So, if Sera is lesbian.. that means there's a homosexual male too, right?

All of them.

Varric's a homosexual male. Cullen's a homosexual male. Even Cassandra's a homosexual male.

...Wait.

Now that's what I call a party.

So how about that Sera?  I heard she likes the ladies!

So....... are we getting a gay dude too?  One of the things that I was saying was that people seemed to think that the "variety of sexualities" thing meant an even split (hence the 2/2/2 and 2/4/2 theories).  I always pointed out that technically there could be a 1/3/1 or 1/4/1 split and still have the same representation.  So right now, it looks like:

Cass - unknown sexuality (assumed straight or bisexual by some)

Cullen - unknown sexuality (assumed straight or bisexual by some)

Sera - lesbian (confirmed)

Iron Bull - bisexual (speculated based on character profile); possible race-gated from elves and/or dwarves

I wonder if it will look something like this:

Cass - straight

Vivienne or Scribe Girl - bisexual

Sera - lesbian

Cullen - bisexual

Dorian - bisexual

Iron Bull - bisexual (no elves and/or dwarves)

Technically, this kind of arrangement could still satisfy all that we know:  everyone gets options; there are straight, gay, and bisexual LI's; and there is race gating.

Do you think it will be more complicated that this?  Thoughts?  Also, NOTE:  I'm not saying I want this.  Just that it's possible.  I'd much prefer a gay male companion.  We've never had one before.  As excited as I am for Sera and the fact that lesbians are getting more representation, I don't want to forget that we've never had a gay male companion before (don't forget about Juhani!).  ;)

Sera could fill the requirement for "gay" characters all on her own. All the dudes could very easily be bisexual or straight.

And frankly, I wouldn't put it past BioWare to do that, either.

My grandmother was very intent that I was to grow up ladylike. She taught me to curtsey, to identify seventeen different types of cutlery and silverware and to arrange flowers, amongst other things. Unfortunately for her, I grew up liking heavy metal, motorbikes, and inappropriate humour, but the finger thing stuck

Etiquette is a useful thing to know, even if only for special occasions. I've been thankful for the things she taught me a couple of times, but I'm never going to be a 'girly girl'

Yeah, that first bit is what I meant by "more warrior than lady". I, myself have decent manners, I'll hold the door for people at the convenience store, or restaurants, even if some of them would rather I just moved on because they think I'm "scary" looking, but that doesn't offend me, it cracks me up to see the surprise on their faces when I politely stand to the side and hold the door for 'em. It surprised one of my other gfs when I stood there and waited for this little old lady to cross the parking lot to open the door for her. I just told her, if I didn't do that, my mom would whack me with a cast iron skillet. :P

I had decided to stay out of this thread because it has derailed so far but I do just have to say- what on Earth makes you think women with strong features have to have the personalities to match? Looks and personalities do NOT need to be synonymous. I'm not sure how anyone is entitled to decide that these women do not need either support or representation based on knowing a couple of examples of these women.

And what on Earth makes you think that I think that. I said the word "some" to indicate that in fact some of can have personalities to match. You took it the other way around. If you actually came back on this to tell me that I can't decide who needs support then I can happily tell you that you don't need to keep posting.

The reason I said this about making them look weak is because there are many people that actually said this thing. They capitalize on this because it creates sympathy so they can make an emotional argument. I won't stand for it.

I tried to do what? Just because you decided to enter the discussion to quote one small thing that irked you means that I'm trying to put myself above the others? Seriously get a clue.

Anyway since it's not as you say relevant to the thread title, just don't bother. I don't need someone that won't step with both feet into this discussion and try to shortcut the important things by giving too much meaning on the irrelevant parts.

I stressed many times that it's important to argue about the behavior. It's not important to count how many times one called the other a misogynist. Perhaps it's not the best thread to do it. But it happened on this thread because something prompted it on this thread. It was someone that said "it's sad that straight people have these kind of opinions. If you think this is not the place or the time just ignore me.

What are you even talking about?  <_<

"Also what I do is different because I don't make it us vs them like most people here do. I don't claim that god is on my side when I bash opinions."

You basically claimed your arguments were better than your opponents because you were less us vs them. I pointed out that you do generalise people allot which in my opinion is kind of and us vs them.

Also you ignored one of my entire responses and decided to respond to one sentence instead so can we not?

I'm not trying to shortcut anything. I just don't think your attacks on people in this thread is really that much about people in this thread. You are just as free to ignore me btw.

