The biggest problem I think is that pirates get the game earlier. I think that might drive many people to pirate the game that would otherwise buy it.

There is a solution to this, but many people wouldn't like it, especially brick and mortar stores.

Release the digital versions first. Ship out the game to retailers just 1 or 2 days before it's released on the internet, so that stores will have it only a few days after, but there won't be retailers breaking street dates or employees taking home a copy to upload.

You could always release the game for free, and charge for extra content instead.
That usually makes more money.

With all due respect, it wasn't a mistake.  Yeah, people will pirate the game.  People pirate almost everything, that's inevitable.  However they're still going to make a lot of money from the many people, like me, who legitmately buy the game.

But what if it was released free?
Ive never heard of a "quality" single player game released for free.

Yeah, because people can't pirate for the console =]

PS3 is very difficult to pirate, but 360 and Wii are SUPER easy to pirate.

they CERTINELY dont deserve it at all!

So the actions of a few should mean punishment for millions?

Most of those pirates will eventually buy the game (I know I have with the original ME. There is such a thing as 'redemption'. Thank Bioware for the steam release, otherwise I would never have gotten it). And for every guy who downloads it, thousands will buy it.

Piracy has been here since the dawn of cmputer gaming, and it hasn't affected any sales at all.

besides majority of hardcore PC gamer spend ridiculous amounts of money on maintaining their systems so that they can push the boundaries of gaming technology. Games like Crysis prove this, you can't run games like that on an x-box (sorry fan boys but technical hardware wise you can't fake that **** with bloom on everything *cough*gears of war 2*cough*. Innovations like "online multiplayer" and "first person shooters" all started on the PC without bench mark games like Unreal Tournament, and Doom, even the Sims gaming would seriously suck... There have always been pirates, can't do anything about it. But YOU can go BUY the game.

double post, pirates make me sick

WTF?

Do you have any examples of that "making more money"?

Halo 3 had 170 million in sales on the first day, Modern Warfare 2 had 300 million on the first day, I'm sure those games would have made much more money if they were free,

More like expensive with those BluRay discs. I know someone who wasted like 10 dvd's just to get a working game for his pirated 360. Now imagine doing that with BluRay.

Don't hold your breath, they're still making a metric ton of money by selling it on the PC.

And don't think that console users are somehow magically more law-abiding and... paragonish. Because they really aren't. If it was as easy to pirate Xbox games as it is with PC games, and if console users were more familiar with pirating tools on the PC, you can be sure that the numbers would be comparable.

well while most of the 'pirates' might be cheap bastards, i do believe some of them are taking advantage of the 'leak' to try the game out before they get their order or simply because the leak was allowed to happen and others might not afford to buy the game now or ever for that matter.

still i would like to believe the number of people 'stealing' the game are less and less as the years go by and economic conditions are less straining.

So please don't hate all pc gamers for the morons and the poor...it's how racism was born.

You would be surprised if you knew how many pirates just download game because they cant wait until the official release, or because they want to test a game before buying it.

Hell, even I have to fight with myself to not download it now and wait until I actually can hold it in my hands.

Theres a german saying: "Vorfreude ist die beste Freude", wich means something like "the greatest joy/pleasure is in the anticipation"

But of course there still are maaany of morons who dont buy the game, because they are cheap a**holes.

But it has always been like that.

And then look at the alternative:

Does anybody remember the hells you have to go through before beeing able to play GTA4 on the PC?

But pirates had to work months on the crack and it still doesnt work right.

I was watching the new trailer of mass effect 2 (launch trailer) and there was a pirate guy telling people to download the game free and shi*  bioware puts their time and money in making such great games as mass effect 2 and these cheap bastard all they do is download the game for free, how in the hell is that suppose to help the economy? I might have understanded if they at that moment didnt had or could make any kind of money but no they seem to enjoy it and dont care, according to the way they were saying it, its like "fu-- bioware we are getting it free"

so my real question is WHY did they make this game for pc? they CERTINELY dont deserve it at all! look what they doing now, mass producing that game for free, this guy said there is already 1700 people downloading tha torrent file thats a lot of money if u multiply that by 50.

So because some of us pc gamers pirates, no ones deserves the game? Go home console fanboy....

The people who DON'T eventually buy games after pirating them are usually the same people who can't afford a decent gaming rig or TV.

In which case, it really sucks to be them.

Let's not forget how laughably easy it is to mod a 360.

Look at the top 100 in the MW 2 leaderboards for some examples.

All I can say "Ouch".
Pirates did it again, but let's just hope they buy it later.

You're looking at wrong direction. There are plenty of people who actually buys the game.

Every game is pirated. Games like Mass Effect with an enriching story don't deserve to be pirated. Anyone playing an unpaid copy obviously doesn't appreciate the grand artistic paradigm of the Mass Effect series. In my opinion they're losing out more by writing the game off as another ISO to collect rather than a story to be enveloped in. But then you have games like Borderlands...

no need to get so mad and defensive about the pc version, you going to give yourself a ulcer and nobody is trolling here..and how would u know the 360 was cracked up 4 days before pc? link please? ummm pirate? either way in the pc is where most people start dowloading the game in great numbers compare to the 360, thats my point, no matter it they did it earlier or not, they just cant see that if they dont buy the game they arent helping bioware make money so that they can keep making such awesome games like mass effect 2.

I agree that not all pc owners shall suffer for what those low lifes are doing but there must be something they need to do for the pc version so they dont keep doing that in the future..

You are an idiot and a troll, i know i am offensive, but you really really asked for it.
So what about this: no one should have tv's: because they getting stolen, no one should have money: because they are getting stolen? Yes i hate pirates, but saying the pc version is a mistake is being a troll.
