostbite. I tested my machine against Battlefield 4's specs on canirunit.com. I'm pretty confident I won't be able to run DA:I to the level I want on my current machine, so I've started saving up for a new one.

Specs will come out before release, so I think you're fine waiting to preorder until then, if that is your preference.

I'll be getting my EVGA Supernova G2 1300W ordered on Friday Currently using a Corsair GS800 right now but It'd be better for Lilyas to go full modular rather then someting like my non modular GS800

8GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 645
Windows 8.1 64 bit

I use Game Debate for system reqs, I meet/exceed recommended except for gpu. Nervous my system won't run the game well. Considering buying an XBone (so son can use) to play the game. What do y'all think?

I'm going to have to buy a new PC soon anyway, and I definitely want my new one to be able to run DA:I. Unfortunately, I don't know much about computers so I'd appreciate somebody's help on this--do you think either a Lenovo G505s or Lenovo G505 would be able to run it? The 505s has AMD Radeon HD 8650G and the 505 has AMD Radeon HD 8330. I'm fully expecting to have to run it on really low settings and I'm fine with that as long as the fps is bareable.

I know, but a PC made specifically for gaming is hugely out of my price range. Basically I'm looking for something just good enough that the game will run at all, even if i have to play it on extremely low settings and am getting by with the skin of my teeth. Believe me, I'm used to playing things that look like they were made in Paint.

If you're budget-constrained, are you sure you should be looking at laptops?

I honestly I have no idea--I haven't used a desktop in over 5+ years since I recently finished college.

$700 is way out of my price range. Even the $380 a refurbished G505s would cost me is stretching it.

If anyone has any suggestions for something under $300--laptop of desktop--that I could buy fully built I'd appreciate it! Everyone here seems to know a lot more about computers then I do. I literally do not care how low I have to set the graphics--I'm just looking for something that will play DA:I well enough that my character doesn't look like they're running through mud. Really DA:I is the most graphics heavy thing I can ever see myself playing.

If your budget building normally better to have it custom made if you know someone who can build pcs or you have a tech shop that does it cheap and buy the parts seprate.

A couple of minor quibbles, the stats you listed for processor are only if you decide to go for an AMD processor.

With FrostBite one of the neat things is they have the technology for Mantle and its designed to help under powered processors offload onto the GPU.  They have used it with Battlefield 4 already, but I haven't heard of another game engine that works with it.

Bit late on this, but you're right. Generally statistics read however people want them to... But it's really all we have to ballpark it for now.

Mantle is in a lot of ways similar to the HUMA system the PS4 uses, except since the PS4 uses it's DDR5 for both system and graphics, it doesn't actually have to copy the data it's trying to offload to the GPU reducing the cycles.

Either way, offloading Processor functions to GPU is a great thing because the GPU's do brute force tasks like physics and AI really well.

Meh, 550W is more than enough for any single GPU build (well okay, if AMD keeps being energy inefficient, maybe a 650W might become necessary if you want to run their top CPU and top GPU model together).

Rather than spending precious money on getting more wattage than you'd ever need, invest some of that in getting a good lower wattage PSU.
