So, to bring this thread back around to the original point, this is what my recolor of the male Janissary (MEDc for modders) armor has turned into. Please keep in mind that this is my first, and likely last, attempt at a from-scratch texture.
I seriously have no clue how I did that, but I kinda like it better than what I had. I'm currently trying to get more differentiation between the red and black without losing anything and am thinking of adding Spectre emblems somewhere. Feedback, tips, and constructive criticism are very much encouraged. ![]()
@Getorex: Thanks! There's a long way to go still, but it's nice to hear they look good to someone other than me. I get a little biased when I'm working on something ![]()

Shanlii: I've updated my Colossus armor mod with an edited BIOGame_INT.tlk file that changes the armor name from "Collector Armor" to "Colossus Armor" and changes the detail information on the armor to that of Colossus (copied from the ME1 Colossus Armor wiki). For your information - you edit BIOGame_INT.tlk to change the armor name and data so you may want to do that for each of your mods. You cannot make a mod for this, only provide the edited BIOGame_INT.tlk:

Have you figured out what the trick is for the spec of Collector Armor (replacement) to reduce shine? I THOUGHT I had it but in applying the desert and jungle camo textures to my original Colossus mod (with new specs), I see I do not.

Thanks for link. I recall that page from long ago but had lost the link. In any case, I have to assume that my shiny issue is a function of the alpha because my spec is black over parts that are (still) shiny. I've been playing with different alpha effects but no joy yet.

@Getorex: No I don't, sorry!
The only way I know of so far to fix the shine is darkening the colors and/or darkening the alpha, which I'm sure you've tried already. I'm still fiddling myself. Sorry I can't help more ![]()
Edit: have you tried blacking out the matching black parts on your alpha? that seems to work for me.
And thanks for the note on the .tlk file! I'll look into doing that for everybody.

I got the magic. I already had my Spec mostly blacked out but was still getting gloss where I didn't want it. I made the alpha layer almost black over the same parts and that did it. My camo armor textures are now flat/matt and using it on Colossus made it flat all over too, though I like Colossus with a bit of gloss to it. I'm trying darker shades of green on the shiny metal pins to try and get their shine down (eliminating their shine is easy enough but I don't want to totally eliminate it...yet) and darker shades of purple on the lights to try and get the glow reduced.
Also, desaturating the Urban camo and darkening the pattern a lot made it look, in the end, like proper urban camo. I did some pattern cloning on a few spots and now the pattern is more widely distributed.
I also edit the UV map of Colossus and Onyx so they both have the shoulder stripes and an N7 on the right chest of Onyx. Was fairly easy but it does make the mesh particular to a certain "type" of armor.

Oh, on the tlk file. There is a LOT of references to Collector and Collectors in it. A LOT. You have to work though it to find THE armor reference, the armor data reference, and also the information on the armor itself. Convert the tlk to xml with the tlk editor in ME3Explorer, Tools menu, and then edit the xml version, then use the tlk editor to re-convert it to a proper tlk.
I'll fire up my editor (I use Notepad++ with the xml plugin) and see about providing the line numbers for the entries so you don't have to search so hard.
Update: here's where I edited the tlk to change Collector Armor references to Colossus (and will for Predator, etc). These line numbers are what I get in Notpad++ editing the xml conversion of the tlk.

Awesome! Thanks for the numbers!
I'll be testing it out tonight for sure.

Little update. I've got the male footie pajamas light armor and female medium armor in
The specs are still being worked on.
I've also been fiddling with my Janissary some more. It's back to black with red accents, but I managed to hang on to the distressed look and added some crack effects to it. I'm about ready to call it done, I think. Opinions? ![]()

Quick question: For the N7 armours, are you using the mesh specific to the armours, or the general meshes the other armours use?

Testing male Shepard, Kaidan, and Liara's light armor and fiddling with the lighting patterns. Shepard's is still a tiny bit too shiny for my liking...
Reboning the medium armor for Ashley is next once I get these specs tidied up.

Personally I think she would look better in a medium Onyx, but thats just my personal taste talking.
Anyway awesome work, can't wait for the final results!

Looks all-around fantastic, the N7-Onyx texture of Shepard (visible middle-line aside) as well as the very heavy armour-texture (even though Janissary-gear was white-ish from what I remember, also seen here).
As for Brooks, that was something I brought up in Otte's thread. I'd say do go for it!

Well, we're getting closer to done over here. The main sticking point at the moment is Ashley. Her light's still not looking right (either no noticeable shine or glowing) and reboning her medium's taking ages. Despite her stubbornness, I'm still hoping to get a couple testing packages for the squad together this coming weekend. The Shepards are gonna take a bit longer, since I'm thinking to clone in some armors and I'm not sure how that will work out for the end user. Does texmod still hiccup on scanning modded files? I've managed a full scan including cloned pccs on my setup, but I dunno if it's the same for everyone. I suppose I could include a copy of my tree with the mod, if that'd work...
And I will definitely be including Brooks. She's gonna be in light Onyx for the default, but I just might include a few color options for her.
@Chashan: Yeah, that center seam on the Onyx...I can't find where it's coming from and therefore can't get rid of it. It's gonna be there for the duration, I think. Unfortunately.

And I just broke my game
I didn't lose anything important, but I gotta vanilla again. Yay setbacks. I'm still looking to get a set of heavy testers done for the squad this weekend once everything's up and running again.

Good luck with that, I know how frustrating it can be if you have to remod the entire game xD

Much arguing with my computer later, and I've fixed my game once again. Huzzah. ![]()
Anyway, I've got a test mod set up for people to try out if they like. This'll replace Kaidan, Liara, and Ashley's Collector's Edition (the recolors of their defaults), James' From Ashes (the bulky blue and black one), and femShep's Collector armors with heavy Onyx. If you just want female Shepard's armor, load both mods and remove everything but the lines that say HMF_ARM_SHP_R and FBDd. And a warning; Ashley's armor is (as of now) intended to be used with ele08's Ashley Legacy Project. With vanilla Ashley, her cleavage will be poking through the armor. I'm working on it, but until I get it working, she'll have some minor spillage happening...
Download the test mod and please let me know if they work! ![]()
