So according to this video http://www.youtube.c...tHpoPCHgj0#t=70

We will be getting the chance to finish the mage/templar war.

Guesses for what characters will want it ended in what ways? And who may be willing to abandon you over your choices?

I really hope they do a good job balancing out the two sides, i dont want to automatically feel like the "good" side is with the mages

Sounds like people are finally given the option to vent their rage on Adrian and Fiona. Justice has been served!

Adrian hate is understandable. Duh she murders in cold blood.

I don't think it counts as "cold-blooded murder" when your victim is begging for death, in order to be spared from an even worse fate that will be forced on them by someone else otherwise.

Pinning the crime on a friend is kind of a dick move, I guess.

It seems it's quite early in game , so I think we're just going to have a truce at this point.

And you can probably choose one side over the other.

I don't think companions are going to leave so early, but I guess depending on your choice some won't be too happy.

I'm thinking Vivienne , Cassandra , Leliana , Cullen and maybe Varric will want you to give more powers to the templars (order)

And Solas , Dorian , Sera , Cole will favor the mages (change)

Not sure about Iron Bull , I'm thinking he probably doesn't like mages all that much.He hates demon , gets along with Viv and Cass , and well the Qun and magic...

And Blackwall , well the grey warden are cool with mages , but who knows.

Edit : I thought it was the demo , and it was about stopping the war in Redcliffe.

So nvm.

Time to bring the Templars and Mages to heel, Granting each of them lands in my new empire.. Using the Templars as a millitary force against my political enemies and making the mages A crown protectorate subservient to me....Y'know after bringing them into line of course, So discreetly eliminating Lambert, Fiona and Adrian of course...And breaking the troublesome fraternaties.

We're going to solve a continental war when we can just visit two nations? Aren't the mages in the Anderfels rebelling too, for instance?

Oh well, time to bring the mages to heel.

I generally play pro-mage, and I'm interested less in how the war ends and more about the middle stuff. In Origins I felt they did a pretty good job at it portraying the topic as being very grey (perhaps leaning towards templars being in the wrong) and DA2 was comparitively very black-and-black (perhaps leaning towards the templars, barring Kerras, Aldrik and Meredith, being in the right). However in the Hinterlands/Redcliffe reveal and the demo it kind of seemed like everyone was insane. There's a big difference between fighting for freedom/security and killing indiscriminately. From what (admittedly little) we've seen, so far the mages and templars in Inquisition seem to be leaning towards the latter, which bothers me. But we'll see come October how they handle the situation, and I'm in love with everything else I've seen so far about the game.

In terms of party members, at this stage I see it:
Pro-circle:
Cassandra
Varric
Vivienne (obviously)
Cullen
Leliana
The Iron Bull (because of his thing about demons, maybe)

Anti-circle:
Cole
Dorian
Sera

Neutral:
Blackwall
Solas (if he's an apostate/Dalish, he may look at the situation the same as Morrigan)

Either Solas, Blackwall or Scribbles could also be anti-circle, just based on the number of people I've assumed is pro-circle makes it very skewed. And also all companions will probably have very varying opinions within those camps (total lockdown, total freedom, self-regulation, no tranquility etc.).

I liked Adrian. I think she reacted appropriately throughout the book to Rhys increasingly treating her like crap.

Yeah, killing is wrong and so on, but c'mon, what the Templars were doing to that mage was monstrous. In the end, the mages were at least able to fully unite. Given that the Lord Seeker had just been looking for an excuse to crack down harder on the Circles, it was only a matter of time.

All mages everywhere. In Asunder, it was mentioned that the Circle in Rivain was Annulled.

At the beginning of Inquisition, there's a truce going on where the leadership between the two sides are meeting at the Temple of Sacred Ashes in Ferelden. That's when the fade tear opens and murders almost everyone. So the two sides think the other is responsible and throw in the fight.

