I'm wondering why we were told gamepads would be supported and are now being told they will not...

Not sure where you heard it was supported because thats a lie. Bioware stated months and months ago Pads will not be supported on the PC.

Bioware/EA should learn from Valve. Left 4 Dead has 360 gamepad support and it's not even a 'Games for Windows' game. I think the PC version of ME2 would benefit from gamepad support. It would finally make the PC version as the ultimate version to play since it gives you the option and you could practically play it as if it were the 360 version.

Hey,

I can't speak for what you may have heard, but I can confirm that from the outset there were no plans to ever support a game pad for ME2 (PC). Whether that may change for ME3 (PC), I can't say.

Well I've decided to get it for 360 for the gamepad. It looks like it will play similar to gears of war. I have a fully capable PC so I may double dip and pick it up on Steam if it goes on sale for $5 like ME1 did. I just like Having the option of playing it with keyboard /mouse or a gamepad.

For some of you who's wondering how to enable gamepad for use with ME2 on a PC

*Tested on Logitech wireless rumblepad 2

*32bit/64 bit Windows 7, Vista, XP

*This is a workaround and not a fix

-Make sure you download the latest drivers from logitech for your gamepad

-Install the drivers (with administrative rights and you may have to restart your PC)

-Calibrate and customize your profile. You can find the key bindings (controls) in ME2 or the web

-Install ME2

-Start ME2 Launcher and customize your settings (ie Video, Import game saves..etc)

-Once you have customized your your game, launch ME2

-Write down or get a screenshot of the control configurations and you can use this to program your gamepad

-Once you have programmed your gamepad profile, quite/exit ME2

**ITS IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU CUSTOMIZE YOUR GAME AS THE WORKAROUND WILL BYPASS THE LAUNCHER!!**

-On your Desktop, goto "START"

-Select "COMPUTER"

-Navigate to this path C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Mass Effect 2\\Binaries"

**FOR 32bit users: C:\\Program Files\\Mass Effect 2\\Binaries

-Look for the mass effect 2 executable (MassEffect2.exe)

-Open the "Logitech" profiler and on the menu select "EDIT" then "PROPERTIES"

-Click on the BROWSE button and browse to the mass effect 2 executable and select "OPEN"

-Then, Give your Profile a name and select the ME2 icon on the bottom and select "OK"

-Back on the logitech profiler, select "PLAY MASS EFFECT" or whatever you named your game profile

*THATS IT, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PROGRAMMED YOUR GAMEPAD WITH THE KEY BINDINGS IN THE GAME

-Once you launch the game, it will skip the launcher screen and go to the intro

-On the main menu of the game, test your gamepad by moving the joysticks around.

**THIS HAS BEEN TESTED TO WORK ON WIN7, VISTA, XP WITH THE LOGITECH WIRELESS RUMBLEPAD 2

**IT SHOULD WORK ON THE USB WIRED VERSION AS WELL, IF NOT UPDATE YOUR DRIVERS.

You could have made a new thread instead of resurrecting a month old one. Hell, it probably would have even been stickied.

I found the .ini file to make the 360 controller work.  HERE

It's not perfect- the 'shift' menus don't work VERY WELL- you have to tinker with it.

So really, BIOWARE's decision not to inlcude 360 controller support has worsened my gameplay.  It's difficult for me to use my AMMO powerups and the like.

To Bad- I know there's a money reason to this RETARTED oversight.

Hell Yes 360 support would finish off this game -

To think there would even be some "gamepad support" PR release!

Does BIOWARE think we are FOOLISH? They have already developed gamepad support when they ported the 360 game! And the 360 controller is one of the finest gamepads in the biz!

BIOWARE - c'mon and fess up to the simple reason there is no 360 controller support for the PC version!!! MONEY!

BIOWARE - Leaving PC gamers in the dust since KTOR!

If they never intended gamepad support, I wonder why they did the keyboard/mouse inputs so badly; I would think that the ability to focus on one input method would allow it to be perfect.

Then again, this is exactly what BS2 claimed to do, and their mouse/keyboard interface was just bad. Maybe I'm just expecting too much.

Maybe you're just bad?  I have had no issues with mouse/keyboard at all.

No issues? There aren't any shortcut keys to journal/character/inventory; you can't even assign run/use/cover to different buttons. These are standard options for a PC game.

Clearly the UI was badly designed for a keyboard, instead being based on gamepad limitations.

I use a little program called JoyToKey which lets me map keyboard and mouse movements to a directx gamepad. Similar to the previously mentioned logitech program except it works with all standard PC gamepads (assuming the logitech software is proprietary).
It even lets you adjust the sensitivity of the mouse to your analog stick for true analog control on the right stick. Unfortunately I don't know how to make the analog work on the left stick since movement (WASD) isn't analog on PC.

Edit cause I wrote joy2key, it's actually joytokey.

hmmm, it sucks you have to hack and slash your software to get it to work with your hardware!

Wake up BIOWARE!

Gamepad support was purposely left out to appease MS VP's. Show some nuts BIOWARE!

I agree that gaming companies should cater to a broader hardware besides "the ol mouse and keyboard". Unfortunately logitech hardware and software is proprietary and only works for its own brand. Fortunately, there are ways to get around that. Just use google and you will find several utilities that will map keyboard keys to gamepads. Since i do have logitech hardware, i can say that the controls are as fluid as they come (with sensitivity tweaking). The software itself allows you to take the default keyboard bindings in ME2 and assign them to the gamepad.
