If you don't mind me asking, what's the logic behind that?

It's mostly heteronormativity. Even gay people can have problems with it, since a lot of people assume straight is a default setting or that bisexuality isn't real. There is a lot of problem with bisexual erasure within the gay community also, which is something I wish more gay people would speak out against.

Why do I have a feeling you probably know an inordinate amount of "lesbians"?

Sick burn, lol.

My guesses:

Cassandra - bi - just cos

Blackwall - not a romance - seems to conflict with his sense of duty

Iron Bull - bisexual - cos the interview says "anything" that won't break

Varric - straight - cos there's evidence he likes women, and none that he likes men

Sera - gay - cos it is known

Cole - not a romance - cos he's got the mind of a child

Dorian - gay - cos we need a gay dude and I'd rather him than Solas

Solas - bi - just cos

Viviene - straight? Tho if she's bi, I would change Cass to straight.

Cullen - straight - cos he wasn't obsessed with male mage warden

Leliana - not a romance - cos she was in DA:O

Scribbles - no idea.

I have no idea where that leaves things for the sake of equality tho. Throw in some racial gates tho and it'll probably work out. Maybe.

Generally, LGQ+ people who are biphobic want to appeal to straight people in the hopes that they'll accept them more if they don't deviate too far from the norm. It's the same thing with truscum and trans people.

What is "truscum"?

I was just thinking... so you can either be gay, straight, or bi right? It's 2 sides of the same coin, romancing a guy or a girl. What if the race gates extend to EVERY LI. Because if you think homosexuality locks certain inquisitors out of the romance, wouldn't heterosexuality do the same?

Am I making sense?

Trans people who think you have to have dysphoria to be trans. They're fond of policing people's identities and mocking non-binary people, in a manner similar to cis people. Basically, they imitate cis people so as to gain their approval.

Going to disagree here. Biphobia may be a product of heteronormative culture, but it's often part of a larger desire to reject straight culture. You'll see far more anti-bi sentiment in radical and separatist lesbian circles than you will among more conformative groups.

To some degree this is true, but monogamy (and by extension, monosexuality) are one of the things the heteropatriarchy is based on. Some gay and lesbian monosexuals view their queerness as a rebellion of sorts, but bisexual people take it too far in their eyes, as evidenced by the promiscuous-bisexual-who-is-prone-to-cheating stereotype.

I think the real reason bisexual women are rejected by lesbians is because stereotypes about bisexual people being confused tend to revolve around attraction to men (bi women are straight, bi men are gay), meaning, to their minds, multisexual women are betraying their queerness, especially if they end up in long-term relationships with men.

The solution I've found, hilariously enough, is that if you are bi and experiencing a lot of biphobia from straight or gay people, go find other bi people to date. Seems obvious but a lot of people don't even consider it.

This definitely. As a bi person, it took me a pathetically long time to figure out that gay men and straight women aren't my only options.

All I'm going to say is I really wish Dorian will be the gay love interest. He's so dreamy.

So... Here are my 2 cents (euro cents, mind you!)

* I highly doubt there will be more straight romances than gay romances. Equal opportunities for genders and sexual orientation has been reiterated as something important by several devs. I can see having more bi romances than either gay or straight, but of course that is not necessarily the case.

* Cullen has been heavily implied to be romanceable by females (for example in this interview), this does not mean he will not be a bi romance. In fact I believe that is very likely.

* I do not think Solas would be bisexual. I think BioWare would not want to make one more bisexual elf.

* Cole would definitely not be a romance. This has been all but confirmed here.

* All this talk about Dorian being gay just because of his 1970's pornstache makes me wish he weren't gay.

* In light of what we leaarn about Varric in chapter 2 of "Until We Sleep" I'll be astonished if he's a LI. At most I think we're going to play Hawke to his Aveline.

I want Dorian to be gay because I find him attractive, tbh.

Not sure. It's late where I am. LOL. I think you might confuse sexuality with race-restrictions. But yeah, it doesn't matter if a character is heterosexual or homosexual, certain Inquisitors would be out of the running. That's why some users prefer bisexual characters. This way no Inquisitor would be excluded.

