I wonder which mods are the best. I have scanned through the first 16 pages of nexus and have only found one or two that I want. Although mods that add insanely powered up items to you characters may be fun and lock bashing and fade skipping a jol, sometimes you just want to get a mod that doesn't cheat, but isn't useless. Bug fixes are fine, but boring. Little campaigns are fun, but take too many megs. I feel like I am being a wet blanket. *sigh* <_<

Anyway- I am looking for the best non-cheating mods out there! Any suggestions?

Lady Karrakaz has done an excellent job of discussing good mods. Her blog is a bit dated now, but her advice is still valid.

I use a ton of mods, but I'm not big on "cheating" mods either. Some of the ones I use are:

Extra Companions: Ser Gilmore NPC, Extra Dog Slot

Romance: Improved Romance Scenes-Alistair, Zevran Romance Scenes, ZevRing, Rendezvous at the Tavern, Dahlia Lynn's Royal Wedding, Zevran Open Wedding, Leliana Romance Scenes (still in development, but there are bits you can use)

Bug Fixes/Restored Scenes: Zevran Dialogue Fix, Morrigan Restoration Patch, Loghain Friendly Eligible (add-on to ZDF)

Armor (none of these are overpowered, in my opinion): Edriano Sentinel Armor, Labrynthian Robes, Shadow Wardens Armor, The Phoenix Armory, Armor of the Devout, Armor of the Sten (restricted to Sten)

Weapons (these can be a bit overpowered, but they are fun): Blood Mage Staff, Hawkeye Longbow & Shortbow

Extra Quests: Alley of Murders (it's not overly long, but fun)

Various: Character Respec, Zevran ASAP (get him right after Lothering), Camp Storage Chest, Sleep Until Dawn

I also use a lot of mods for the character creator and some morphs for companions/NPCs, but there are too many to list. Hope that helps. :)

I have just picked up the "no circles" mod. It sounds fun.

OOH! They made a hugging mod!

You CAN marry Zevran!?

Time compile my chargen morphs!

There are SO many!

MORE! MORE! ;)

Pity I don't have awakening. They don't seem to sell it anymore. -_-

Not yet mentioned:
- tmp7704's female proportions fix
- tmp7704's gore adjustment (looks better than the default blood spatter on characters)
- personal annoyance remover (tones down the visual effects)

It's widely available:

http://store.steampo....com/app/47730/

https://www.origin.c...gins--awakening

http://www.amazon.co.../dp/B003336KG4/

Etc., etc.

Prepare for negativity:

Steam charges too much for awakenings. Origin won't add my items to the cart. Amazon charges outrageous shipping rates and downloading takes to many megs anyway.

Prepare for positivity:

At least they still sell it.

How many other mods are out there? Nexus is huge, isn't it?

Have you looked at a GameStop for Awakenings? They always seem to have it every time I go into one for around $10.

You might try a Half Price Books as well. I got my brand new PC copy of DA2 for $5, and I've seen both DAO and DAA at that store as well for cheap.

(As I don't know where you live, I'm assuming you have these stores. :)) If not, there's always eBay.

As for mods, there are SO many. When I originally looked for DAO mods, I went to the "Categories" section of the Nexus and looked through every single category, only clicking on mods that seemed appealing based on name/description. It took me a couple of days to go through them all, but I ended up with a large list of amazing mods that work perfectly together.

Amazon is good source too - I see it on sale for $7.52 + shipping
origin has it as a download for $10

But the best value for your money is the ultimate edition

Amazon... But that means OVERSEAS shipping!

Also: Ultimate edition? Is that better? How?

Also: Sorry, never heard of "Half-Priced Books"

After a long search, I have found Awakenings on a local site.

( It costs 55,356 US Dollars, or 32,633 British Pounds, or 58,872 Austalian Dollars, or 40,887 Euros, or 5648,913 Japanese Yen. See how I put it in different currencies? Expensive, isn't it? This is why I don't like internet shopping. )

I think I will have better luck at your overseas sites. Lemme check.

Yes. Even with shipping, America knows how to lower prices. My local sites all want profit.

Modding-Wise, I have just collected hazy sun and a jowan's intention fix!

The Ultimate Edition of DAO has the DAO main game, Awakenings, Golems of Amgarrak, Witch Hunt, Leliana's Song, The Darkspawn Chronicles, Warden's Keep, The Stone Prisoner, Return to Ostagar, Feastday Gifts, and Feastday Pranks all included (I think that's everything). By far the best deal.

You can search for the "top files of all time" on DAO Nexus, I think the first 20 are all worth a try.

If you have a relatively powerful gfx card, I'd recommend JB3 textures, really makes a difference, if you are gfx who*e the Sweetfx mod is also handy.

Discussion of several players' "what mods I use and why" lists:

Good Mod - Opinions

Speaking of the Nexus, it hosts 2,128 files for DAO/DAA, and 951 for DA2.

Don't feel guilty for skipping the fade.  Except for a few dialogue choices the fade sequence is only a challenge of your memory and patience.  I doubt Niall responds very differently in any event, and you are awarded all the XP, codex entries and ability points anyway.  For me it just seems a little pointless to do that, since I don't like the fade sequence much anyway.  I have the skip Ostagar but haven't installed it because I'm a little weird and like it.
