The things that keep my mic off are:
1) Listenin' to music. If I find one song, I'm gone to the world.
2) Nobody else is usin' one. Don't wanna "scare" 'em off by talkin'; it has happened to me.
3) I don't wanna talk. My friends'll tell ya that's a lie/"impossibru", but they're just a-holes
4) I'm just angry at somethin'. Some people yell, I hunt for something to annihilate.

What makes me plug my mic in:
1) Friends. I enjoy tortuing 'em!
2) Fun. I tend to have monologues about things that you'd never think mattered 'till I spoke on it. That and my friends are right; I enjoy flappin' my gums.
3) Someone sounds like they need help. Damsels, brosels, whatever. I can't let someone "die"... Unless I was the one killin' 'em. Then I just smile to myself like Dr. Cox.
4) Just tryin' to defeat the stereotype we're all a bunch o' angry-" mutes", who b__ch to ourselves. Be the change, 'ey?

So, what does it for y'all?

If I hear people talking, I plug it in. If they don't sound like a complete imbecile, I'll talk to them. Otherwise I keep it off.

I turn off voice chat completely when i'm pugging...too many idiots giving out orders or "advice". I really only have it on with friends, but even then I rarely speak. I prefer having music playing in the bg.

Sometimes I play when everybody else in the house are sleeping. Mic's off at those games. Otherwise i usually have the mic on being on a party with friends or talking to other random players in game.

If everybody else is silent, there is usually no need to disturb with my sighs/rants/laughs about lag, Space magic, other players and my own lack in skill in general lol.

A revive will mostly get a 'thanks' and if I've bled out and I'm watching someone play I'll give out 'nice kills' and a 'well played' if we make it the end of the wave.
I'll mostly give out a running commentary and laugh at my stupid deaths for first couple of rounds and I'll shut up if nobody else chips in.
If someone else is on Mic I'll usually converse.
If one of my daughters is in the same room they WILL laugh at me bc they're mean!

I normally have my mic off and put myself in a party chat cause I don't like hearing pugs cause I always run into the idiots or the ones who try to troll and fail miserably. I'll only put the mic on if no one is helping with a hack or putting a poor excuse for 'drawing aggro' away from the hack circle when **** goes by faster when everyone is in the circle. If they're doing a quick run around, to pull them off of it, then I'm ok with it cause they're coming back within a few seconds. The ones who are glory hounds for no reason and hampering the objective, I will go on the mic to get their butts in gear unless they don't want their credits.

Sensible approach.

You deny them the trollops?! WENCH!

50/fifty almost blew my mind for a sec. I see ya, tho'.

I've heard they way you respond to some QM-players. They should be glad. But then again, they're actually missin' out. I've never heard someone so angry, yet sound completely relaxed. As if anger was a fallacy only bumbs could precieve llooll.

I can def. agree wit' that.

Very chill. And you should be proud of your children! lmao!

Once again, us in the Silver-Nation are frowned upon/not worth somethin' llooll.

You must be quite the thug! I just let 'em die and keep winnin'. I don't mind earnin'people some free credits; I figure I'm the answer to their many needless sacrifices/RNG prayers.

On with friends, off with randoms.

Simple, yet effective.

@A3, I'm normally quiet, but if something gets me riled up, I'm not gonna keep quiet about it. I've already done that enough times throughout my life.

S__t, I feel ya on that! Some times to hold the line, you gotta step across the line, and knock any sum-b__ch out, who tried to cross yo' line! All in all, I respect the approach. Keep thuggin'!

I only ever switch it on if friends are intent on talking, and I'll stay quiet if it's a large party. If I land in a lobby with talkimg PUGs, I'll start my own party. I don't need to hear that ****.

I guess I'm anti-social that way.

^This. 95% of my games are pugs, so I'm usually quiet and so are the games.

I'll mic up if I see someone I know and their mic is on or if someone is asking me questions about builds, gameplay, etc. and I can help.

I don't mute other players/pugs though or start my own party, sometimes the random banter can be rather entertaining. Especially the one player who is the only one talking throughout the match - running commentary from them can often be funny :)

On with friends, unless I'm listening to music ( I tend to sing) pugs with mics is so so, generally will listen to them for a bit and mute if they are the usual annoying scrub.

S__t, I sing the hell outta things! I even got Clyde to sing one of my "kneegrow (I had no idea that's a no-no word) spirituals"! And wit' Tantum, it can become a full-on 80's music concert! Thus, I'm sure I end up in the latter part of yo' quote. It's cool. I use the tears for my hate-tea.

Laziness makes me keep it off

I've turned it on before when people were asking about alt banners

I've also rage turned it on once during an objective wave that was going particularly bad

Only turn it on with friends, especially for speedruns. When I do pug, I sometimes make an exception. If people sound jnteresting, I will turn it on. Because I have a headset with the mic attached to it, I tend to keep it off when it's a little too warm to use that thing. Right now, it's freaking hot - so I'm not using my headset if I do decide to play. Now that the World Cup is underway, I keep my tv on in the background for some matches; mind you, I'm not playing ME3 when my country plays, because I like to go out with friends and watch it with a few beers included. So I like to follow the less-important matches, too, so I won't use my headset then even when friends are online.
