To be fair, after having played ME2 I agree that it's a shooter with RPG elements - but that's how I'd consider the first game as well. It's no less of an RPG than the first was; it's just got a more polished combat system with less of the stat/mod/ammo/armour management.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you not one of the ones who was condemning ME2 as being more shooter and less RPG than ME1? If so, I am glad you changed your opinion. If not....well your post still helps prove that all hell has not broken loose in ME land.

You again! I offered to PM you with links to websites! You can't play Mass Effect one-handed anyway!

At one point I may have said something along those lines. It was a fear of mine that Bioware may have streamlined things -too- much. Then again, when facts change I change my opinion. What do you do?

Same. Was just pointing out that you were one of the naysayers(kind of) and upon actually playing the game, the naysaying was ended. Not intended as an attack, if that's what you viewed it as.
I haven't played yet, but I have yet to see anything that makes me think it's any less RPG-ish than the first.

Yeah, I guess it has. I still feel there is less RPG in Mass Effect than I'd personally like, but that doesn't change the fact that Mass Effect 2 is, quite honestly, one of the best games in the last 5 years. It's one of those games people will look back on for reference and inspiration when creating future works.
I hate to say it but I just don't feel Mass Effect is an RPG... well, not in the traditional sense. It's just not. It just can't be compared to anything D&D based, or stat based, or 3d-isometric, or even some action RPGs - because it's not. It's something else. It's brilliant, undeniably, but it should be called something else. "Choose your own adventure"-Shooter, maybe?

Correct. It's not an RPG, nor was ME1. However, neither is it a pure shooter. anyone who has ever played a shooter could tell you that. You're right, it's something entirely new, and i love it. I enjoy the story, choices, and customization and level of detail combined with the fast action. It took what were the best of both worlds, in my opinion of course, and combined them.
but a lot of people seem to think ME1 was more RPG. it really wasn't. It was never intended to be like DA:O.

personally... I think it's less about gay gamers that want Shep to be their identity and more so the overtly hormonal teen boys that play as a Fem Shep and wanna see hot girl on girl action...
these forums have gone epic fail... i miss the old ME forums....
