The DA developers always stress how important the whole ressource management of strengthening the inquisition is. That a major part of the game is not increasing the strength of your party, but increasing the power of your faction. And they have hinted that there are several domains, such as militairy strength, political strength, espionage and possibly trade, which can be focused on. They have also mentioned that power thresholds in those domains act as gatekeeper for unlocking the next chapters of the content.

How do you think this will play out? Will it be like DAA, that you make individual decisions and the game keeps track of it, you only seeing eventually the outcome? Or will it be like Mass Effect 3, with one single number representing your power? Or multiple numbers, each representing power in one domain? Or yet something different? Is there even an own strategic miniplay for this, where you direct your armies?
How is your inquisition strengthened? Is it through own quests? Is it by finding and gathering stuff on the side, like in DAO? Or is it by making decisions of companion/item strength vs. inquisition power? Is it by making hard moral decisions?
Is it possible to screw your inquisition by constantly neglecting to strengthen it and thus ending up in a dead end?

What other ideas do you people have?
I think that could become one of the really new, interesting aspects of the game, if well developed.

That wasn't really a bad idea, ME3 just handled it poorly

I expect that many of the quests in the game will be built around increasing your power base.

But I want numbers too. Numbers make me happy.

most likely all of this combined

these could be all apart of many choices on how you the player choose to strengthen your Inquisition

Which I don't think numbers will be the only way to tell the strength of the Inquisition it will be one way.  Simply put in some of the gameplay we have seen we have seen how we need 'agents' to do certain things.  And have a threshold with those agents when they need to do missions.  Likewise I imagine with the troops we will have their number and what they are equipped with, economy will be a gold supply, and espionage not sure exactly.  But it would be nice to have some numbers simply to know what resources we have available.  I always felt with Awakening they did not give you a good idea of how strong Vigil's Keep and its forces were.

If I remember correctly, from an earlier play-through, taking over a keep and stationing units there will also add to power.

Please power should be illustrated in numbers, it's simple.

From everything I've read strengthening the Inquisition the war assets from Mass Effect 3. The main difference though, is that we will actually see the growing power of the Inquisition play out in the world. So soldiers will start patrolling roads and towns, they'll be out building camps, weapons, bridges, mining for resources and so on and so forth.

I understand that when we capture a fort, we will have the option to put it towards one of the three facets of the Inquisition; and they mentioned that we will have the option to do things like investing crafting material for our spies or money for our political side. But I'm wondering if those resources could be distributed to any part of the Inquisition or if when you have them, it'll be a choice between 1 part of the Inquisition and yourself.

Having some straightforward numbers to gauge and allocate resources is a good thing. Seeing them in action and getting to interact with them is even better. I'd prefer something much more engaging than the raw point totals of Mass Effect 3, like some glorified numerical score tracking of much older titles.

hopefully I could command squads on the field when the time comes.  I would like to order a platoon to ransacked every falls god in their fort and replace them with my inquisitor's figurine.

I seem to recall in one of the interviews it was also mentioned how it would affect when you could undertake quest.   So there is a really strong fortress that you want to take but until your forces and resources are high enough you won't be able to do so.   They need to build siege equipment and you will actually see your forces using the battering ram to breach the gates.   Or did I dream all that and it is merely wishful thinking?

They have also said you will be able to resolve the mage/Templar war.   Since that is spread across Thedas, even if the main factions are within Orlais, and we don't get to visit places like the Anderfels or Antiva, then I'm assuming there will be a degree of sending armies, diplomatic envoys, etc, out to other parts of Thedas to persuade them to your point of view and depending on how strong your resources when you send them, will govern how successful they are.  In fact you wouldn't be able to send them at all until a certain level of resources is reached.

Maria: Yes, numbers are good.  I too want to see them, but they needed to be handled much better than ME3.  Having all choices distilled to raw numerical values was weak.  I want to see those numbers working on the battlefield, via expanded cutscenes and gameplay.

A big problem with ME3 system is that you acquire assets but never get to utilise and it comes across as a pointless number.

By the sounds of it in DAI we are going to be able to utilise assets by getting to do tasks(building bridges etc) which hopefully should make growing the power base of inquisition feel rewarding.
