While I was watching the video about the Art of Mass Effect 2, they showed a number of concept pictures of the Illusive Man.

And something occurred to me while I was looking at these pictures.

The Illusive Man has eyes like Saren when he was "modified" by Sovereign.

That leads me to wonder if Sovereign had a Plan B.

If he learned about Cerberus prior to his defeat, what if he captured the Illusive Man, then converted him into a Indoctrinated Cyborg, then sent him back with nobody knowing anything had changed.

This way, if all else failed, the Reapers could use Cerberus to return from Dark Space.

That would be an interesting plot twist......

Indeed, or another Reaper. Makes sense that they would leave more then one behind just in case.

Its plausible, but the situation would be repetitive if it were true. Saren tried to side with the reapers to save lives. We know how that went. If the Illusive Man does the same, i'll be dissapointed.

I had to skip over your post OP because I realize I really don't want to be thinking about this kind of stuff yet. I'm saving what mystery I can so I can figure things like this out for myself in a few days.

I think we're all a little indoctrinated. Anyways, I doubt the reapers would do something as stupid as revive Shepherd, the only person who has ever messed up their plans before. Also, Indoctrination would make Illusive Man much less capable, yet he seems to be able to run his gazillion dollar organization just fine.

It wouldn't make sense for the Illusive Man to save Shepard in the first place, if he was. Then he sets him loose on the Collector's, agents of the Reapers.

That would make BioWare the Reapers...

Now THAT would be a plot twist.

That or the Reapers are the trees. (The Happening)

That is if the Collectors really are agents of the Reapers and not actually a big threat to their plans.

Shepard doing the dirty work of the Reapers? Naah, they'd never go for a plot twist like that...

They are; it's practically confirmed.

Nevertheless, it doesn't answer why Illusive Man had Shepard revived and sent to attack the Collector's. (If he was a Reaper)

I think illusive man is an AI. Theories of why and who made him are still on the writing boards of Bioware.

I think that TIM is someone who should have posted this thread in the "Spoiler Warning" forums.

Is it so hard for people to conceive that humans like the Illusive Man exist in reality, and they aren't indoctrinated, insane people?

There wasn't, nor is, any leader of any nation that doesn't think like the Illusive man does in many aspects. Do you really honestly believe that any politician doesn't have his hands dirty? True they don't do the things Cerberus has done, but thats not because they care about morality, its just they would only have things to lose if they did ( popularity being the biggest thing )

I think it's just to show that hes been modified like Shepard and Saren's upgrades.

As for your theory, If the Illusive Man was indoctrinated he wouldn't have revived Shepard and sent him to recruit a team for the suicide mission against the Collectors as they are servants of the Reapers.

Cyborg?

Yes.

Indoctrinated?

No.

Shepard has the same eyes, as well, if you go renegade, except Shep's glow an awesome red.

Can't really go into this TOO much in the non-spoiler forum, buuuut... Have you beaten the game?  Because the end makes it very very very clear that the collectors were working for the Reapers.

It could not have been more clear if the entire Bioware team came out of the aether in the end and informed Shepard of it.

He wants the base, not the reaper.  That's already destroyed by the time he contacts you.

Also, yes, major spoiler.  Probably shouldn't have been posted here.

The Illusive Man is a very shadowy fellow, I'm pretty much sure he's only serving his own interest, and he was going to betray Shepard eventually, so I'm good with the paragon ending.

It doesn't make sense for the reapers to revive their greatest enemy and then tell that enemy to destroy their own base.

UNLESS. There's a friendly reaper who doesn't agree with the other reaper's plans. This benevolent reaper wants to help shepard fight back the other reapers, but can't confront them directly due to numbers. That explains how we would fight back the reapers in ME3, because we will be given extra technology by the reaper to help us fight.

Heck, I'm calling it now, your ship in ME3 will be a friendly reaper. Your spaceship will be the illusive man.
