Tomorrow's game post will involve the re-trial of a convicted felon. At least I don't have to warn this group to stay in character in the game thread.

Oh, and bring popcorn. :)

Edit: The good news is that once this is over, that particular topic will be talked to death and it will either be a resolved character arc... or a "resolved" character. I wonder if this is how GRR Martin feels...

Aw, Beldin. :( Tempest's still got your back, oddly enough...

Is there going to be anything different about this game post? (Subject matter aside. :P )

Or will it just be a normal "You post the game post, we react to it"?

I'll post the game post. Your characters will have the opportunity to reply as always. As always, your characters may wish to interact with someone in the courtroom in some way or take some relevant action. Or your character may opt to go back to the library, grab an ale at the tavern, chat up a fellow companion, or whatever.

In other words, there aren't any special rules. It's just a post that relates situational information and synchronizes everyone's watches.

Oh, and eventually, your characters will have to make a decision.

Now I'm curious about what you expected.

It isn't another 18-page joint post, if that's what you mean.

I didn't expect anything to be different, but I thought it better to ask, and not have needed to ask, rather than not ask and be confused. :)

I think this is the first big game changer we've had, yes?  :)

Maybe the cast will change, maybe it will not. It will be up to your characters to decide. ;)

Either way, though, the group dynamic will be different. :)

I'm actually looking forward to this. :)

I've already got my popcorn ready to pop. :D

I should probably apologize for dropping that enormous forum bomb on you all. Mahumia and I have been working on it all week (apart from a few days when work became too overwhelming), and we had a blast writing it. The ending came as a bit of a surprise, at least to me, but the rest has been planned for weeks.

Holy shitballs... what happened to Beldin's plot armor???

He never had any! He gave the Logerwold quest to Rael himself. Heck, I'm not even sure he gets the usual 2+constitution rounds before death if he falls in combat!

He gave her a quest? When did that happen???

You're taking away his death save? Dang, Berelinde, you really want him dead!  :o

On the contrary, he's probably one of my favorite NPCs to date, but he remains an NPC. I can award humanoid NPCs death saves as part of the rules, but if I do it for him, I have to do it for (named) enemies, too (but not mooks). Granted, most of the time, when an enemy goes down, the party has already won the fight, so the enemy NPCs would die anyway, but it is something to keep in mind.

And he gave Rael the quest when he was telling her all about Martin. Something along the lines of "I came to Vintiver to get aid for Logerwold."

Tempest has pretty vehement feelings about the situation, so she'll definitely voice her opinion.

He may need it! I've written tomorrow's post, and it's ready to go live at first light... or whenever my cats wake me up.

As a fellow cat parent, I completely understand. ;)

Tempest really feels that she and Beldin have bonded as friends, so she'll do her best to protect him and get him to stand up for himself.

Rael's reaction to all this may surprise you... or not...

Ok. So we do have options. I honestly assumed this was planned as his exit. :)

Tempest's reaction is surprising me, to be honest. Had the situation been described to me in the abstract, I would not have guessed she would take the side she's taking. She's a complex creature. :P

How this goes could affect her future with the party I'm afraid.

Not with Rael.

Aw, I'm so glad that poor, lonely book found some love.

And I feel so warm and fuzzy! No, this isn't a planned exit, and I'm sorry I made it sound as if it was. But it is an opportunity for people to gain RP experience (points), and also to construct arguments one way or another (anybody who asks logic-based questions gets extra XP because I think logic puzzles are awesome). Tarl is a logical man, but it's after midnight and he's been riding without rest for more than 24 hours. He's not at his best.

In other words, it's a non-combat encounter with a certain element of jeopardy. Nothing more. :)

And Beldin definitely feels a bond of trust with Tempest, as you may find out tomorrow...

Just to let you guys know, I'm going to be away from the computer for the first half of the day tomorrow, but will post in the evening, so don't take off too far without Tempest ;)
