A really bothersome part of DA2 was that gear didn't keep up with your power and was usually rendered moot after a few levels outside rare instances. Non-PC game owners can only look on with envy that PC game owners have a mod that made nearly all gear "evolving" and thus giving player more choices upon their wardrobe without severely gimping themselves.

Another issue with DA2, aside from strangers acting like I was their best pal even though it was the first time I met them in-game, is that enemies weren't set to their own strengths but were based upon yours.

I'm willing to give Bioware the benefit of the doubt as they know the reception that DA2, it didn't live up to Bioware's reputation of "Great" which is why many were disappointed at what was a "Decent" game, had and that this game has been in the works for awhile.

Mass Effect 3 is another matter, that whole fiasco killed that series for me but DA is a different matter as it's a different franchise and it would be wrong to lump them in with the ME3 situation.

well there can be another issue with DAI, for example by working with open and alive world they may neglect other aspects of the game.

I was liking your post until per typical you went on a hate rant for the previous 2 games

In Origins gear also didn't keep up with your power, but it was not a bad thing there. I really liked how you could actually get one of the best armor sets in the game even at the beginning if you were good enough (Juggernaut armor set), And the set stayed good and useful throught the game. In DA2 you basically had to change your equipment at the beggining of the new chapter, cause random items found in shops/looted from bandits were better than your powerful-previous-act set.

I much prefer the system from Origins, especially in open world.

If player manages to find a rare armor/sword/staff/anything it should stay useful for some time and not become obsolete after gaining 2 levels. The problem here is not that rare items are not leveling with your character, but that other, generic items do.

I'd actually like it if gear were less versatile and actually decayed over time.  The equivalent to having to replace your running shoes after a certain number of kilometres IRL.

How is this different from DA:O?

Gear scaling dynamically is a bad design when it is as good or even better than the rest static gear that the game has to offer. If you have the dlcs, it makes every other piece of gear obsolete. Only some specialized items like Desdemona's blade worth it and that's because of convenient elemental weaknesses. IMO they should include only static gear and make the crafting system relevant so you can upgrade your equipment whenever you feel like.

Im curious to how the crafting would go.

In Skyrim I crafted the best I could make, relics were far weak by time I started my first quest. I spent many hours working on equipment. Killing Aduin in two hits by time I reached him really wasnt that fun. :)

Scaling armor with level would avoid pretty much acquiring equipment in general.

The novelty of acquiring equipment would be the only reason and kinda lowers expectations a bit in my case.

Crafting, I'm waiting to see.

Gear has different looks and not all gear levels the same and some of the high end stuff will be better than other stuff. With leveling it means that High End gear isn't suddenly going to be worse than random drop trash gear after a few level ups. Since there's no way to set your characters armored appearance no matter what you wear having most, or all gear, level up with the player will give players more choices on how they want their character to look without taking severe penalties due to it being outdated.

That's your own problem, fact is that old scars don't heal. I assume you weren't here on the forums when DA2 and ME3 released and didn't meet the expectations that were expected of a Bioware title.
