Brouhaha in the Assembly after crowning Harrowmont

If you give the crown to Harrowmont then Bhelen will start a fight. According to the wiki, the number of hostile deshyrs is supposed to depend on how much support was garnered for Harrowmont.

In particular, the wiki says "If Harrowmont's Support only reached 0, almost everyone in the room is hostile".

That must refer to some strange definition of the phrase "almost everyone" which I wasn't previously aware of... When Fiona crowned Harrowmont with 0 support for him and 8 for Bhelen, six of the deshyrs went hostile while seven became allies. The steward just stood and watched the proceedings.

Does anyone know how and when the number of hostiles and allies is set by the game? I poked around in the toolset and farted around a bit with some old saves but got nowhere. Modifying the support values immediately before going to the Assembly did not change anything, nor did modifying them right before the Branka/Caridin fight. Should the setup occur upon entering the Anvil area then that would put a major crimp into experimentation...

Any ideas?

I usually support Harrowmont, but haven't noticed any difference in the number of hostiles.

It seems that the number of hostile and friendly deshyrs is fixed, at least on PC v1.05. I loaded saves for various characters, and the numbers were the same every time despite varying support.

Is the wiki info out of date, or does it apply only to some platforms but not to others?

It is not out of date. I just think this info was extracted directly from the toolset and it wasn't tested at all in-game.

Yep, I can see how this could happen in principle - there's quite a bit of dead wood in the scripts. However, I searched high and wide for the thing with the hostile deshyrs and other stuff related to the support scores, and I didn't find anything in the scripts where the scores were actually used for anything. That's why I guessed that earlier versions of the code may have been the source of the wiki info.

The support scores could be referenced outside of scripts by way of virtual ('defined') plot flags, though, like in conversations. Haven't found an effective way for checking that.

The support scores are stored as local integers ORZ_SUPPORT_BHELEN and ORZ_SUPPORT_HARROWMONT on the module object. There are virtual plot flags for probing the scores:

support >= 8:   ORZ_WFB_SUPPORT_IS_HIGH
support >= 6:   ORZ_WFB_SUPPORT_IS_MED

support >= 3:   ORZ_WFB_SUPPORT_IS_LOW

For Harrowmont it's WFH ('Working For Harrowmont') instead of WFB ('Working For Bhelen').

P.S.: Does the support garnered for either candidate have any effect whatsoever?

I don't think so. By the way, feel free to fix the wiki accordingly.

Fixing the wiki isn't quite as easy as it may seem.

Let's say I notice that Figor's special friends don't drop a fingerbone token, even though the wiki says they should. The fact that they didn't could be due to any number of reasons. It could be because I'm playing on PC instead of another platform, it could be because I'm patched up to v1.05, it could be because I killed them at the wrong time (although I tried both before and after booking the Jarvia task, as well as before and after talking to Nadezda), it could be I chose the wrong dialogue path, it could be because I'm working for the wrong candidate, whatever. Figuring out what's what with a reasonable degree of accuracy requires a lot of work, and even so I could speak only for one particular patch level on one particular platform. Hence I drop a note on the talk page, and move on.

Regarding the support scores and their apparent lack of ramifications: should the discussion here result in some information then I'll take care of the due diligence and amending the wiki. But so far we have little more than supposition.

Technically, I am as clueless as ever. No help on the actual mechanics; sorry.

However, a couple of my Mages were so perturbed by the entirety of events there and in general that we used Force Field on Harrowmont, and SotC on the remaining Assembly. They needed fresh eyes there anyway....

LOL, that's tough love.

I listed the scriptly clues in case one of the readers feels in a Sherlock Holmsy mood... ;)
