/sign.

I was hoping when I'd wake up today I'd go on a thread filled with joy after a f/f romance confirmation! Didn't happen... but was worth the hope.

Too many of the threads discussing gay and lesbian romaces become battlefields between people who want them and people who don't. I support this content, and realize that if that kind of atmosphere is continued, then the odds of us ever seeing this will decrease ever rapidly. A same sex DLC, if the option is not already in the game, would be a simple to make DLC that would please many fans. I hope that this thread is not closed down, I am not trying to make a spam thread or anything like that.

This thread is for the purpose of expressing support for such content, ways to impliment a DLC, ways to make it a great DLC, etc. This is not a discussion thread for whether or not we should have it. If you disagree with the notion of a same sex DLC, I ask that you do not post. If you must, create your own thread for it.

Please try to not be hositle or combative. Any constructive imput for this idea is welcomed. And most of all, please do not talk about each other. So, if you want to see this content in the game and have any thoughts on how to do it, why to do it, what you would want from it, who you would want to romance, etc. please feel free to post.

Be civil.

here is the thing. DLC has to be excitable for the MAJORITY and not a minority of people who will activley use or download it. i dont see them making a DLC for homosexual relationships even if this thread gets 1000 yes votes

There's an entertainment value to the multi-pile gay threads. One of the last has been closed and the mod referred to this thread to discuss the topic.
Though the entertainment value is great, it gets boring over time. I am glad to see this thread started off with a constructive note and I think your intent is honorable, OP.

On topic:
BioWare has shown in previous games (BG, DA) it is daring enough to work with a societal hot topic like gay sexuality by implementing it in an entertainment platform. Not as a crusade for gay rights, mind you, but simply as a 'normal' thing, and an acknowledgment that love and sex can transcend gender (Asari are an example as well in this.) It is one of the manymany reasons I love BioWare as a games developer.

Admitted, some of ME2 characters lend itself strongly to love interests without gender-limits in my opinion: Jacob, Thane, Subject Zero, maybe Miranda, Tali less so but possibly. I would have welcomed a similar open mind in ME2 as BioWare has shown in DA by giving the possibilty, but effectively it is BioWare's decision, and seeing the crowd ME2 is being marketed to for a large part (Football fans, more shooter-oriented gamers than RP'ers), I can deduct some of the reasons for their decision but will unlikely ever know them for a fact.

That said, and taking all of the above in mind, I would love to see DLC that offers the possibility for gay-sexual love interest(s). Not because I am gay (I'm not), not because 'BioWare has done it before, so they should do it again'. Not even because same-sex scenes turn me on.
I would enjoy it being offered simply because it challenges the standard, because it is one more reason BioWare can show it stands above the rest when it comes to storytelling in games by implementing what many still find 'taboo', and at the same time because in my personal opinion it can be considered normal and assumable in today's society and on top of that a progressive sci-fi game such as ME2.

TLDR?
Yes, I'd like to see DLC entertaining same-sex love interests.

Of all the posts in all the same-sex romance option threads, this is by far the most compelling.

Thank you

I grew attached to my Femshep character in ME1 and looked forward to experiencing ME2 with her - love the idea of importing the character and continuing. Cancelled my pre-order in protest at the removal of same-sex romance.

I support gay romance in media, but I don't enjoy it. Civil rights have come a far way. Homosexuals are freer than they have ever been here in north America. With more hard work and persistence they will soon be able to marry. I respect that freedom, but this community should also respect Biowares freedom to not put gay romance in their games. When you force these things on studios you are taking their freedom. That is oppression and it is exactly what we are fighting against.

They were "forced" into putting lizard and chicken leg romances into the game too. At the same time, they took out the f/f romance, thus putting FemShep back in the closet.

Looks like "force" is what Bioware responds best to.

I'm betting that you're all going to look very goofy a couple of days from now when you realize that the options are still there, and all the complaints, protests, and order cancels were caused by sheer mass hysteria.

Seriously people: wait for the game to come out before you decide what is or isn't there.

I will give this my support.

I am also a bit tired of the higher standard on video game ratings. The ESRB gives games a mature rating for doing less then what is seen every day on prime time television.

I support this.

But if nothing comes of it, they will HAVE to at least have F/F in ME3, just to keep the femshep/liara relationship going.

Unless Bioware does something very Bioware-like and kills off that relationship early somehow, dissapointing thousands again.

How is that Bioware like? Has Bioware done anything like that in the past?

I mean, you're upset, I get that. But lets keep the drama to a minimum. Or make another thread about it I guess. Five threads all complaining about the same thing on the front page would be some kinda hilarious.

I refer to the cutting of gay Ashley and Kaiden content in ME1. You know, how they recorded all the dialogue for it and then abandoned it? It's still in the game files.

Oh. Yea, that was kinda stupid.

But in the case of Liara they've already committed to the relationship. And since they've stated repeatedly that ME1 LIs are returning with a very large role in the third game, it looks like despite anything that happens in ME2 regarding same-sex romances, Liara will be a constant for F/F romancers.

I don't think they were forced. I think there was a huge, much larger than this, outcry, for "Talimance." If these threads continue and stay civil I am sure BW will consider it. I would hate for BW to feel that if they don't they will be branded homophobs.

Wow, you avatar is so beautiful. Good job on that one!

And yeah, if Tali+Garrus fans were thus agressive and finally got what they asked for, so can we.

Why wont people leave the decisions to Bioware... Simple. If they wanted gay relationships in the game it would have happen. Just like it did in Dragon Age. Nuff said.

The game was leaked a long time ago, and many websites are streaming it. Having set through an entire playthrough, I can say that there is no hysteria to be had here.

I also don't buy into the argument that Bioware only listened to outcry on this forum. I've hopped over to the Gamespot forums and some other places as well. There are TONS of people drooling over Tali and Garrus all over the internet. There is indeed a huge demand for this. I'm not saying that same sex should have been removed or anything, but I don't think the Tali/Garrus folks got their way just because of how loud they shouted. That was part of it certainly, but there was also genuinely a large demand.

Because there's no reason for it to not be an option. It's been stated that there was the chance for a homosexual relationship with the human LIs from ME1 but it was cut. They had obviously planned it and cut it at the last minute because of the existence of the files for that romance.

We're encouraged to make Sheperd our own character, so why are we being blocked from doing that? BioWare are famous for their willingness to push the boundaries and open mindedness, so just why is Mass Effect exempt from that? My FemShep should have the ability to go up to Miranda/Ashley/whoever and say "Hey, I want to snog your face off", and BioWare's segmentation of romances should then come into play with dialogue relating to either "not interested" or "not yet, let's see what happens".

I think what most people are annoyed about, by the sounds of it, is the focus on a straight ManShep and the sidelining of a gay/non-xenophilic FemShep, too.

Because they want to sell their products to US, so they better listen to what WE want. Apparently they listened to a bunch of people who for whatever reasons screamed on their forums about romances with strange Aliens, maybe they'll listen now too.

And yes, I support the purpose of this thread, among other reasons because my Shepards have no interest in romances with Aliens that are even stranger than the Asari. If these rumors turn out to be true, BioWare dropped the ball on this one. Maybe it was cut out of the fear of another round of unfair media attacks, or any other political correct reasons, but come on - do you really think gay or lesbian romances are "worse" than romances with some kind of non-human life form?
