Tempest talks, I swear! :P She just isn't good at making the first move when it comes to conversation. ;)

Don't worry; the others are really good at approaching standoffish characters.

And of course I miss the whole chat-thing (and have no idea where everyone is hiding anyway)  :crying:

I was just wondering: I'm used to not post 'thoughts' in forum roleplay, as we cannot read minds: it is practically metagaming. I would try to explain expression/body language though, so one can respond to that. Sure I don't mind if others do post their thoughts, I just won't respond to that, or might ask 'what's up?' when someone has a sad body language, for example (even if one has just posted a wall of text explaining). Is everyone ok with that?

Yeah, that would be my assumption for how things would work. I went into what Tempest was thinking because I thought it would interest the players, but obviously the characters wouldn't know. :)

To the characters, Tempest would just be a jumpy quiet lady. ;)

Fair enough :) I am just used to the larp-approach of 'find that out in character', which is why my posts are probably waaaay shorter than all yours...

It kind of depends upon your background. If you're primarily a fiction writer, you may be inclined to let readers into your characters' heads, but that is not a universal truth. I recently read an article about purging words like "thought" and "felt" (and almost all adjectives) from the author's vocabulary to force them to show, not tell, their characters' emotions through dialogue, body language, or actions. I've been experimenting with it in my fanfiction (and here, to be honest), but it can become burdensome. For example, instead of writing "Kesla is a warm, gregarious host," I might let her say or do warm, gregarious things. But that would really force me to choose which characters need development when. If I establish the speech patterns and mannerisms of every single NPC using nothing but active, reader-participation text, it would bog down quick.

Edit: I apologize for my unanticipated absence yesterday. I got stuck working a double shift.

Ooooh, that would be super tricky for me. I'm a fiction writer so yes, I'm used to giving full mental access to the thoughts of my MC. And I've always done RPGs where not only do we have a lot of that posted internal dialogue, but our posts correlate there, too. Like so:

Etienne didn't feel like talking today, for he was exhausted from his midnight run.

Jessica didn't feel much like talking either and locked eyes with him instead.

BUT, you present a brilliant point and I'd be more than happy to try at least cutting down on it, since I'd hate to tempt anyone to metagame.

Please, do not change your writing or posting habits on my account! Under no circumstances will I tell you how to write!

Tell your character's story however you want!

I was just rambling about a writing experiment I've been attempting, and it applies only to my own work, no one else's. I mean, I won't stop you from trying it, if that's something you really want to do, but you shouldn't feel as if you have to, or that one way is better than another.

I'm not sure anybody should follow my example. My writing is entirely too dialogue-heavy for easy reading. But gotta get to work. Have fun storming the castle. Oh, wait. That's next week...

(I kid, I kid)

WILL THERE BE DRAGONS?

Okay. :) I still think it might be a good idea to cut down on it a wee bit, otherwise Etienne will have no surprises. (Though -- let's be honest here -- the only surprise he possibly has is what sort of conditioner he's using, as some secrets should never be told.)

It is definitely something to be aware of. I try to limit mine to things a character might be able to figure out via facial expression or what have you.  But it *is* something I will try to be aware of when I write. :D (Also, I love this group. :) )

Personally so far it's been kind of necessary to explain my character's motivations and thoughts since many of her actions wouldn't make sense otherwise.

She's can also be perceptive and tends to over analyse things, these things include gestures and facial expressions, because it's far easier for her to communicate with body language, than words.
But from now on,I will also try to reveal as little of her thoughts as possible, unless I'm going to do something that contradicts her personality, that requires some short of explanation. :D

I've got a feeling that Rael and Etienne may wind up as sweethearts if this keeps up. They're adorable. But I do wonder how hungover Etienne will be in the morning. Sweet red wine is the worst offender.

He's going to be so hung over he might forget to *gasp* DO HIS HAIR.

Etienne: *groans in misery, pulls on ugly mage hat, calls it a day, sleeps in bread platter*

No need to adjust your type of writing peeps! I just wanted to explain what I did, and ensure everyone agreed with it, otherwise I would adjust it and add thoughts etcetera.

Just do what you prefer the most :)

Totally OOC and offtopic, but I figured that not everyone over here would look at the old Cullen thread anymore... so I'll brag a bit over here

This Friday is Independence Day in the United States. I have no plans to delay the next plot post on Saturday, but I understand that people may well be busy with social obligations all weekend.

With that in mind, please be sure to wait until everyone has made their game post before we split off into RP posts. I don't want anybody to feel pressured or interrupt RL plans just to beat some deadline.

Got a busy weekend ahead, but not due to 4th of July stuff :) So I don't mind if we take it a bit easier.

I'll be off and on most of the weekend. :D

Berelinde, could you clarify? I'm slow today. Okay - most days, but more today that normal. So like you make the post for the next thing we're doing and everyone needs to make their initial posts in that thread before we can do our own thing?

Precisely.

The post I make, the one with "Plot Post" in blue, advances the story to the next phase.

Everybody makes their own game posts, where they state what they're going to do based on the plot post. After that, people can chat among themselves to their heart's content or work on personal story arcs that don't affect the entire group.

I'm asking for people to post their actions, but hold back on the side projects until everyone has had a chance to say what they're going to do.
