I understand the spiteful feelings honestly. It is slightly hilarious that all of these straight guys are so pissed that she's gay when we barely even know anything about her character. They saw her and found her attractive and now they can't romance her as a male character. It is a bit satisfying having the majority on the other side of the fence for once, lol.

That being said, objectification is bad, mkay?

You mean I can't feel entitled to poke something with the sword of truthiness just because it's easy on the eyes? You are speaking nonsense now.

Yeah, although, I mean, I guess I can see it, even if I think its distasteful. How many times have straight males gotten something that the LGBT community have been ignored over, then the LGBT community be told to "deal with it" or that they're "being difficult," only for a large portion of that same group do the exact same thing the one time the balance *might* shift to another group.

Still, it isn't very reasonable or mature.

I wish we could all get along like we used to in middle school... I wish I could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat and be happy...

But really, I don't think anyone saying that or poking fun at the straight dudes mean any actual harm. And even if they did mean actual harm, it's a video game character...Haha

Oh, lord, don't get me started on the friendzone...

There's also a weird thing going on on the other side of the fandom that's embracing Sera's homosexuality. On tumblr almost all of the Sera posts since her sexuality was revealed have been "HAHA DUDEBROS SHE IS OURS!!!!!! CRY INTO THIS CUP SO I CAN DRINK YOUR TEARS". It's kind of scary. They chastise the others for making Sera a thing to have, but isn't saying "HAHA SHE'S OURS!!!" the same thing?

Tumblr is crazy.

It's not the same thing. Straight male gamers have been catered to for years by pretty much everyone, at the expense of LGBQ+ people, who are denied both recognition and representation on a regular basis. There's a certain satisfaction in having something completely to ourselves for once, especially when said straight men are so quick to throw hissy fits about it.

EDIT:

This is very important to consider whenever you come across anyone "being mean" to straight guys. It's, at most, venting.

Believe me I can understand that. I think what caused me to have a negative reaction was that I only saw the "LET ME DRINK YOUR TEARS" comments, but no dudebro hissy fits. I looked harder and found all the dudebro hissy fits and I agree with the feminist/LGBTQ sentiment, but I still just want to bake a happy cake and have everybody be happy...

Same thing, but if you can't get why someone might be elated to "win one" while their opponents, who haven't experienced the disappointment they're just now overcoming, are complaining, you might not be thinking of the situation objectively, either.

Tumblr honestly ain't that crazy, it just happens to be one of the few places on the internet where minority groups can flourish and share their thoughts and rants and it tends to freak out people of the majority who have never ever had to think about such things.

I don't consider it the same thing.

I still think it's bad, but I think it's bad because it's a group of queer women who still define queer female sexuality in relation to male desire.

Because they don't matter.

Quick analogy.

You have been playing tennis against the same guy for years. You finally win and you get all gloaty. You still look like tool, even though you may feel you deserve to gloat.

I'm seeing that now. I didn't have much experience with tumblr before recently so I was not expecting all the outrage. I just went in thinking I'd find game info, fanart, and porn...

Just as a note, intentionally trying to derail a thread to get it closed is spam.  It also gives me motivation to ensure you aren't rewarded for those actions, and I will actively attempt to clean the thread (if possible) rather than close it.

For everyone, please try to not engage a poster if you feel they are intentionally trying to derail a thread, and use the report system instead.  Thank you.

The dudebros have just as much right to complain as the LGBT do. Whats gonna happen if cassandra is announced as straight? A lot of those people gloating about sera being s/s will be whinging like the dudebros are with sera.

I actually think Tumblr is pretty great. Some like to paint it as some sort of social justice zealotry hellhole, but I find it to be one of the most satisfying sites to use for a blog. The fact that minority groups are so vocal there is nothing but a good thing, as far as I'm concerned.

Not so much. I am very pro Cass as bi and if she's not I wouldn't complain just like I didn't gloat about hearing the news of Sera being gay.

You know, you would have a point if you were talking about sports rather than oppression and lack of representation.

No, because there's no evidence of their heterosexuality. Cassandra pecking Galyan on the cheek 18 years ago and Cullen having a crush on a female mage 10 years ago is NOT evidence of heterosexuality.

What do years have to do with sexuality?

Of course they have a right to complain. That doesn't make them any less whiny and entitled.

If Cassandra is straight, LGBQ+ people who were hoping for her being bi will probably be disappointed, but will not have the same thought processes and motivations behind their reactions as straight guys. This is just going off how I personally would react, and what I know about my own community, but obviously no one has been confirmed as straight yet, so there's no way to be sure of anything.

For some, sexuality is fluid. Other than than, such minor things, so long in the past, seem more insignificant with that much time between the events and the "present."

It takes some LGBQ+ people years to figure out their sexuality. I went from thinking I was straight, to bi, to gay, and then back to bi over the course of a decade or so.

I didn't really want to get into this again, but okay.

Time has a lot to do with sexuality. It evolves over time, just like people's ideas and views and beliefs change over time. Five years ago, I didn't think I was bisexual. I had crushes on girls. Those crushes on girls didn't make me any less into men. Cassandra's possible infatuation with a man almost two decades before we meet her doesn't mean that she is only into men. She could have only had crushes on men back then, but over time discovered that she liked the tuna taco just as much. In the ten years since Origins, Cullen could have discovered that he has feelings for other guys. Things happen in large numbers of years.