As for the race restrictions:

With regard to MCG's previous comment on page 1 of this thread, I thought a bit more about my list.

They're not going to make the only same-sex companions exclusive to one race, I'm pretty damn sure.

To "limit" a character in a way that he/she is ony available for one sex and one race might be a bit problematic. So, I would like to revise some points on my list:

Blackwall - Female only (Human, Elf, Qunari, Dwarf)

Sera - Female only (Elf) --> (all)

Cullen - Female only (Human & Elf)

Dorian - Male only (Human) --> (all)

Cassandra - Male only (Human, Elf, Dwarf or Qunari)

Scribbles - Male only (Human & Elf)

Vivienne - Bisexual (Human or Elf)

Varric - Bisexual (Dwarfs) --> I'm sticking with this

Iron Bull - Bisexual (Qunari, Human, Elfes)

Solas - not an option

Cole - not an option

I'm really not sure about Vivienne. She seems to be a bit power-hungry so she might get involved with anyone who might be useful to her, including a dwarf or a Qunari.

What are your predictions about the companions' sexual orientations? Aside from the romances we are already aware of, who else do you think is romanceable?

Beyond that, if you suspect there will be race restrictions, what do you predict will be said restrictions with each companion?

My predictions: (they could be totally wrong! I'm just doing this for fun...)

Varric - straight (dwarf)

Blackwall - no romance

Iron Bull - no romance

Solas - no romance

Cole - no romance

Dorian - gay (human)

Cullen - bisexual (human, elf, dwarf, qunari)

Cassandra - bisexual (human, elf, dwarf, qunari)

Vivienne - no romance

Sera - gay (elf)

Scribbles - straight (human, elf, dwarf)

Leliana - no romance

------------------------------------

These are just my guesses! What are yours?

Mine goes something like this:

Varric - straight (dwarf, human, elf)

Blackwall - no romance

Iron Bull - Bi (Qunari, human)

Solas - Straight (all races)

Cole - no romance

Dorian - gay (human, elf)

Cullen - Straight (human, elf, dwarf )

Cassandra - bisexual (human, elf, dwarf)

Vivienne - Straight (Human, elf, dwarf)

Sera - Lesbian (Human, elf)

Scribbles - Bi (All)

Leliana - no romance

I'm pretty sure the inquisitor regardless of race would be pretty useful to her, power wise. You are going to end up building a  huge base of power and seeing your banners go up over ferelden and orlais after all.

I want Dorian to be bi because they made that man too handsome.

He is literally the only DA LI that I have been actually excited to romance based on appearance alone.

Dorian is the best choice for gay companion, imo. Iron Bull's bio implies bisexuality unless he considers one gender too fragile (problematic). Solas - two gay elves? Blackwall has the thing with the calling, it would be a shame if the only gay companion thus far also has the shortest time left.

If Dorian were bi, nobody interested in romancing the fellas would be "stuck" with IB, see?

I really hope that isn't true, I don't want to be stuck with 'Iron Bull' as a romance only seeing as I'm playing as gay male Qunari personally.

A male dwarf romanced by Iron Bull would really be "stuck"

Why is Dorian flamboyant?  Because he has one picture with the dramatic hands?  That seems like a bit of a stretch to me.

Moustaches are crazy flamboyant

Fridged girlfriends/wives and NPCs pining after them until the player comes along with their power of Sexual Healing are like, a staple of game (and movie) romances. It hardly rules Varric out as an option.

But not out of line. It isn't as though the Tragic Romance With Cancer Krepal's Syndrome Spirit of Justice Taking OverThe Calling hasn't been done before. Better than the Dead Past Son Wife Lover trope.

I would still romance Blackwall... either way.

I don't think you should discount Blackwall as an LI. He lights up a lot of Bioware's past romance tropes.

You mean it's a trope (with a deep mysogynistic undertones). Which is why I doubt BioWare will opt for it.

I think you're looking for "frigid" there. If you have a fridged girlfriend/wife you may be a serial killer. ;)
