Looool. Did he just brag about being able to afford all the consoles?
Don't deliberately misunderstand. I live in the first world, as do you. Each console costs the same as taking a few friends out for a good dinner. That is, next to nothing. I'd buy any gaming device that ran a game I really liked and wanted to play, which is what most people do. Loads of people on here run multiple platforms as a result.
The crazy thing is I seem to remember seeing the WiiU sales figures for ME3 being in the 6 figure range. At least a decent portion of 100,000+ had to play MP right?
As I've said upthread, Biovar sold over 300k copies of ME3 for the WiiU. They still are selling it.
Marksmad quit being a dickbag
OK, sure. Can you ask the rest of the crowd to live by the same rule?
I'm pretty sure I remember reading that Nintendo reported a net loss last year or the year before.. so that would seem like they are in fact, grasping for cash. ...and please, tell me about all these awesome triple-A games that I'm missing out on by not owning a WiiU or a 3DS.
The saddest part about the Wii (which I own one of) is that the best game that was ever released for it came with the system.. Wii Sports. It's a great idea.. but I don't feel the technology was ever maximized by developers.. and ultimately, the best system isn't the one with the best CPU/graphics.. it's the one with the best list of games. This is why Nintendo is currently a fail.. no great games. When was the last time you saw a commercial for a Nintendo game and said "I HAVE to have that!" I can't even remember one.. maybe Donkey Kong for the SNES.
Beast, I don't say that you're missing out on anything. I'm just saying that if you own a WiiU, you'll find it quite a pleasant system, which will also play all your Wii games - backward compatibility, gasp! Wonder why Sony and MS can't manage that?
You can also get a lot of the old Nintendo classics for SNES and GameCube as downloads to play via the virtual system.
Just because one person doesn't see a reason to own something doesn't make someone else a moron for deciding to buy it.
According to reports, Nintendo has enough cash on hand to run at a deficit for 30+ years. That's most likely part of the issue - there's no real burning need to switch your business model because you can absorb the losses if it fails.
I've got a Wii U, mainly because I have kids and I also am a huge Zelda fan. It's not a bad system by any means, it's just not living up to it's potential.
Yes, Nintendo is cash rich and can absorb the odd loss for a while. They have a long term view of the business.
Thank you for mentioning kids. I thought it was obvious that some people might have kids who want to play Mario and Zelda games, but I was mistaken.
It can't be easy to develop games for a Nintendo system compared to Sony, Xbox and PC. If it's not going to be quite profitable, studios will shy away and produce other sure things. A system is nothing but a useless piece of plastic without stellar developer support.
Of course it's useless with no games, but a fair chunk of the AAA games are making it onto the platform anyway. The Nintendo dev kit is not that hard to use and once you've built for all the other major - and incompatible - platforms, it isn't that hard to build for WiiU. Some companies are specialising in doing ports, for example Straight Right did the ME3 port for Biovar.
