Plan on doing a Engineer Play through just for ME3. If it goes well I might do a trilogy play through. I've been constantly playing tech characters an fell in love with the engineer class for power usage. What I wish to know are some good tech combos or strategies? An what weapons, mods, & bonus powers that work well with the class. I don't see myself using the drone or turret. I plan on using EDI primarily but would also like to know what squad mates work well with the engineer class. Much appreciated.

Maxing Incinerate and Overload is a must. Cryo Blast is optional, though I personally like the feel of it. With those three powers, you have a sort of avatar-like engineer, very elemental with a loads of elemental powers and themed explosions. Keep your weapon load light and you'll be doing lots of tech bursts, be good at crown and battlefield control and good at survivability. Personally, I love the combo heavy engineer. And I love turrets and drones.

You could also go with heavier weapon load out, keep your cooldown between 50 and 100 percent and supplement what you'll lose in power damage with weapons. It's a very valid build, but not my favourite.

Basic Combo-focused Engineer build:

Sabotage: Damage - Explosive Hack - Tech Vulnerability

Incinerate: Damage* - Burning Damage - Armor Damage

Overload: Damage* - Neural Shock - Shield Damage

Tech Mastery: Damage - Damage and Capacity - Damage

* Some players prefer the Radius for incinerate and Chain Overload for Overload. I do not, as I do not find it all that useful in the single player campaign since you have Sabotage.

If you can import a character from ME2:

1) Put all starting points into Overload, Incinerate, and Sabotage. If no AP Ammo, put 1 point into Combat Drone (to turn Guardians around).

2) Max Tech Mastery

3) Max your bonus power

4) Max Fitness

5) Laugh maniacally.

If you are starting from level 1, I would do something like this:

1) Put 1-3 points into Overload, Incinerate, and Sabotage as soon as possible. If no AP Ammo. put one point into Combat Drone (to get Guardians to turn around)

2) Max Sabotage.

3) Max Incinerate/Overload, then max the other (your preference)

4) Max Tech Mastery

5) Max bonus power

6) Max Fitness.

Best bonus powers for the Engineer:

Fortification: Durability - Power Synergy - Durability (could always switch with Defense Matrix for the shield boost).

AP Ammo: Damage - Headshots - Damage

Combos:

1) Always use Sabotage first. This is your strongest opening power. The Tech Vulnerability at rank 6 increases the damage of Sabotage itself, plus all other tech powers on the affected target for 10 seconds, including Tech burst damage (not sure about fire explosions).

2) When comboing off of Sabotage, you can only combo off the backfire (a visible electrical effect), which occurs about 1.5 seconds after Sabotage hits. If I recall, you have about 2 seconds after the backfire occurs to combo.

3) You can chain tech combos on the same target, so long as you alternate tech abilities and tech explosion types. So Overload > Incinerate (detonate tech burst, prime fire explosion) > Overload (detonate fire explosion, prime tech burst) > Incinerate > Overload .... and so on. So against large enemies like Geth Primes and Atlases: Sabotage > Incinerate > Overload > Incinerate > Overload > Incinerate ...

Weapons:

IMPORTANT: Most tech powers have about a 3 to 3.5 second window to detonate, so if you want to detonate your own combos, you must keep your weapon weight between +200% and +150%. If you take Fortification/Barrier/Defense Matrix, these powers incur a cooldown penalty, so you must adjust your weapon weight accordingly.

Other than that, use whatever weapons you like that fit the above parameters. (NOTE: This is assuming the above build which focuses on combos. There are other non-combo builds that allow more variety of weapons).

Squadmates:

These are my preferred squadmates with a power-combo focused Engineer:

 - EDI: Overload and Incinerate only.

 - Tali: Energy Drain only, specced for maximum power damage; requires extra power damage from her outfit and pistol Power Magnifier mod to fully-strip shields off most basic enemies. Shame you get her too late in the game.

 - Ashley: Concussive Shot (good detonator), Inferno Grenades (good but limited primer), and Disruptor Ammo (excellent primer, but can override fire explosions if not careful).

 - Garrus: Overload, Proximity Mine, Concussive Shot, and AP Ammo. A good all-around squadmate.

That should get you started with a power-focused Engineer.

Additional notes:

 - Unlike the Adept, which deals most of its power damage through combo damage, the Engineer deals most of its damage through the actual power damage. This is why Sabotage with Tech Vulnerability is so important, as it greatly increases the power damage.

 - I usually spec intel and armor for power damage, but feel free to add weapon damage instead if you want your guns to feel more powerful. It is a decent tradeoff.

To give you a small idea about how a power-focused Engineer can play:

Engineer versus Reapers in the Leviathan DLC.

Engineer squad versus the Three Primes on Rannoch.

Engineer versus the Geth on the Geth Dreadnaught.

I am sure there are much better gameplay videos out there. This is just to give you an idea about just how good the Engineer can be.
