Because it sounds like they was a character race-restricted for the sake of being race-restricted, or because they want to have a specific character to a specific race because they plan to play that race.

I can reasonably speculate that Cassandra and Cullen will be straight because of their histories. Iron Bull has suggestions of being a bi/pan-sexual (sexually attracted to whoever). Varric might be bi but I do not know. Sera is confirmed lesbian, and the others I dare not touch until I have enough to make a reasonable guess.

Okay, I can see now why you were upset. Allow me to clarify something: From my point of view this thread is more about having fun while making wild guesses and not so much about reasonable speculations. A guess - for me, at least - is a prediction without sufficent information. As in: Guess who is coming to dinner. And that's probably why the OP wrote "I'm doing this for fun". So, I doubt it that anyone here wants a specific character to be race-restricted just for the sake of race-restriction. I, for instance, was really just guessing and I didn't put a lot of thought into that.

What are your predictions about the companions' sexual orientations? Aside from the romances we are already aware of, who else do you think is romanceable?

Beyond that, if you suspect there will be race restrictions, what do you predict will be said restrictions with each companion?

My predictions: (they could be totally wrong! I'm just doing this for fun...) [...]

Anders was always meant to be bi

I'm saying that both Anders and Kaidan indicated attraction to women primarily if not exclusively in previous games, yet in subsequent games they were available for both genders. There is no reason Varric can't be the same

I'm calling BS. Anders mentions a girl, once, and I don't think Kaidan ever exhibits a preference for females over males.

He had feelings for Rhana who was female and never mentioned a similar male crush. I agree though that remembering one more fondly than others does not mean you prefer that gender. It means you preferred that person.

Don't know why so many people predict Varric will be straight if he's a romance option, past games didn't stop Kaidan and Anders

It's a safer, more conservative guess, numeric-wise. That's why I'm guessing him as straight, but I wouldn't be bothered a bit if he's actually bisexual. (I'd actually prefer it from a symmetry standpoint. The Iron Bull can take humans and qunari, Varric take elves and dwarves, and life is much easer all around. )

No, you misunderstand. I'm not saying they had a preference, I'm saying they only or almost only spoke about being attracted to women.

I think it brings a sense of realism by giving them their own preferences and developing their character.

Why are people so confident Cassandra will be straight? What evidence exists that suggests Cassandra is attracted solely to men?

I think maybe we're all throwing the race-gating around a bit willy-nilly.  It might only be Iron Bull who is race-gated (regarding certain language used in his bio), but we're now madly prescribing racial preferences to all companions.

I don't think Bioware would take such a big leap from being wildly inclusive (DA2's player-sexuality) to a mishmash of exclusivity combos.  Fingers-crossed, anyways, as I don't envy the headache of piecing together who likes what race with which gender and whose in-game decisions...

I'd imagine that, if he's romanceable, Varric will also be race gated simply because he mentions not being into humans in DA2.

None, she gave one guy who showed interest in her a kiss on the cheek years ago, and when she called Hawke dueling the Arishok "romantic", it's Varric who makes a different interpretation depending on whether Hawke is male or female...calling it a crush if Hawke's male, or hero worship if she's female.

I really hope that she's bisexual, but I'll also admit that there's nothing conclusive either way, so far, shown about her sexual orientation.  Bisexual women can kiss men on the cheek, and bisexual women experience others making heteronormative assumptions about them.  I'll be waiting for the announcement on pins and needles, but I'm taking nothing for granted yet.

My predictions:

Cassandra - Straight
Scribbles - Bi
Sera - Gay (Confirmed)

Cullen - Straight
Dorian - Gay
Solas - Bi

Blackwall - No romance

Cole - No romance (confirmed)

Iron Bull - No romance (although maybe you could have a quickie/fling ala Jack in ME2)

Leliana - No romance (confirmed)

Varric - No romance (I think he's saving himself for 'Bianca')

Vivienne - No romance

I think it brings a sense of realism by giving them their own preferences and developing their character.

But the universe has demons, shapeshifting and magic. I don't see any reason to single out orientation in terms of realism. It's far less believable and "realistic" that people are hurling fireballs at each other than it is that ~6 or so people in a group happen to be bisexual.

What I want:

Everyone bi! Smorgasbord of romance! Stuff yourself (cough) with loving of every size, shape, and gender!

Okay, more seriously, what I want:

Cullen -- bi

Iron Bull -- bi

Blackwall -- gay

Varric -- straight

I wanted Sera for my f/f romance so don't mind what the other ladies are.

What I think will happen:

Cullen -- straight

Iron Bull -- bi

Dorian -- gay

Scribbles -- straight

Cass -- bi

Sera -- lesbian

For me, she fits there by process of elimination. I'm thinking there are only going to be three female LI, none will be restricted by race, one will be straight, one will be bisexual, one will be gay. Since Sera is confirmed gay, that leaves Cassandra and, more than likely, Scribbles. As an NPC, I think Scribbles has a more likely chance of being bisexual, so that some gamers aren't stuck with less companion choices than the rest. That leaves Cassandra for the straight LI slot.

But I probably am completely wrong. You add Vivienne in there, and it throws everything off.

I am, however, rolling over on previous thoughts and starting to wonder if Varric might not be a bisexual LI, but only for elves and dwarves. The Iron Bull is then the other bisexual LI, but he's only for humans and qunari. It probably won't end up as neat as that, but that's where my mind is currently at.

I wonder why Varric says he isn't into humans, if it's because of height then that seems to rule out Qunari and Elves, because aren't elves as tall or nearly as tall as humans since DA2?

Srsly I can understand why males were a bit disappointed when Sera was revealed to be a lesbian. It's not like they are hating on lesbians, and I think the rudeness towards straight men on here was pretty awful when she was revealed. You like someone IRl, they turn out to be not interested in your gender. It's disappointing. Done deal over.

Just wanted to take a moment to thank you for this sentiment.

For me it is more about the characters rather than the world they live in. Sexual preferences could come from different character backgrounds. Also, how the world reacts to that and how the characters deal with their sexuality shapes them (characters attitudes toward the world). I believe it allows a better character development. 'Though I didn't mind that all characters in DA2 were bi, I think a set orientation might be a good thing for the reasons I just stated.

I'd go for:

Straight: Cullen and Vivienne

Bisexual: Cassandra (all) and Iron Bull (Human and Qunari - unlikely to break)

Gay: Sera (all) and Dorian (not Qunari - being Tevinter and the problems they have with the Qunari)

Six would give it the most romances of any DA game.

Things that might effect romance (but could be overcome):

Cullen: Pro-Mage

Vivienne: standing against the Empress or anti-mage

Sera: evil characters

Iron Bull: pro-Demon and / or weak (perception of not being physically strong) characters (i.e. mages)

Dorian: anti-mage

Don't want Varric to be a romance. Like the idea of the best friend character (I thought femshep romancing Garrus didn't work as they worked best, in my head at least, as a Sharpe / Harper combo).

Chill out. We know very little at this point. Whether we choose to make educated guesses or uneducated guesses, at this point they're all just guesses. We won't know for sure until either the game or The Chart is released. So it doesn't really matter how close we guess. All you win is bragging rights; the end result of which romance options there are will be the same.

Why not? It's as good a way to pass the time as anything else.