It is important if you are going to say that is what people are saying.

Possibly but I can't see Bioware passing up this opportunity to give their gay male fanbase a character of their very own, and I'll be very disappointed if they don't take the bull by the horns (takes on a different meaning with IB as a companion, whoops!) and run with it. I can see them potentially revealing him at GaymerX though :)

Um, I wouldn't always call being offended a choice, It's an emotional reaction. Sometimes you can choose to ignore that reaction but that does not mean you should.

I have already explained how these comments can easily be interpreted this way. Your "it's all her fault" argument is really nothing more than that. You are ignoring how language works and how cause and effect works.

Or we could have a discussion about it, rather than getting the mods involved? We could all explain to each other how things make us feel ect ect blah blah.

Nobody (as far as I know) said anyone can't say that. Stop straw-manning people it's getting tiring, criticizsng an opinion IS NOT censorship. Yes if you don't want to upset people then try to express things differently and if you do want to upset people then why are you worth defending? Anyway, advising someone to cencor themselves is not censorship it's just advise, that can be ignored.

The very first post that drew me into this part of discussion did exactly that, told him he shouldn't say that. Yes, it is an attempt at censorship. They want him to refrain from posting his honest opinion in order to preserve other people's feelings.

That might actually be what they intend to do, and it would be a masterstroke, as far as I'm concerned. Plus, they'll get more popcorn sales if it's Cullen. :P /hide

I am thinking it might look like:

Cassandra - straight

Vivienne - bisexual

Scribbles - bisexual

Sera - lesbian

Cullen - straight

Dorian - gay

Solas - bisexual

Iron Bull - bisexual and race restricted

I'm pretty confident atm that Blackwall isn't romanceable, no real reason just what I am thinking, but I do think Solas will be a romance option, also I am thinking that both Vivienne and Scribbles will be romanceable. That may be too many romances, but that is what I am thinking.

But to more directly answer the OP, in my opinion there will definitely be a homosexual male romance, and I think it will be Dorian.

I can see it, sadly. I mean, for all their talk, their track record is not stellar. DA2 is the only game they've ever made that featured anything approaching equality.

I would like to have faith, I really would. But then I'd have to change my name.

Oh YEAH!  I totally forgot that GaymerX is happening before release!  Char!  You just made my day.  I agree that they will probably reveal something about the s/s romances and/or characters there.  It's the perfect audience for it.  I suspect we'll get a more in depth Sera reveal, possibly details about IB or another non-straight male, and maybe even s/s options.  Yay!  That's less than a month away!

It's nicer not to offend people especially when there is no good reason to. You can express your opinion is less offensive ways and for the most part that is all anyone here is saying.

It's looking really likely that Dorian's the homosexual male. Not exactly who I had in mind to romance in game since I think he looks like a brick in some unfortunate screenshots, but I need to see more and I could make this work. I could dig the moustache, and if he's written with a funny and endearing personality to boot, I'm sold.

And like the guys a few posts before said, they'll probably reveal the gay male character at GaymerX.

Although, I'm fine if it turns out to be Solas or (oh dear) Cullen, but those two have more of a chance of being bisexual characters than homosexual.

Has anyone ever been to GaymerX?  I really want to go but it's on the wrong coast and I don't want to go bad enough to fly there.  I know that Bioware did discussions about sexuality in their games last year.  Do you think it's the kind of convention where they might do a more game-specific discussion with reveals?  Or is it more general, like "Representation of non-straight characters in fantasy game"?

Well, I've been to a gay convention, but it wasn't about video games.

And it was in a basement.

I don't find that I've posted anything offensive in this dialog chain. In fact, I don't even share that poster in question's opinion of Cass. I just don't feel like it's my place to demand/suggest/advise that he clean it up. If, as you postulated, it was truly offensive, then the moderators should be consulted, that is their job, to define what is and what isn't acceptable behavior here. The problem with "self-policing" is, as we can see, differing opinions about what is acceptable, and why. Not to mention people that will jump in with a one off to get to throw the accusation of misogyny around, such as this post.

I haven't been to one, but having seen the videos from last year I think they'll do something similar- some kind of talk involving romance mechanics and inclusion, followed by questions, hopefully with some reveals in the mix :) either way should be interesting :)

I want to go to GaymerX so bad, considering that this is the last one until further notice.

But I live all the way from Australia and the air fares and accommodation are too much for my puny uni-student budget to handle.
