I think he meant the in-game voip. I don't know how it is on consoles, but on PC It's influenced pretty heavily by lag and has a nasty tendency to randomly break up mid sentence. For me it's more of an annoyance but for some it's game breaking.

I really didn't think there was in-game VOIP. On Xbox360 and WiiU, the game voice chat is carried by the platform's VOIP, and on PC the voice chat is via Origin's voice chat function. (I don't know how the PS3 version does it.) Or have I completely misunderstood something?

Also, I have played a fair bit on all three of those platforms and never found random breakup to be a sound problem. Usually it's others getting feedback through the microphone that causes me problems. Not saying it doesn't happen, but it's clearly not a uniform part of the experience.

Origin doesn't have a voice chat function, the voip is built into the game.

Truth be told I usually only play a game or two at the end of the day.  I'm usually tired from work and just not in the mood to talk.

Mic is always on. Why turn it off? If you don't want to talk then don't.

My friends group uses Teamspeak. For me it works a lot better, as ME's voice chat is choppy and tends to cut off what I'm saying. Also, we can talk about pugs (good or bad) among ourselves. It makes me wonder when I go into a random game with 3 good players who aren't talking, if I am their pug.

If I hear people talking, I plug it in. If they don't sound like a complete imbecile, I'll talk to them. Otherwise I keep it off.

This.

At times I have the mic off because there is way too much action at my house.

Is it weird that I'm sort of uncomfortable conversing with randoms on the microphone?

I'm generally pretty comfortable in face to face social situations but talking to a random person over the mic is kind of weird for me.

No, it's not. I tend to avoid doing it, unless said PUG talks tactical.

Exception: Whispering "Tech Armor" into the mic after blowing it up.  One must ALWAYS whisper "Tech Armor".

I favour either 'BEHIND YOU!' or (In a whisper) 'I'm watching you'

I always have my mic on but it's muted 90% of the time. It's a privilege to hear my dull voice and only 3 friends get to enjoy that privilege.

I have a mic, I pretty much only use it to warn someone though. "Phantom on your six!" Type of thing. I am hard of hearing so understanding someone is a roll of the dice. If someone speaks and does not sound like they have a whole hamburger in their mouth, (everyone really) otherwise I will converse. :)

I usually play at night when everyone's asleep, so I don't use a mic much. Who needs to talk when Reks is spouting 100% gold dust every wave?

What good is destroying an opponent if
they can't comprehend your greatness?!

And we definitely gotta get some games in. Team Gargantuan Grenades (Kro. Sent. & Kro. Sol.) needs to happen!

Usually I only use a mic when I'm playing with friends.  There has been some rare instances where I mic'd up when playing with strangers.  I've been in rooms where the rest of the team is talking and working together.  They were calling out enemies for me.  When I see that happening, I'll usually get my headset to help out in return.

Then.. everyone hears dat voice and pitches a tent. I swear, you could be a radio DJ for some station that plays sexy love songs. That deep, throaty Feelgood voice through a bass heavy system would have the ladies soaking their car seats.

I used to write erotica in high school. I was way better at it then.. maybe bc I cared.

However.. listening to Dr.Feelgood on the mic is like.. better than phone seckz.. if you're a grill.
