So are you wanting both ambient dialogue as well as conversation stuff?

Yeah, that's probably best. The mod is short, so opportunities for camp dialogue are really, really limited. "Ambient" dialogue may be the only opportunity the player has to connect with your characters.

It doesn't have to be just

Etienne (upon finding Borren): "Ew, I think I'm going to be sick."

It can be, though! Or it could be something that solicits player input.

Etienne (upon finding Borren): "Maker... I can't..."

1 "What's wrong?"

2 "If you're going to throw up, don't do it on me."

3 " Pull yourself together."

E1 I've never seen a dead body before. And he looks like the Circle's latest apprentice....

E2 Right... excuse me for a moment...

E3 I'm trying!

It could even be longer than that if you want, but I think you get the idea. If it works for your character, it works for me.

Finished my post, sorry for delaying a bit.
Unfortunately my computer is more damaged than we thought,so it will take a few more days, before it's finally repaired, which is kind of a bummer.
I'll start working on dialogue as soon as I get it,though.

This is Beldin's Keltin interjection, if anybody is curious.

Just so you know, each corpse is set up with an "examine" site, which initiates dialogue with the player. At the moment, they all follow this format "(You've found the remains of a male human in his late twenties. Based on Kesla's description, this might have been Keltin, the Fuldor's farmhand.)" and then something about the claw marks. Whatever interjections you write, they would fire after this line. This allows me to set plot markers for finding the corpse. There are no limits to how many interjections can fire, but there would need to be a certain order to them, i.e. in a party composed of Bartha, Tempest, and Tessa, the same character would always speak first, then the second, and then the third. It's a flowchart.

Dialogue line

Q: Bartha present?

Yes? Go to 1.

No? Go to 2

1 Bartha speaks (go to 2)

2 Tempest present?

Yes? Go to 3

No? Go to 4

3 Tempest speaks (go to 4)

4 Tessa present?

Yes? Go to 5

No? Go to 6

5 Tessa speaks (check for others)

6 (check for others)

...

end

The engine skips empty lines, so the pauses shouldn't be too bad.

Is it possible for a dialogue to be coded to appear when you look at your first corpse, regardless of who it is?

Yes.

He'll take his pants off, if necessary, just not his shirt. :P

Edit: And I forgot to mention it, but please take a look at the fumbles thread when you get a chance. I tried to mirror the Magical Mishaps table, but some things are bound to be different since neither Mana nor Spellpower apply.

I know Etienne's healing is very frou-frou and lady-like BUT HE DOESN'T HEAL THAT WAY, BERELINDE.

Late response, but you lot got me cracking up so bad

And Berelinde, do you mean something like this?

Exactly like that! Thanks! I'll copy the dialogue to the mod folder in a little while. I'll probably post a "Mod dialogue" thread at some point with links to the various mod dialogue files to make it easier to track.

You might want to check some of the links for looping. I've got a few Player Option links I can't track back to anything coherent. That's every modder's nightmare, by the way. Which is why, during playtesting, we have to repeat each dialogue in its entirety, clicking all of the response options to see if it makes sense after coding.

Actually, I think it's just the "Are you alright?". That kind of needs some player input.

Sorry, just made up something quickly in between meetings. I'll take a better look at it later when I'm home :)

Now that we have some characters who are a bit low on health, it might be a good time to talk about character death.

Your character does not die when you reach 0hp. (No enemy roll will ever drop you below 0.) Your character is dying, and will die unless aided by another character. Any successful action that restores lost health will work: a Heal spell, the Heal action, certain skill use (the one that's pronounced like "surgery," but is spelled with a CH). Note that dying characters cannot take a breather to recover health, even after their death has been averted by successful healing. Sleep will restore health normally, but you cannot fall asleep in the middle of combat.

If your character reaches 0 health and is not immediately helped, he or she will die in 2+Constitution rounds. A character with 1 Constitution will die in 3 rounds. The timer does not start counting down the instant your character reaches 0 health. It starts on your turn in the next round, so there is a chance to save even characters with -2 Constitution (not that we have any of those - impossible to roll with minroll(2).)

Dying characters can speak, perhaps alerting others nearby to their condition, but they cannot bellow across the battlefield. I will tell you if a Perception(Hearing) test is required. Characters in adjacent battle squares will notice without the need of a hearing test, so if Bartha falls, Laurelin will hear, but Tempest would probably need to roll a hearing test.

I was wondering that, between Bartha and Beldin, damn. :P

Tempest is actually doing a lot worse than either of them, health-wise.

Fashion tip for the magically inclined: Rock Armor is the runway hit of the season.

Wolves don't do a lot of damage, so that 4-point damage reduction Rock Armor would give you means a lot. You can't do much about that now, but remember it when you level up!

Tempest is up next, and then we're into Round 6

Helpful wolves are helpful! :D

They're probably just running from the even scarier thing en route to finish us off!

So, is it possible for Laurelin to meditate and regain some mana points, instead of taking a breather or getting healed?

As I assume that the wolves won't start fleeing until it's their turn, I've made a normal attack with Bartha.

Wolves aren't really all that brave. Their morale breaks fairly easily.

She regains 1d6+Magic mana points per hour of rest and meditation. She can start now, but that would remove her from post-combat RP and she would probably not be able to participate in the remainder of the farm exploration. You only have 4 more buildings to explore.

Everybody gets a parting attack as normal regardless of where they fall in the combat order. The wolves have the same speed (more or less) as most of the party, so even those later in the line-up can run a few steps and get a shot in. So, yeah, normal attack is possible. But if Bartha does not take a breather immediately afterward, she will lose her ability to do so.

Of course, but I assumed that the wolves would not start fleeing until it's their turn, so Bartha has no clue that the battle is about to end :) She will definately collapse/take a breather once the adrenaline drops (i.e. the immediate threat is over)

The wolves kind of jumped their turn a little. They kind of lost interest after the last round of attacks killed half their number.

The idea was to try to wrap up combat and get back into exploration mode, but final attacks were and are a possibility, if that's what brings your character closure for that encounter. What that means to each character depends on the character. I can definitely see feisty Bartha not letting the bastards go without a fight! (Beldin's 900% done with the whole thing and he's just going to let them go while he stands around and pants and licks his wounds... not literally, of course, since this is a family show...)

Oh yeah, if I'd roll doubles Bartha would have gone mental on those poor wolves  But once they're gone, she'll drop.

Oh come on, there was that whole 'takes of pants, but not his shirt' thing going on, and now he's prude all of a sudden?

I think that if he started licking that area in public, Etienne would faint.
