Not a fan of any gates when it comes to romances. Everyone has their own tastes and the chances that you will fall in love with a character is slim enough without gating them off.

Obviously we won't know anything for sure until the game launches but in my head 3 options is better than 2 and 4 options is better than 3. *shrug*

My theory is this.

Cassandra - Bi

Cullen - Straight

Dorian - Gay

Solas- Bi

Sera - Gay

Blackwall - Straight

Scribe girl - Bi

Iron Bull - Bi (probably Qunari exclusive)

This would be my preferred outcome. I hope you are right.

Is the fact that sexual orientation is largely inconsequential to society evidence that it's also inconsequential to interpersonal interactions and relationship dynamics?  I personally don't think so, though things might manifest differently than we would expect.

I don't think they need to bring it up as a negative, but honestly I like it better when it is recognized by my LI as well as other party members that both characters are women, just so the romance is not identical to the straight counterpart (if they are bi)

I guess different stroke for different folks, unless you date both a guy and a girl before, I don't think you can speak from experience. I have, and there are subtle differences in how the relationship dynamics are.

Whom I've dated is irrelevant - gender roles are pervasive, and will necessarily influence relationships, but I don't see why they need to be replicated in-game. We should be working towards breaking those stereotypes, not taking them as a given.

If most people in Thedas don't care, I don't see a reason why there needs to be any changes other than animation adjusting and simple things like pronoun changes.

I disagree.  The people in a relationship are always going to adopt different roles within that relationship.  That isn't an inherently negative state of affairs and it doesn't necessarily have to be overcome, either by us or by characters in our fiction.

I personally find games need to have grounds in reality, especially now that they added sexual orientations and race restrictions. No offense, but you can't apply your point of view on how bi people go through their relationship, and I would prefer for the game to represent a more realistic view of a bi person in a romance rather than a "playersexual" relationship they had so far. The dynamic is inherently different, it's not at all about sexism but about recognizing the differences in the role of each gender play in a relationship, and it's not necessarily heteronormative dynamics either.

I don't see why those "roles" need to be based on the genders involved, especially when so many people assume that heteronormative roles need to be present, even in a gay relationship.

Yes, but the "roles" adopted shouldn't be gender-based. There's no "man" in an f/f relationship, and no "woman" in an m/m relationship.

Because then it begins to seem like they're just throwing us a bone (lightening the mood a bit hereinstead of actually trying in earnest to equally represent different players.  I

I hope that with the next game, Bioware will announce all the LIs at the same time. And not one, one day, another one another day, etc.

Options for gay males: 3(3 companions, 0 NPCs)

Not fair for all parties, thus disapprove.

First of all, I'm also bi, so stop acting like you have more authority than I do when it comes to bisexual relationships.

Secondly, adhering to gender roles is not a given in bisexual relationships, especially if those gender roles aren't even the same in Thedas as they are in the real world. Gender roles are restrictive and damaging, and BioWare should not be encouraging characters to fulfill them just because some people aren't willing to challenge them. People are people first and foremost.

Or they could leave us completely in the dark and have us go through trial-and-error.

In all seriousness though, how many LIs did they reveal for DAO and DA2? Did they also reveal their sexualities? Weren't most people surprised to find out that they were all romanceable by male and female Hawkes?

They revealed all 4 both times before the game was released.

So include Vivienne as straight and then it evens out more.

They revealed all of them before the games were released, but only featured the straight versions in marketing. I think we found out the bisexuality in DA2 from data mining the demo. This was also how Steve's romance was found, from datamining. Had they not been datamined it's very possible that no one would have found out before either the game was released or someone who had simply played the game earlier than release spilled the beans.

Even Sera's sexuality wasn't supposed to be known this early before release. For some reason marketing seems nervous about revealing gay romances ahead of time.

DA2's were released on Valentines Day, less than a month before the game came out. So we may be waiting until September if not longer.

Ok, should have said so in the first place, would have avoided some confusions.

What you want in a relationship is not necessary what I want or do in a relationship as a bi person, so I would appreciate for my point of view to be represented. If you think your relationship with male and female is the same then good for you, but it's not the same as what other bi people going through. Your personal value may see it as damaging, but for me, it's about recognizing the differences in bi relationship that happen in real life everyday. I love me some crusade against heteronormative point of view, but this is about how I and many people see a bi relationship. I don't think it's fair for you or anyone to dictate how Bioware should portray it.

This is probably why they have no intention of releasing a demo this time around, lol.

Also I don't blame them for being nervous, seeing as so many people got so upset.

Make Cullen bi and remove a bisexual male companion and then it is even across the board.

You could say the same thing about her point of view though so keep your snark to yourself.
