Hello, guys. I was wondering if anyone can give me suggestions on a good laptop for gaming and other activities on the go, away from home. I'll be out of my home for a while and I wanted to start PC gaming on my free time to replace playing on my PS3 for a while. I'm kinda aware that laptops are inferior to desktops when it comes to gaming, but I wanted to start it soon.

- My budget is $1000, but preferably under $900, because of warranties and whatnot
- CD drive. I haven't seen many with those lately.
- Good graphics card put in (unless I have to get my own)
- Able to handle certain games (it doesn't have to run something like Crysis or anything, but maybe some BioWare games, The Witcher, and plenty Steam games
- Mod accessibility

If I have anything weird or distorted on here, I apologize. I'm a newbie when it comes to PC gaming...

The first question I always ask is, exactly how mobile do you require that system to be? If you are just moving to different places regularily, but then stay at those places for some time with access to an own room, etc. a small form factor (ITX) PC might be better suited as it still enables desktop PC performance, but is still easy to bring along (the monitor not so much though, but there's plenty decent and small monitors that you can bring along in a standard suitcase (though you want to be careful with that of course).

Alternatively, for the same situation, you shouldn't scorn consoles. If you stay at a place with a TV, you can always just bring along a console, hook it up and play if you don't require office applications for work.

I would only ever "recommend" a laptop as a last resort if you really have no way of gaming otherwise, because laptops are for one quite expensive and not very powerful (or you have to really pay the premium for a high powered gaming laptop).
