I'm stuck on a minor speedbump in my progress on porting the ME1 armors to ME3.  I wanna put in the Janissary, Spectre, and possibly the Crisis armors, but I can't work out how to recolor them. :)

They're the armor with the larger shoulder guard on the left side, like this:

(this is the Spectre armor)

I know someone was working on a recolor for Ashley, but how do you do it?  It beats the heck outta me ;)

Edit: Never mind, I've got it now.  I can't match the original ME1 versions, but I'm gonna try to put together a workable recolor for the fellas, since the ladies already have some.  :)

I wonder if it would be possible to bring back the ME1/ME2 crew uniforms? ME3 noticeably put a "shelf" under female characters' bustline; the ME1/2 appearance just seemed a bit more professional.

In theory, I'd think it'd be possible.  It's most likely just an issue of textures and bone counts.  Not something I'd attempt, since I prefer the ME3 uniforms over the originals :)

Ok, this is what I've got going on so far with Shepard's new armor.  Fair warning, I'm by no means an expert at photoshop.  This is very much a rough draft.

I've got to tidy it up quite a bit (it looks horrible in close ups) and I intend to make the camo pattern more visible, but this is what I'm shooting for.  I'd love some constructive criticism :)

Edit: And it helps to put up the right screenshot...

I like it. Maybe make the black look more like a carbon-fiber pattern and  reduce the spec a bit as it looks a little shiny at the moment.

You could always 'borrow' the camo pattern from another armor and then overlay it on the armor.

Thanks :)

I'm not sure how to do a carbon fiber pattern, but it sounds neat.  I'll have to look into that.

Definitely possible. Not sure about practical.

A straightforward export/convert/import gave me this:

Obviously I missed something in the texture with regards to the arms (would need to talk to someone who actually know what they are doing).

Problem is that you'd also have to replace all the other versions, i.e. the Grissom, Cerberus and Tinted citadel, which would require new textures (well not for cerberus i guess they could come straight from me2)

For the crew uniforms, all that's needed is for the specular map to be imported, it contains an alpha channel that tells the game where the skin is and then proceeds to colour it. For the colour maps on the armour, I seem to have a good hand at doing those and I was going to get around to this specific armour anyhow pretty soon.

@Mira: would you be interested in doing a texture for this to be incorporated into my ported armors mod?  :)  I do want to have a couple options for it, if possible.

Sure, I'll pull the male and female textures tomorrow and work on them to be the same size as the diffuse.

Ok, so this happened

The joys of editing meshes when you have no clue what you're doing are never-ending. ;)  Forgot the skin wrap...

In other news, everybody else is coming along fairly well.  Liara's heavy is done, light and medium are close. Kaidan's slightly blue-tinted but I finally tracked down why.  James is cooperating nicely and his should be done soon.  And somehow I managed to turn Shepard's Janissary from black/red to red/black.

Is that the medium Phoenix? I did a retexture for that one if you're nterested.

Actually...it's the light Colossus... Wrong spec. ;)  But I am doing the medium Phoenix too, so I would indeed be interested.  :D

Nice work with the Colossus - are you using the original textures from ME1 or are they self-created?

In any case, do you think you will make the colossus armor available in some way? The .upk file and the textures would be great, as I don't know how to extract them from ME1.

Thanks! :)  They're all the original textures from ME1, save the spec files.  When I get the mod done, I'll be including a few HD retextures by others (with their permission) as optional downloads.  I don't know when the mod will be up for download, tho.   Getorex already has the male heavy Colossus in and working for Shepard over here, if you'd like it.  This is essentially going to be an addition to that.  I'm adding all the different textures, the other weights, female versions, and matching ones for the whole humanoid squad.  It's gonna take me a while...

The heavy resources I'm using for this are by ELE08 and you can download them here (bottom of the list).  Be warned, the diffuse files are straight rips and won't work as-is.  You'll need to reformat them and remove the alpha channels.  The other weights aren't done yet, but if you want one, PM me and I'll see what I can do. :)

Hey Shanlii, ogg2203.  I focused on one armor mesh (the male HVYa version) and the Colossus texture which is available at my thread.  It replaces the Collector armor.  A request from someone at Nexus got me to adapt the Onyx texture (almost finished) and am currently tweaking the Predator texture.  The meshes for each class are the same regardless of the name of the armor (makes it easy for those adapting them) with the only thing making them different from each other being the texture applied (and the specifications in the game itself).  Almostfaceman did a HVYb armor for Ashley (can't recall the "type" of armor, ie, texture he went with - it looks good) and I think he made it available at Nexus.

