Yeah, I'm going to have to wait to let Beldin react to that one after I've got some chores out of the way. Please don't move on without me!

Thanks, I was hoping you'd do that. I was going to suggest that they both notice her... er... entrance just as they're finishing up their interaction. Whether it's a handshake or a sock in the jaw, I think the timing would be amusing. And amusement is the name of the game!

Aw, Tess is completely adorkable! That was awesome!

You know, with advance warning, somebody could hold Laurelin's tunic out and she could fly inside and transform so that she's actually wearing the tunic, but I wouldn't have traded this for the world! I can't wait to see Etienne's reaction!

Either that or Beldin may wind up swallowing his own tongue. He hasn't really had a lot of experience with nude women. Not live ones, anyway.

Do I even want to know why Beldin has experience with nude dead women? :o

In the garrison, twice. Once while investigating highwaymen and once during a plague while helping round up and burn victims.

D'aww, you adorable lot you

And I assume that Bartha will have to make a lot of dex tests to see if she can get away?

Well hey, I'd get a fright too if someone would all of a sudden shapeshift. No matter how many fireballs I'd seen up close :P

*groan* I'm having one of those days... I feel bored, and totally don't feel like picking up one of the projects I should be doing... And here everyone is asleep, so I can safely rant :P

Hmm... to be honest: the more I think about it, the more I consider the upcoming events as a possible exit for Bartha. And no, it is not that I don't like her or the group: quite the opposite! I don't know... just getting a bit 'stuck' with her, I guess.

My unsolicited 2 coppers: I would be very sad if you left us, Mahumia. Very sad, indeed. So don't. :P

Also, once we reunite the group, I hope that Bartha will have a few more options.

Lastly, *group hug*.

Agreed! What can we do to convince you to stay?

I too want Mahumia to stay, and I want Bartha to stay as well, but if Bartha isn't working out the way she wanted, I would rather see her either tweak a few things (we're having a conversation about that now) or try a different character. That's kind of what I was getting at in the specializations thread. Sometimes, you think a character will be fun to play and it isn't, so there is nothing wrong with trying something else. If it's for the right reasons.

I don't think Bartha is hopeless. There's a lot of great potential there, and I don't think it would take much for her to be as entertaining to play as she is to interact with. But we're going to have work that out. I know that we're all cheering for her, and that we'll help her find her niche.

Actually, this might be the best time for Mahumia to reinvent Bartha. Fiance has been pestering me nonstop about joining. I've been telling him that no, we've got plenty of players and he missed his chance, but he's been grumbling about it and wants in on the fun. There's a good place to introduce a new character coming up, and it might be better for everyone to let them establish or re-establish their characters together. It isn't easy to join an established group, nor is it easy to reinvent a character once he or she is already present in the game. If they're both doing it together, it might actually be easier because they wouldn't feel so left out.

John's character is a male human rogue, but he's mostly focused on melee skills and metalworking (i.e. locks) as opposed to picking pockets or intrigue, although he does rely on stealth a good deal. I tried to convince him that we need an archer more, but John insisted that the weapon style was part of the character. There's a lot more to it than that, but if you are willing to consider it, it would probably be best if you found out in game. I will say that he's Antivan. I will also say that he isn't quite what you think, even if at first, he seems to be exactly what you think.

What do you guys think? If you say he's in, I'll see if I can get BioWare to let him register. If you say we're full up, I will tell him that he'll have to keep pining in secret.

I agree very much that if a character isn't fun to play, it's time to sort something out. I was just more worried about losing Mahumia. :D

And I don't have a problem with your fiance joining, either. (We need to start a mercenary company, I swear. *grin*)

YOU BETTER NOT LEAVE US, MAHUMIA. <3 You are one of ussssss~

But I understand a character not fitting well. I think sometimes we get lucky, lol, when a char does pan out well. Do what you have to do! But please don't leave us.

As for the Fiance joining, I don't have a problem with that. I think we need to make sure that we go back to minding our posting order and not going too nuts on threads. Some have been going way fast lately and it's easy to get skipped a couple of times before your char can say their part. I've been flailing a lot lately over here myself. :S If we add another person, we'd need to be super wary of abandoning people.

