Just a fun question for anyone who may know & sorry if it's a repeat someone else posted.

Will ME:X support VR Helmets such as the Occulas Rift, either out of the gate or via a major patch down the road?

I know this would be a Niche market but if it catches on it could be a very cool feature to support.

Also yes I know these devices are still in active development, but they should be released to the general public within the next few years *fingers crossed*

I hope so because it would be pretty cool. But it would probably need to be compatible with consoles before any real 3rd party support and development happens.

As Oculus has stated before, they don't plan on supporting consoles very well, and considering ME has usually been more geared towards consoles, I can't imagine that EA would take the time to implement a feature that would work on only one of the three platforms ME4 is releasing on (especially the one EA cares the least for). Then of course, there's Morpheus which could potentially be supported but again, I doubt EA would waste resources on a feature which would only be on one console.

Even if EA could easily implement VR support, I don't see how VR would make ME4 that much better. Oculus works best when used in first person games, where you're seeing through the player character's eyes. In a third person game like ME4 VR would only disconnect you further from your character, making you feel like some weird guy floating around your character.

Don't VR headsets not work very well with third person games?

Well, it would not be hard to implement 3rd person and first person view, like in fallouts and elderscroll games.

Actually, yes it would. On top of creating new animations for the player, Bioware would need to re-work the entire cover system (essentially get rid of it) because first person cover shooters aren't very fun.

There's a reason Fallout and Skyrim aren't (or at least should't be) lauded for their gameplay or level design. It's because they have to accommodate both perspectives, and they just can't make either one feel very fun.

But even if Bioware could easily implement a first person view, adding Oculus support isn't a walk in the park either. It takes effort and a lot of fine tuning just to make  players not feel queasy. There's no easy way to just patch in support later.

True there are tons of technical hurdles to overcome, but the VR Headsets are getting more and more popular as time goes by, ZeniMax, Oculus & Sony's project Morpheus are just some of the items jumping into VR land.

True none of them are market ready yet, but the day is fast approaching that they will be.

I don't doubt the merit and popularity of VR, but just because it's cool doesn't mean Bioware should use it. VR simply isn't for everything, especially 3rd person cover shooters.

OR is dead anyway, so why bother?
