I am in the middle of an ME2 game and was thinking about how it is difficult to run and gun as much as ME3 without very specific builds or characters, much of this centering on RHA not working as great since Shep won't aim if you get too close to cover, but also the difference in enemy accuracy and Shepard's shields.

I looked through some old threads but didn't find as much concrete data as I would like, so I took a gander at coalesced.ini.

Anyway in the shield section you have some stats that seem straight forward.  Shield regen delay is set to 5 seconds, and shield recharge time is set to 2.  Then you have something called "bFastCoverRegen" which is set to true.  I assumed that is some sort of regen bonus if you are in cover, but does anybody know the amount?

Also shield gate is set to true, and there is a variable called "DamageGateInterval" which is set to 1.  It seems like that would be too long for shield gate to be active, unless it isn't in seconds.  Is this the amount of time before the shield gate will refresh?

I do not think that ME2 shield gate has a 'refresh' timer like ME3 does, at least not that I can recall.

Not entirely sure if DamageGateInterval=1 means 1 second or not. Shield gate in ME2 seems to last about 0.5 - 1 second, so maybe it is one second? You would probably have to play around with that setting to be sure though.

I'm on Xbox so I cannot play around with the coalesced file.

Hmm I wonder if power duration penalties affect the gate duration.

I guess I could test this out.  ME2 is more of a pain to edit coalesced (it runs a checksum on it or something at load).

edit:

Well I took a look at it.  Didn't do an exhaustive test, but I edited the duration to 10 and just stood in the open and it did last for 10 seconds of real time (technically slightly longer, but I think that just had to do with the frequency of enemy hits since it was a few tenths of a second).  So that is one mystery solved.

It appears my suspicion was right that shield gate is more noticeable in ME2 than ME3. That full second delay is quite noticeable in ME2. I'm not sure what the delay is in ME3, but I have never really noticed it. Maybe .1 seconds?

I imagine it means Right Hand Advantage.

The shield gate has always felt quite long to me, so not too surprised to learn it is 1.0 sec.  Helps to counterbalances the massively long stagger I suppose.

Yeah but there are other factors at work as well.

5 second regen delay is longer than a 0 fitness character has on Platinum in ME3 (4 seconds).  Also enemy accuracy is practically like locked on accuracy in ME3, which doesn't occur until 3-6s of sustained line of sight.  You also get the health gate in ME3.

Indeed. I've never become bored playing me2. Just change the build and off we go again. But me3...