It's good that you are working the other armors (light, medium) as well as the female versions.  If you want a copy of my male HVYa let me know and I'll pass it on.  The original intent of my own mod was to start putting out other textures for it besides Colossus but I got side-tracked with other mods that were pulling a higher demand.  I will probably stick with Onyx and Predator, and possibly the Desert and Urban camo patterns for the male HVYa.

Shanlii, are you planning to provide yours as new armors (cloning) to go with current armors or are you going to replace an armor like I did?  I THINK (and hope) I will be able to keep the same SPEC for all the other textures I use, given the oddities of the Collector armor's material I don't want to have to keep figuring out the "right" color pallet to use with a handful of different diff textures.

As for extracting everything from ME1, you cannot use ME3Explorer.  There is another tool called Umodel (a command line app) plus a GUI that makes it MUCH easier to deal with, UModel Helper.  With this tool you can pull out any mesh or textures from ME1.  Unfortunately you can't go the other way.

UModel: http://www.gildor.or...projects/umodel

UModel Helper: http://www.gildor.or...opic,330.0.html  (it's at the bottom of the first post and is hard to see...look for the little paperclip image and red hyperlink text for UModelGUI.zip).

I haven't finalized where I'll put Shepard's yet.  I thought about the Collector, but the horror stories about its spec kinda make me nervous.  I just might try cloning them in instead, now that you mention it.  :)  But, is it possible to do a .mod file of cloned items?  I've never heard of anyone trying that.  Everybody else will be replacing their Collector's Edition armors, hopefully with helmets included.  Speaking of, does anybody know if Liara actually had a unique helmet in ME1 and if so, where it might be hiding in the files?  I checked all the headgear files but didn't see anything especially asari shaped.  I really would rather not leave her with the silly-looking breather mask if I don't have to.

I haven't seen almostfaceman's Ash armor, but I'd like to.  I can't find it on the Nexus, though. :(

I've got all the armor meshes extracted and working, but thanks for the offer! :)  Regarding the Onyx; if you want the N7 logo and stripe you'll need the HVYb model, unless you're redoing the HVYa's texture mapping, otherwise it'll be plain.  I tore my hair out for a month trying to figure out why that darn stripe wasn't showing up until ELE08 pointed out that Shepard has a different model!

So far, it does look like one spec file will work for the different patterns, unless you want other bits duller/shinier or are doing different lighting.   At least with my limited tests :)

I don't know about modding cloned armors in. Perhaps it is a manual job of replacing a pcc with clones in it, then you could mod that...for Shepard only.

Fortunately Colossus and Onyx are simple enough color schemes that the same spec works OK. I'll mess with a camo texture too just to see what it looks like with the same spec. In ME1 the camo armors were all matt/flat (like actual camo) so the spec may be REAL easy - make it all dull.

I'll find a link to Almostfaceman's armor. He was posting his work in my thread so it is all there from start to finish. Started out all wrong in color but he got it worked out real nicely.

Well, I guess if I have to to a pcc for the Shepards, I will.  Everybody else can stay as a basic replacer.  That might be easier in the long run, actually.  And I think the spec (I'm working with anyway) looks ok with the camo, but you might disagree.  I think it's just a matter of preference ;)

And thanks for looking for that link for me :)  I'm eager to see how it looks!

It was survivor_686, not Almostfaceman, and here's a link to his post in my thread: http://forum.bioware...the-side/page-9

Ok, here's a few quick shots of what things are looking like.  This is nowhere near all the armors that'll be included, (there'll be something like 15 or so per weight) but this should give a general idea of what's happening here :)  And I don't have any female medium or male light in yet, but they'll be included too.  Edit: James will only be getting heavy armor.  Everybody else will have all three weights.

Male medium armors - Onyx and Colossus

Female light armor - Colossus

Female Heavy armors - Colossus, Phoenix, Titan, and Onyx

Male Heavy armors - Onyx (only here for demo purposes, Getorex is doing this one) and Colossus
