How do I stop Jaheira and Khalid from complaining?

After the Nashkel mines, I ran around doing subquests fro quite awhile before heading on to Cloakwood.  At some point, J and K started saying things like, "I don't like the way this group is turning out. Better leadership might help." and "Why did we just do that?" I don't want to lose them.  I thought doing the Cloakwood quest and heading on into Baldur's Gate might stop it, but it's still going on.  Is there anything I can do within the game to fix this morale problem?  I have NearInfinity and am fairly adept at making changes...is there some feature or characteristic I can modify to make them okay again?  I don't remember having this problem the first time I ran through the game.

Jaheira is of neutral alignment so she will complain if your reputation is high or low enough. But at the same time she will not leave the party even if your rep is 20 unlike say Viconia (or any other evil NPC) who will leave as soon as your rep hit 19.

There are some mods (BG2 Tweaks) which have a *Happy patch* component which might shut down that behavior if you like:

//

Happy Patch
This component disables NPCs complaining about the party's reputation. For example, evil characters will no longer be unhappy in a high reputation party. This component will also disable the BioWareNPCs from fighting with one another: in Baldur's Gate, Kivan/Viconia, Tiax/Quayle, etc. and Keldorn/Edwin, Valygar/Viconia, etc. in Baldur's Gate II. This component is completely compatible with the Neutral Characters Make Happy Comments at Mid-Range Reputation component.

You could also do what I do. There are some civilians in the Beregost Temple area - I kill the drunk, which lowers my reputation, and lo and behold, Jaheira stops complaining..but Serg is right, she might complain all game but she won't leave.

EDIT:
Khalid only says "why did we just do that" if your reputation is too low. In that case you DON'T want to kill the drunk, as they could leave. Instead a few donations to any Temple will raise your reputation out of the danger range.

Bottom Line Up Front (In the military we call that BLUF):  Your rep is too low.

It's all about rep w/just about any NPCs.  Jaheira is TN to start & I think I recall Khalid as NG. I usually change Jaheira to NG in BGII after she has served w/one of my Palaadin types & his goodness has worn off on her.  But I digress.

They're complaining about your rep.  They won't complain if it's good or even, probably 9-12, average.  I've heard Khalid say, ""Why did we just do that" after I made a donation to a temple & thought that was a little off.

Right now I'm playing & Anti-Paladin, so evil he is a Fallen Anti-Paladin.  Viconia says things like, "Shar looks w/favor on us" and Shar-Teel something like, "This party not as bad as I thought" (my PC & ST have been in a romance most of the game though).  Anyway, I also have Safana & my PC, the bum that he is, would like to seduce her too so I've had to try to carefully move my rep up from the 5-7 range (disliked) to 9 (average), otherwise she continues to say, "This party needs new leaderhsip..."  My PC is smart enough to know he's not slippin' into her hotel room when she's sayin stuff like that.

Don't know why I got on a roll like that.  I'll shut up now.

Yeah, the NPCs do not notice from which "direction" the rep has changed. For example, Good characters just go "OK, rep changed, and it's now less than 8" (or is it 10?, I don't remember) => complain. They don't care if you just bribed the rep up from 5 to 8 (with three temple donations) or you killed someone which caused your rep to drop from 13 to 8. They just noticed it has changed, and it's now 8.
