I know I'm going to be making an male inquisitor just for him if he's not!  And I don't really like playing in a male pc where I'm not required to.

I am planning the same thing. But I am kinda wanting a female messy haired scrubby looking freckled rogue smooching the crap out of Dorian.
Or maybe a qunari mage because the demo has me shipping that so hard too.

But if I have to play a guy... scruffy looking nerf herder rogue to snuggle Lando Calrissean. YUUUP.

There is nothing saying that Cass and Cullen couldn't have ... uh expanded their horizons since the last time they showed interest in someone sexually (Origins and the anime) but I would say that C(2) are pretty safe bets as straight at the very least. Cass has a better chance at being bi than Cullen because something wants me to say they're not going to make both of the NPC romances (Scribe Girl) bi.

BOOO I think Cullen has a good chance of being bi because he's an NPC :P Randomly making him straight for no reason would be silly imo. #NotBiased #NotAtAll

I figured he was gay because we know Cullen isn't because he had an interest in a female mage in origins.  Since I think that IB and Dorian are the other romance options, I figure they wouldn't make the Qunari be a male exclusive romance.  And he seems to react romantically (imo) towards Alexius, though he still can be bi (if he's a romance at all).

I didn't see that reaction in Dorian in the demo, just seemed angry. =)

It's not random since he didn't have an interest in the male mage Warden in Origins... but maybe he just wasnt his type. hehe

Yeah, I definitely don't think Cullen is gay because of his interest in Amell/Surana, but he he could still be bisexual.  Anders seemed straight in Awakening because he never expressed an interest in men, but he was bisexual ultimately, so you never know.

:crying: Don't make me cry! I'm honestly so scared lol I get anxious and depressed just thinking about this game and whether or not my character can romance him. Sigh. It was such a crushing blow, the set sexualities announcement. Been a Cullen fan for years, and then... this.

My guess:

Spoiler

Oh, I really like this one! It's rather close to my (current) guess. I believe guesses that have lots and lots of race-gating are probably going to be mostly incorrect in the end. Instead, I'm thinking it's going to be more adding extra, limited romances. Like with Sebastian in DA2--he was an extra romance, and he was only available to lady Hawkes. I'm thinking it's going to be similar to this.

Here's mine (which I am already second-guessing after looking at Finnn62's ):

As I said before, What does the "gut" say? That she is an elf and therefore should only be available to female elves.

Yes. And for the same reason I think that Varric might be interested in dwarfs only. But don't read anything into it. Also, MCG's earlier statement made me think that I am probably wrong.

They're not going to make the only same-sex companions exclusive to one race, I'm pretty damn sure.

Because that ^ would make total sense.

This is why everyone needed to be bi. =( I kinda hate this. I am anxious about Dorian and you're upset about Cullen. I DON'T LIKE IT.

Didn't they say that not everyone is race gated? So there's probably someone of each gender who will date you regardless of race.

We do know that some races will have more romance content than other races though!

Not to be a party pooper, but if I were to guess the two races that will likely be gated the most are the Qunari and the Dwarfs. The humans and elves will likely be pretty universal.

-slowly tilts head- I usually only read these for giggles but I have a question; Some race gating was actually confirmed?

I think it was hinted by one of the developers - probably David Gaider- that there might be race restrictions.

Found it (scroll down):

Yes. There is no guarantee that a particular gender/race combination will have as many romantic prospects as another.

And that's fine. Romance options are not candy to be dispensed fairly and evenly, and if there's a particular character that you've decided before the game is released that you must romance, it's advisable you play a different PC. The most we can do (and have done) is ensure that there's no overall slanting towards a particular group-- it's all over the map, for various reasons.

And here is some more:

Worrying about the distribution between male and female players, and one of them feeling like content geared at them was an afterthought, I am fine with. Worrying about a distribution amongst sexualities, and making it so that gay or bisexual players don't feel they won't have choices, I am also fine with. Worrying about "players who like playing dwarves" or "players who like playing humans" or whatever other races, that I'm not as concerned about. Which is why I'm saying you will have options, but you may not have the same number of options depending on what race you select.

It's fine if someone doesn't like that idea. Some folks, we're quite aware, aren't happy that romances are being gated at all and would prefer to have all romances available to all PC's. I would suggest not panicking just yet, as not all romances are even race-gated and the options have not all suddenly dried up as someone might fear, but I suppose until and unless they learn otherwise they can justifiably choose to be pessimistic. Maybe we'll put up the chart (yes, there's actually a chart) at some point, and having said information will make you feel better before you play the game, but that's not really my decision.

You're probably right, but I'm not going to accept that until I see it confirmed

It'll hopefully not be as extreme as it sounds, hopefully all humans will be open to all races as if they're not it kinda comes across as in-game racism. Other races such as the Qunari and Dwarfs I understand more-so being gated (particularly IB and Varric).

I'm pretty sure racial restrictions, if any, will be limited to qunari and dwarves. They're not going to go further than that.

No, that's why I used the words "hinted" and "might" ;).
