Hannah's post was certainly a great read, and I am absolutely delighted that she's making such an investment in her, and that she's sharing that with us... but I don't want others to feel as if they must do the same. I won't lie. I liked reading it. But everyone roleplays differently, and other approaches are just as correct. There are many ways to tell a story.

Just pitching in my 2 bits as someone who likes reading all kinds of stories. :)

Feel free to poke around wherever you like in that shared folder. I've tried to keep the spoilers to a minimum. There is an area list for the mod areas, but that isn't going to tell you much.

And don't be put off by Beldin's 97-page personal history (ok, it's really 6). It helps me write him consistently, even if it never shows up in The Dalish Curse or any other mod.

Hey Berelinde.. feeling dumb right now but I'm confused as to what happens now? Are we supposed to do anything else now that we know the wolves are attacking first? Should we be rolling attacks or anything?

Sorry... new to the whole PbP thing...

We're waiting for Mahumia. Once she posts (I think it's she...), we'll move on the the next round and everyone will get a chance to attack.

No worries! How were you to know we were jumping right into a combat encounter?

Ahaha, the dwarf has the highest initiative? I love it. While these long legged humans are back here thumbing their noses, she's getting busy!!

So Berelinde, does this mean Mahumia has to do back to back posts so we can go in order of initiative?

Here's my dumb question for the evening: Does the high roll go first, or the low one?

#oldschool ? :P

Bramblefae, I know *exactly* what you mean. I've been playing DnD since 1976, and it's taken me ages to get past that.

High roll goes first. It's considered a Dexterity(Initiative) test, so high roll wins the test.

Ok. I was just making sure. :D

Sorry, Chachi, I missed your question earlier.

Yes, Mahumia has to post next. Otherwise, we'll wind up having to edit posts if somebody gets knocked prone.

Which reminds me, there's a stunt called "Seize the Initiative" (worth 4 stunt points) that puts the attacker at the head of the combat order. I don't care what it says in the rule book. I am not making 5 players reroll their attacks because the 6th person rolled doubles. If you use "Seize the Initiative," you will attack first NEXT round and any rounds thereafter, not in the present round.

Just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying everyone's characters! :D No pressure to write much or little... what's great is the diversity and creativity that's being show here. I look forward to getting to know them better. :)

Just a quick heads up. Tessa is next, and then Rael. Beldin's on his ass, and I pretty much covered his actions during the wolf attack, so we may as well keep it moving.

Quick question for you guys.

So far, the only person who's being attacked is Beldin, so I can write out the combat where he is the target however I want, but eventually, enemies are going to attack other members of the party. Do you want me to write it out for your characters the way I do for him or would you prefer to write it out yourselves? If you would like to choose how each creature attacks you and where they bite/stab/pummel you (I can already imagine Etienne saying, "Not the face! Not the face!), I *could* simply post the rolls, whether it succeeds or fails, and how many health points you lose (if any).

I'll go with whatever the majority decides, but I would rather do all or nothing on this one. I don't want to try to remember which players prefer to write their own combat or which ones want me to do it.

I could do with both, but I would slightly prefer to write the combat myself. The response of the character is a bit 'personal' for me, as otherwise it would be more like watching a show instead of participating myself. No big deal though :)

I don't have a preference. Whatever works for everyone!

Dang, Berelinde, you got Etienne all figured out.

Etienne: *covers head* Nor my beautiful hair~

I think I'd prefer to write out my own combat, but do you think we should be able to choose where they get attacked? (Etienne is yelling at me to shut my mouth.) I could see you rolling and telling us a body part and the injury, then us playing out the gory details.

I pretty much agree with Chachi. I'd like to write my own combat (if only so the fight makes sense in my own head heh), but I don't know that we should have so much control over where attacks connect and that sort of thing.

I can do that!

It seems that we have a winner! I will post the approximate attack target (leg, arm, head, etc) and the rolls, and you can fill in the details. Which is great! It's actually a lot easier for me to do it that way, but I didn't want to pressure you one way or another. :)

If you want to make it even more complicated, remember that the injury does not technically have to come from the enemy's weapon. Usually, it will, but you might want to mix it up every once in a while to add variety. A character who's knocked down and hits her head on a rock sustains damage.

So, two new items on the agenda.

There are going to be times when we're going to be AFK for a while, but not long enough to merit a post in the Vacation thread. Since we're posting combat in the order of attack, this might create bottlenecks.

If combat is underway and you think you might be away for a day or two, you can always write it out in advance and send it to me in a PM. I'll post it when it's your turn and only PM you if the attack order changes or if another character's actions necessitate changes to your post. This could potentially cause more work in rare incidences, but it may be a viable option if you expect to be away for several days. It's entirely up to you, and you can do it on a case-by-case basis, so no pressure.

The other thing is more fun. As I've said some 40 or 50 times before, I'm turning the adventure into a mod, and I'm creating areas as we go. That means that a lot of the time, I'll be able to put your characters in the screenshots. You've all posted images of your characters, so I can create head morphs for them (if I haven't already), but that still leaves the choice of costume. Your choices include anything from the vanilla game as well as anything from Loincloth Fashions, Kirkwall Exports, Kirkwall Emporium, and The Witcher Emporium. I'm thinking that Tessa will probably opt for regular, level-appropriate armor and that Lorien19 seems to have a preference for the Chasind-style robes for Laurelin, but your choices need not be that limited. Why not Champion Rogue Armor for Etienne? It's mostly red, and it has pants. Or Tallis's ensemble for Rael, and anything looks better than the default leather armor for Bartha (I would go with one of the Witcher styles myself). I'm kinda stuck for Tempest, but there are a lot of mods to look through. Or Tevinter-style robes with a blue theme might work. I have *some* ability to recolor existing textures. The ability to do that is a little limited, though. The color scheme has to exist in the game, so I can make most vanilla clothing models red-and-yellow by going with the Senior Enchanter color scheme or silver and light blue by going with the Silverite Weapon color scheme, but I can't make anybody's clothing purple and green (but purplish maroon and red is available). Yes, solaas, there is a greenish and gold color scheme, but it isn't as vivid as you might like, and I can't recolor mod models, only vanilla textures (and heavy armor is sometimes exempt).

Anyway, have a look at the available styles and tell me what you'd like. If I haven't made a morph for your character already, I'll send you a screenshot to approve the character prior to using it.

That reminds me, random question. Not meaning to cause any trouble for my little darling, but what all emotional factors should we take into consideration when in combat? Like, for example, if there's some young kid out on the field who probably hasn't seen just a whole lot of blood, could I maybe throw in a check to see if he's going to get freaked out and revisit last night's wine and fancy cheese?

(Note to self: Meli, your Call of Cthulhu is showing~)
