No, certain deaths can not be prevented. Otherwise they would not be certain...
I joke, I joke, I know what you meant. For the specific example of the demo, even if Sera did actually die in it, I'm sure it could easily be avoided just by way of having a different party member. Sure seemed to me that Dorian and Leliana were the only ones that seemed like they might actually be scripted to be there, and from the people who watched the demo at the event it seems as if it was mentioned that even that was not the case.
So yes, just as in previous games, I think many companions will have a moment where they COULD potentially die, but not necessarily have to.
Which demo are we talking about here?

Sometimes the zenith of a character arc is that character's death. I'm not really sure if all characters should be saveable. It worked in ME2, but the loyalty missions monopolized the main quest arc of the game, so I am not sure if it is worth trying to run errands for every member of your party.

It's ok guys, we all are going to day some day. No big deal. Also Sera dies before the romance is completed. In the ending you build a shrine to her memory if you haven't romanced any other in the mean time.
If she does die, I'll be more pissed that they spoiled such a big moment 4 months before release ![]()
Well I guess this is the thread that is going to send me away until October 7. What a spoiler that was. Even if it's not a legitimate death, the suspense of the scene is basically ruined now.
/sigh
Fixed.

How did I miss that part? Back to rewatch.....

Same... I didn't see Sera die at all.......
You're implying I said she doesn't die. I said you would have context, that's it.
(And, no, it's not the Fade.)
Oh noes. Never mind then, lol.

the more i think of this the more i think Death should not be avoidable, if through your choices and actions (and hopefully there so many u never know) it means ppl an even companions/advisors will die as a consequence of them, then so be it.
Im one for making my choices in game and sticking with them, im also one for roleplaying all types of characters, so in saying that im hoping the consequences of actions an this sort of thing happening are not just restricted to say playing a "dick" character, even the best an good intentions must have consequences.
I also believe though ppl should be given a chance even a slim one of being able to save whoever the intended is

My reaction to the Sera clip was very that that was one very dead elf. Interesting if companion deaths can happen in certain quests based on inquisitors choices.

Oh god, that would be fantastic and horrible at the same time. I am so torn, this would make the game so much more dramatic but I don't want Iron Bull and Varric my companions to die oh goddddd.
Why are people surprised, they always kill off the gay characters.
Who exactly have they killed off that is gay?

STEEEVE!! And on some video i think it was Mark Darrah or Mike Laidlaw, I think it was in IGN demo interview they said it possible to finish game with only one companion.
Be ultimate douche.

Hey no one forced you to kill Anders. He is my bro BFF,we blow chantry's and stuff and FREEEDOM!
Well we don't know the context of the scene & Sera's likely an optional companion for that quest. So if its possible for a character to die at that(based on some bad choice by inquisitor) it could be any companion.
I believe many critical missions will be ala suicide mission in mass effect 2. If you chose an archer to do a warriors job, then they die. Sera is also described as reckless, possibly not the best person to take in that situation perhaps. As someone said before, perhaps a warrior and mage, or two warriors would fit that situation better.
Missions like Suicide Mission are very much appreciated!

BSN: OMG! SHE'S DEAD!!!
Gaider: The young elf dead may not be.
BSN: HALLELUJAH! SHE'S ALIVE!!
Gaider: Ah, young padawans. Alive the young elf may not be.