The mage headquarters is somewhere between Ferelden and Orlais, and that's where it seems most of the Templars seem to be concentrated as well. So it makes sense that only operating in those two countries could cause the end of the conflict.

I am only guessing here but I think the reason there is so much indiscriminate killing going on is that both sides in the conflict have lost their leadership.   If the big event at the beginning takes place at a peace conference, then you would assume that the principle representatives of both sides would be there.   Not only that but both sides would probably assume that the other was responsible.   Essentially though both sides probably break down into factions and small groups and do whatever they feel is necessary.   Then you have the added problem of Templars getting high on red lyrium and possibly mages also being driven insane by coming into contact with it.

However, I thought what the demo showed was the situation in just one part of the world.   So even if you resolve the issue there, that doesn't necessarily mean you've ended the conflict in other parts of Thedas.   After all we never even get to the Anderfels, Antiva or Rivain, although I suppose it is possible we send our representatives to these places and then get reports back of our success or otherwise of converting people to our views.   Tevinter is getting involved in and trying to influence what happens in other parts of Thedas but the reality is that whatever you do, it will not change the status quo back in Tevinter.   Dorian is just one Magister of many, not the Archon or Black Divine, and even they can be assassinated if people don't like what they are trying to do (like the Archon who tried to end slavery).

Personally I'd like to establish a whole new way of dealing with the mage situation since the Circles never seemed to work that well in practice.  For all that the Templars are meant to be keeping the lid on the use of magic and mages, they failed to:

  • Prevent the First Enchanter of Ferelden conspiring with the Architect
  • Uldred becoming an abomination and conducting a mass take over of the Ferelden Circle by demons.
  • Anders repeatedly escaping, travelling to Kirkwall and blowing up the Chantry
  • Rebels repeatedly infiltrating the Gallows, mages escaping and a blood mage cult within its walls.
  • First Enchanter Orsion corresponding with a Necromancer and passing him suspect tomes to aid his work.
  • Keep their own members for torturing and raping the people they are meant to protect
  • Alric from deliberately flouting Chantry rules and forcibly making mages tranquil
  • A Senior Enchanter getting out from the White Tower, into a ball held at the royal palace and attempting to assassinate the Divine (it has to be admitted that this was probably done with the help of rebel Templars).

It seems to me that a far more effective organisation for controlling the activities of mages was the Mages Collective.  Alternatively, if Templars are guided by morality of what is fair and just rather than simply Divine Right.

If we are simply forced to choose a side when both are clearly at fault and asked to exterminate the losers as we were in DA2, then I shall be very disappointed.

The events at the Hinterlands leave me unimpressed with both factions. The mages have proven why they cannot be trusted with complete freedom. The Templars have soiled the name of their order with such disgraceful conduct, and the people of Thedas deserve better.

Needless to say, neither side will be getting what they want. The sooner they both come around, the less amount of their members will be strung up.

Why are people thinking Varric will be pro-templar? He will be neutral most likely, but i think if anything he'll be pro-mage.

He was more toward templars in da 2 ending when he always stick to hawke it seems that he doesn't like powerful lunatics roaming around spreading destruction. If you side with mages he says something like that "im not sure that we should helping dangerous peoples casue mess"

Going by the E3 demo, both the Mages and Templars in Ferelden deserve to be killed on sight at this point or dumped in a dungeon for countless murders and other atrocities.

So when they say "end the mage/templar war", I expect it to mean kill all the mages and Templars that didn't join the Inquisition at this point...

In the whole video, you come across a woman whose husband, who is not a mage, was killed by the Templars when trying to stop them from raiding a village or something.

Perhaps they wanted hunt on mages and guy went in their way so i don't see problem in that they killed him especially that guy was helping dangerous bombs that would blow up village. Unless they become bandist well it is nothing irregular , after all templars protect world from mages at any cost.

Ps.They posted full video not just short pieces?

Ignoring biased part to answer question: No, Bioware has not released the full thing yet. However someone on Youtube released the first 18 minutes or so.