Yeah, I've been worried about leaving people behind, too, but I think that if we're all super-conscientious about giving everyone a turn, we can make it work. And if that doesn't work, I have moderation privileges in this group. I can hide posts until the other players catch up. I wouldn't do it with heavy-handed abaondon, obviously, but if somebody starts getting too far ahead, I can hit pause that way. If - and I do mean if - that ever happened, I would send the person a PM saying what i did and why, and I'd copy the text of their post into the PM so they could re-post it once the other players had caught up.

That's...actually a decent solution.

Thinking about it, we might even be able to do it voluntarily by request, such as times when you're going to be away but you want your character to say or do something at a particular point. For example, we all know that we're going to go after Bartha. Maybe Tessa has something specific she wants to say (I know Beldin does!) but you know you're going to be away for a day or two and you don't want to miss your turn. It would probably be better if you dropped it in a PM for me to post for you as soon as the right moment comes, but that would be another way to handle it.

Or... and this is getting devious... we could have done the business with Etienne's gloves like that. Kat could have posted in the game thread that she was stealing his gloves, I could have hidden  it, and then unhidden it once Etienne noticed they were gone.

Just something to think about, I guess. But don't worry, I'm not going to go around hiding people's posts without saying anything about it.

My thoughts run as follows:

I am fine with another player, and with Mahumia switching things up if she so chooses.

I agree that we need to streamline the posting process though, especially if we're going to add another. (Ruth I don't know how you manage to handle all this!) Sometimes, I've felt like the thread has slowed, and I don't know why. And sometimes it goes very quickly. It's in the nature of the medium to be somewhat inconsistent, so maybe some rules would be be best. Unfortunately, I think that might mean more work for Ruth.

It seems like there are three types of situations on the thread:

  1. Downtime where people can post whatever, and often do so in PMs. I feel like this works reasonably well, though it may look like the thread is all but inactive. If we do this, maybe people can put in the thread (in parentheses) that they're having a convo. For example, ((Sarel and Tempest are having a conversation in the library in PM))
  2. Structured time around events where everyone is reacting to important things that have happened. I think we all agree that everyone should get a chance to react to things before they move on. We've been pretty good about waiting here, I think. People might also do PMs here if they let everyone know. It might also be good for Ruth to do a game post saying: This is what's happening and where. Everyone needs to react, even if it is to say that they don't say anything.
  3. Combat is initiative-based--therefore, extremely structured. I don't think we need to make changes here.

What would help me is if Ruth lets us know that we're in a particular part of the story and nothing moves forward, time-wise, until she says so. There have been times when ppl post about the next morning when my character was still doing stuff the night before etc. I think we should only act in the moment unless Ruth tells us otherwise.

Perhaps more PMs to Ruth to explain intentions would be good, especially if you're going to be gone. For example, if I know I'll be unable to post for a day or two, I might tell Ruth, "Before everyone goes to sleep, Rael is going to play a few songs for everyone to lighten the mood." I could even write it up in a PM (I like that idea) and she could post it when appropriate. Like I said, Ruth, we may be availing ourselves of your role as GM more in the future. Perhaps that will keep the pace and consistency up.

How does that sound to everyone? (Sorry about the extreme length/possible lack of coherency.)

(Kat, you can definitely tell you're a teacher. *grin*)

I can agree with everything you said, while at the same time cringing at how much more work for Ruth that's gonna be.

I do think the idea of using post hiding and PMing posts to Ruth when needed is a pretty decent solution.

But, I also would like to say that after Ruth's fiance, we put a cap on anyone else joining, because I would be worried about people feeling left out, as well as characters being less explored because there would be so much going on.

Above all, I love this group and would hate for it to go south. :D

~Tracie (I figured since everyone else was bandying names around, I'd toss mine in)

Thanks all *big hug*. I'm just feeling a bit miserable (and it isn't that time of the month), and some increasing issues with the character... but I hope to stay, as I love this group way too much.

Regarding posting: I agree with the 'no time-jumps, unless indicated by the GM', as things get confusing... I guess it's also a good idea to discuss things with Ruth if you are not sure about something. Then we won't get another 'small farm turned into a villa'.

I really do my best to limit my posting till everone has responded, but I think I might be guilty of spamming... so feel free to poke me if I do.
