The example combat thread is up. Take a look, just to see what options are open to you.

DON'T PANIC!

We'll work through the whole thing once together. And it's absolutely OK to make mistakes. Do-overs are allowed, especially while we're all learning, or they can be ignored, if they aren't too big a deal.

We'll get started just as soon as everyone posts their characters.

So far, we've got characters from solaas and from Chachi. If anybody else needs help with character creation, please send me a PM so we can set up a character-building session. It took Chachi and me about an hour. I'll probably start poking people on Saturday.

And I can even help people with rolling up some of this, like the stats, money, HP, etc. That stuff is pretty straight forward. And I'm online a lot of the day, so maybe that will help?

I will post him soon; I'll just be copying a lot of stuff over anyway. I want to try to make him in Dragon's Dogma though because the CC is so good.

What's Dragon's Dogma?

A Japanese-style CRPG. I can't say much about the story because I've never played it, but I've seen YouTube videos of the character creator. It's amazing!

Sadly, the character creator for both DA games leaves something to be desired. The DAO toolset is amazing, and that's where I've been creating the faces for the NPCs you'll encounter, but that doesn't help you much.

*screams* I am so excited to start! Can't wait for you guys to meet Auren, and for HIM to meet all your awesome characters, too!

I have no idea what to expect, but I'm excited nonetheless

We started the tabletop incarnation of this adventure tonight, and my gaming group is enjoying the new system. We're all ye oldtyme DnD'ers, so the roleplaying part isn't anything new, but I was anxious that they might be too set in their ways to adapt to a new system. Everybody did fine.

I'm going to start a "Background" thread within the next few moments. It's a kind of pre-game thread for background info and pre-game role-playing. Anyone who has posted a character bio may participate, but please be sure that it's strictly role-playing. Get to know your fellow party members. Don't attack anybody, loot the guest rooms of the inn, or otherwise do anything where you might have to roll some dice. I'll be in and out of it as I can throughout the week, posting snippets of rumors and ambient dialogue that you hear.

OMG, I'm so excited. This is ridiculous. I should not be so happy.

Have faith. Would I really leave you with no opportunity to ply your trade before launching you into the thick of it?

Must ask forgiveness to everyone in advance - Etienne is going to start the game off as sort of a martian. This is his first trip out of the tower and he's mostly going about it alone. So please just... be prepared.

I expect Laurelin to be like that as well, when it comes to other people! She's going to ask a lot of questions about it, if she get's the chance, due to her insatiable curiosity.

A bit of clarification, since there is bound to be some confusion over this. Tarl Dale is the village warden, with a little W. If he were older, he'd be the village elder, but he's not, so he can't be that. If Vintiver were bigger, he'd be the mayor, but it isn't so he can't be that either. So, the adventure module uses the term "warden" and I am too. Unlike a Grey Warden which is a proper noun and capitalized everywhere, village warden is a title, and it's only capitalized when it's used as a form of address.

Edit: And we'll use the honor system for deciding what people do and don't know about the rumors. If a character has been staying at the inn for a week, they'll have heard the rumors. If the character has been staying at the inn for the week but retires to their room, they'll have heard the rumors, but if anything exciting happens in the common room, they miss out.

Btw, are we using posting order in the open thread? Or at least "don't go buckwild and dominate the thread but say something when the time is right" posting order?

We're doing open RP at the moment, so posting order isn't really important. I'll probably be spamming the thread heinously with rumors about and images of the village personalities. So right now, it's a playground post what you want (but as you say, don't go buckwild and post 15 in a row).

Once we get into actual gameplay, even roleplaying segments will probably reflect the actions of other player characters, so when the gameplay thread goes up, please give everyone a chance to respond before making a second post.

With that in mind, please make an effort to post to the thread within a few days of each plot post or drop an AFK in the OOC thread. Some people may want to expand their RP for that segment, and it isn't fair to make them wait.

There are some really cool things happening in the "Background and Pre-Game RP" thread!

It sounds as if there are two potential joint post/private RP requests underway.

In the first, it seems as if Tess is inviting Auren and/or Laurelin to join her for dinner and conversation. Laurelin has accepted the invite. They could RP it out in the game thread itself, but that might become confusing if more isolated conversations interrupt them. It might be better for them to take it to PM or Skype and RP it out privately and then post the result as a joint post. If they decide to go this route, one or the other of the players should drop a line here to let the other players know that their characters are involved in some private RP and are temporarily busy.

In the second, Etienne responds to some rumors that piqued his interest, opening up the possibility of private RP with a GM-controlled NPC. If I judged that the RP opportunities here were done (the NPCs were on their way out the door when they said it) or if I knew I wouldn't have time to participate in a joint post, I would post a reply in the game thread to close the subject. I'd probably elaborate on the rumor or provide a summary of any additional information obtained. But it would probably be more fun to play it out, especially here where the gossip is juicy and the consequences of misinformation are low. I'm not going to have time for any RP on skype or via PM today, but I will have time tomorrow (PM is probably better than skype). If this is okay with Chachi, we can roleplay it out and post the result when we're done. If tomorrow isn't good for her, or if I'm mistaken about her intentions, she could just say "Can't do it. Do I learn anything useful?" and we could move on. If I knew that I wouldn't have time for several days, I would not leave her hanging, because she might want to move on to something else.

I am all for RPing this out privately with Laurelin and Auren, doing it through PM would work best for me :) I await word here from those two. :D

So then, question. Two private convos are about to take place, but some characters haven't made their entrance yet. At what point is it too late for someone to ask if their character can join in a specific convo? And is there any way that we can notate that point, like making a hold post?
