Title is probably a lil' misleading, sorry lol
I've restarted Origins recently, and have been thinking. Since the Keep is taking over our imports (as far as I know, we CAN'T import at all), is there any point to play through the older games?
Originally I was going to get 8 DA:O and 8DA:2 characters, all imported along, to bring into DA:I. Now i'm thinking of just playing to get the achievements and then leaving it at that.
Anyone else having this train of thought? Or am I completely wrong and importing is still possible?
The Keep and Imports - Is there any point?

Well, the story of both games will be fresh in your head when you start Inquisition.

I believe they have said you can import your save games into the keep and it will save the decisions made.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's similar to the Mass Effect Genesis system. If you don't import, you can choose how major decisions in Origins and Dragon Age 2 were resolved, but all of the side quests would be assumed uncompleted.
Using Mass Effect as an example, a lot of NPC's you help in the first game return in Mass Effect 2. The conversations are nothing major, just a nice nod to those whom bothered to play through the first game, but if you're a completionist (Like me) then you'd have to play through the trilogy to experience everything there is to offer.
This is all just my assumption, of course. We could choose each and every little detail of what had previously happened in the Keep, but I just don't see that as likely. The former side quest NPC's would probably have no actual use in the newer game, and because a new player wouldn't have any knowledge of them in the first place, there would be no real loss.

Adding to the above, they didn't do it in DA2 but it could very well be that they decide to add starting bonuses for imported playthroughs that achieved certain things, such as starting with extra materials and money in ME2 if you got to a certain level in ME1.

Makes sense, since the whole purpose of the Keep seems to be adressing plataform and generation transition for the consoles. If not so, than I'm not sure how I'll manage since my DA: O and DA 2 are on a different account than my DA: I.

I remember reading about the Keep being an importing option but that the game would include a built in import feature as well...

You can manually create worldstate in the Keep from what I understand.

lol NOPE.
They said they would explore the import function. But since then they already said it's impossible to do even just to import information into the Keep. So unfortunately the only way to create world state is through the Keep. And that's it fellas.

Well that sucks.. how will the Keep work exactly?

The Keep is basically just a list over all the choices in previous games that can have some sort of impact in future installments. That means that all major decisions (fate of the Circle, Redcliffe and so on) and some of the sidequests. Some sidequest will probably not be represeted in the Keep, since they won't ever have any impact on the game.

My favourite thing about the Keep is I will never have to touch DA2 again.
I'd imagine it's just a check list of flags and you tick the boxes that apply.

Sure, there is a point: the games are fun, hahah
While the keep will make playing the previous games unnecessary if you just want to get a save import ready for inquisition, I personally like it better if I have actually played through each world state. It makes for better roleplaying if you think stuff like "so my Warden was this and acted like this, then my Hawke acted like this" and then act accordingly for Inquisition. But that's just how I play.

Has Bioware confirmed that saved games will not be able to imported anywhere, nor DAI nor the Keep? I thought it was still up in the air.

If nothing was said about the Keep at E3 then it is still up in the air. However, their previous comments about importing made it sound chances imports being in is rather slim.

I believe any newcomer to the series should play the older games because it gets you familiar with the world, characters, lore and conflicts. The Keep is cool but new players NEED to play the previous 2 games start to finish. They'll miss out on a lot if the don't and just jump into the DAI. This isn't TES where the previous game was hinted at lightly or barley. This is DA where you decisions matter! Game to game!

If there is no import to the keep then what is the point of it. Create the world state in the game directly.

For the record, I know you can replay the games for 'fun' value... After playing through Origins 100% at least 20 times, it's gotten to the stage where I just want to have my story imports sorted.
And me being me, even if imports end up being unavailable, i'll still play through DA:O and DA:2 6 times each, just to get my base characters made and finished. lol

The only question I have about the Keep is if it would take into consideration modded games. For example, in one playthrough I used a mod that allowed male Wardens to romance Alistair. Since it changed the parameters of the 'official' game I wasn't sure if the import file could corrupt the game if used. Likewise, if the Keep is a checklist of flags to create the game-world then that option may not be available.
Naturally if I got a Keep invite I would be able answer my own question...(hint, hint, hint, hint). ![]()

I'd like to know if you can chose a Warden who did the ultimate sacrifice, AND a Warden Commander, or if it'll act like the import, and just be the Warden, back from the dead lol

The way I picture the Keep, personally, is a much more in-depth version of Gibbed's old Origins save generator for DAII.
Just, with way more options, and internal rules to keep you from doing things like, say, checking that you killed the Elves AND the werewolves, or killed Loghain and Alistair.
I'd like to know if you can chose a Warden who did the ultimate sacrifice, AND a Warden Commander, or if it'll act like the import, and just be the Warden, back from the dead lol
This is important to me, too.
Or, can we have a Warden that LIVED, AND an Orlesian Warden-Commander, for, say, my Dalish Warden who wouldn't have given two shits about the Wardens after the Blight was over.

This too! Forgot about this. (Human-hating Dalish ftw!)
