After seeing the brothel thread elsewhere, one thing on my mind that I felt was kind of missing was the busier, run-down tavern filled with the more colorful lot of the bottom rung of society, some of which you can interact with, and given the wrong response, could get into a fight with at any given time, or choose people to play a game of cards with, possibly cheat to gain more sovereigns if your dex/cunning score is high enough, etc.. The Hanged Man in Kirkwall was generally a pretty empty and peaceful place, when it wasn't swarming with demons, but I'd love to have that one bad bar that "decent" folk would generally stay away from where you might be able to come across useful characters who can feed you info or you can just mess with for amusement. Of course a lot of this stuff would probably have to be plot relevant somehow, even if for minor quests, but I'd sure love to have a "Think I'll take two chickens" moment for the lulz.

What do you think?

Since the Hanged Man's reputation was either a good/bad guy bar depending on who was in there that night, it always struck me as odd that we only had two or three fights inside there in the entire game? Hawke was supposed to be winding a lot of people up with their activitities, as well as being known as a frequent patron of the pub, so it would have made sense to have mercs, coterie, carta or just a few liquoured up patrons pick a fight at least once or twice?

I support the inclusion of a proper bad guy bar in Dragon Age, something like Chora's Den in the first Mass Effect.

They need to make taverns like the Witcher. I'm sorry I know people hate the W series around here, but this aspect of that series truly is superior to Dragon Age's. Boxing, gambling, arm wrestling, brothels, and rumors that might actually lead to side quests.

That sounds like it would be a lot of fun, especially as a dwarf or qunari!

I don't think it's that people hate the Witcher series. It's that we're tired of hearing how much more mature and better and smarter it apparently is from certain sects of the fanbase. (Your segue actually makes sense and is diplomatic. Some just come out of nowhere and are a bit mean spirited)

Back to the OP, yes, anything involving bars and alcohol would make the game better. I would very much like to bring my companions to the tavern and compete in drinking contests against them.

Another Dwarven pub like Tapster's in Origins would be nice to see, that place had a fantastic atmosphere.

But a Vashoth pub filled with Qunari mercenaries would be a whole different level of awesome. If Sten was telling the truth and those under the Qun have to begin executions to bring their people back to order after a celebration, can you imagine the type of knees up you'd get if you put a bunch of rowdy Vashoth in a room together?

Ha, I usually see more Witcher praise on these forums than any other group. That includes CDprojekt Reds official groups.

As for Inns and Taverns, I'm a huge believer that the "Tavern" in an RPG represents an extremely powerful opportunity, as well as a potent tool in atmosphere and world building. Regional taverns can serve as local "Cross Section" representations of the area, and you can jam a lot of exaggerated atmospheric touches in these relatively tiny areas that carry more than their individual weight in the game itself.

I think the reception of Mass Effect's "Citadel" expansion kind of exemplifies this, and I'm hoping that there's a lot of these kinds of moments built into Dragon Age: Inquisition. Cutting people down with Broadswords and Battleaxes is all well and good, but blood and entrails can only tell so much of the story of the world.

I wonder though if the Inquisitor themselves might make this hard to pull off.  After all if you are this messiah/ figure to be feared throughout the land then you step in a bad guy bar then everyone instantly shuts up and flees through the back door.  Though it might prove to be an interesting way to track the progress of your game, you go into a bar early and everyone pays you no heed, go in later, and people make note of you may even want to challenge you, go in towards the end of the game and everyone panicks.

Nuts to that lot, if we perform the ye olde worlde pub routine, I want darts and dominos. And all rumours must be trivial gossip about how Mrs Baker's second cousin's eldest is no better than she ought to be.

I feel offended that the company permits prostitution but forbids open relationships with companions.

Seriously, Zevran (nigh-native Texan disclaimer: female on that playthrough), of all people, forces the player to choose?

...jealousy is a fickle emotion.  Though I do suppose if anyone would be open to such things it would be Zev. :P

Though there are probably technical limitations to.

I liked all of the pubs in DA:O, but Tapsters was my favorite. I loved the drunken dwarf that was singing and burping.

This could be tied to the world state, as you progress through the story your actions affect the world around you, being a renegade/bad ass would probs lead to more npc's disliking you. This means that as a good guy/girl you would have no problem in a location where a bad ass would have people attacking you and picking fights with you.

I agree.  I'm one of the people who didn't really enjoy most TW2's story content and characters, but I always had a good time in the pub!  Actually, I'm torn between the pub minigames and such being my favorite thing about the game, or the beautiful graphics and animations (I mean, dang!  Those trolls were amazing!)  I'd like my scrappy Cadash to be able to bust a few heads in the tavern after someone accuses her of cheating at Wicked Grace (which, to be fair, she probably did.)

My thoughts exactly. Ooh, I hope we can get her drunk! She is such a stick in the mud! It would be nice if we could get the entire party drunk like in Baldur's Gate. With some interface screw for added hilarity.
