Lol...wat. Is sexual orientation like a factory setting?

If I meet a woman on the street, what is the likeliest thing that I will think? That she is cute, and is straight. Until she turns me down, she can't be a lesbian.

It doesn't matter what you're likely to think, because you can still be wrong. The bolded part is...problematic. That applies to video game logic, since devs are not going to put in an "eww gross" dynamic in the character creator that creates an arbitrary standard of beauty for companions, but that certainly does not apply to meeting someone on the street.

A fling? A kiss on the cheek? What's an affair for you, excessive hand holding?

Er... no she didn't. She kissed him on the cheek and smiled at him a few times. What exactly is your definition of a fling?

It was a kiss on the cheek.  If that constitutes a "fling," then I guess I had one with my male best friend when he came by last week.

Yeah, saw that one coming.

Did she? In that case, nevermind. I still think discouraging speculation about the possibility of Cullen and Cassandra not being straight is ridiculous, especially since sexuality is more complicated than small, isolated interactions that took place years ago.

But they are good pieces of evidence that can be used unless deliberately tossed aside for "what I think is true".

She had a "fling" with a male mage in Dawn of the Seeker.

It was a pretty chaste kiss on the cheek...

To assume all people are straight encourages the mindset that it's a willing choice or that those who aren't are an unwanted minority.

Likely/Possibly are used interchangeably here.

Well that's an incorrect usage of the words because "likely" implies that there is a higher probablility of something happening. In this case, that higher probability doesn't exist.

Quotation marks. I thought the entire film was a pretty stereotypical "opposites attract" kind of deal.

OR, What I said was an example of how a lack of evidence to the contrary can lead to a logical conclusion that MIGHT NOT be true. it is possible that they are bisexual, but until evidence or devs come in and say otherwise, all I have to go on in evidence that suggests heterosexuality to me.

Also as I said before, a bisexual woman showing affection to a man is still entirely within the realm of possibilities for a bisexual woman.

Honestly I am prepared for Bioware to say she's straight. I would be very dissapointed but thems the breaks. That being said though, I don't think there is any outstanding evidence pointing either way.

I think they should just release the damm chart already. Right now its only delaying the inevitable.

Yes, there will be tears, outrage, pain, sadness, blood -- but atleast it will be months before the release, which gives people time to move on and accept the way things are.

Well, if people automatically assume that liking someone=nothing, then they are not understanding attractions. Until more evidence of bisexuality comes in, it is more likely than not that Cullen and Cassandra are indeed heterosexual.

Irrelevant, because a peck on the cheek is not actually evidence of anything other than some kind of affection.

Which could stem from some romantic attraction. No one really knows, but it makes logical sense here.

You said a person can't be lesbian unless they shut you down. "Can't" isn't like those probably or likely scenarios; it's forbidding. It's why the justice system is required to assume innocence until proof is presented- it's unfair to speculate against someone.

Yeah, I've never claimed it as evidence that Cassandra is 100% straight. But DotS as a whole feels like something that should at least be considered.

I shouldn't have brought it up. It's like you guys have had practice with that one.

No, because there's no evidence of their heterosexuality. Cassandra pecking Galyan on the cheek 18 years ago and Cullen having a crush on a female mage 10 years ago is NOT evidence of heterosexuality.

draken-heart, please acknowledge the fact that Cassandra has demonstrated no romantic/sexual attraction towards anyone and stop including her in your heteronormative assumptions.

It'd also make for some quality entertainment from where I'm sitting.

I think that treating the characters that the writer's create with the same respect we'd (hopefully) treat a person with regardless of their sexuality is a fair point, and that respecting the character's autonomy in that is inherent to a solid player experience.

Diverse sexuality, building both from previous experience and embracing change likely over the decade Thedas has moved forward is a wise move.

I agree 100%. Especially with the first part. I think that the characters should be a lot more than just a mass of pixels that exists solely to fulfill the desires of the PC.

Yeah. It's disheartening to think someone thinks something has been "taken" from them because they can't squish virtual genderbits together in a game. What does that imply about what they think of people they're attracted to who don't return that affection? The "Friendzone" mentality is a dangerous and easy trap to fall into.

Oh, lord, don't get me started on the friendzone...

There's also a weird thing going on on the other side of the fandom that's embracing Sera's homosexuality. On tumblr almost all of the Sera posts since her sexuality was revealed have been "HAHA DUDEBROS SHE IS OURS!!!!!! CRY INTO THIS CUP SO I CAN DRINK YOUR TEARS". It's kind of scary. They chastise the others for making Sera a thing to have, but isn't saying "HAHA SHE'S OURS!!!" the same thing?

Tumblr is crazy.

Ah, my favorite guessing game

MALE ONLY

Dorian (that description about his relationship with his former master's son sounds more personal than on thinks)

Scribbles (according to DG, almost fanatical devotion to the Inquisitor)

FEMALE ONLY

Sera (romance and preference confirmed)

Cullen (romance confirmed, possibly race gated to humans and elves)

Varric (race gated to non-humans)

BOTH

Cassandra (romance confirmed, also confirmed to be a big sucker for romance, a trait I adore about our aggressive, battle-hardened seeker)

Iron Bull (race gated for qunari and dwarves, seeing as how friggin' sturdy both are)

Solas (I really hope he a romance, probably race gated to elves and qunari)

Vivienne (something about melting the ice queen's heart has a serious appeal to it)

Now that I'm done with this guessing game, let me just say if I can bang them all in one playthrough, by the Old Gods and the New I'd be unstoppable

Yeah, although, I mean, I guess I can see it, even if I think its distasteful. How many times have straight males gotten something that the LGBT community have been ignored over, then the LGBT community be told to "deal with it" or that they're "being difficult," only for a large portion of that same group do the exact same thing the one time the balance *might* shift to another group.

Still, it isn't very reasonable or mature.

I understand the spiteful feelings honestly. It is slightly hilarious that all of these straight guys are so pissed that she's gay when we barely even know anything about her character. They saw her and found her attractive and now they can't romance her as a male character. It is a bit satisfying having the majority on the other side of the fence for once, lol.

That being said, objectification is bad, mkay?
