So obviously I know you need to do one of the main quests in order to trigger the event where you get him. but I'm wondering if this works as well:
In a playthrough I plan on doing, I want him with me during the Mage, Dwarf and Dalish Elf quest. However, I want to save Connor without using blood magic and sacrificing Isolde. So will playing Redcliffe up to that point, and then leaving to seek out the mages help trigger him? Or am I just screwed on that front?

That's the way I do it, and Zevran doesn't trigger. If you're on PC, there's probably a way to add him earlier via the console, but I've got no idea what sort of problems that would cause.

Ah well, thankfully Isolde kinda gets on my nerves, so I won't feel too bad about it. Thanks for answering my question.
I used Zevran ASAP mod at Nexus and had him for Broken Circle because I wanted to know what his dream in the fade would be. He certainly has one.
