It may comfort Tessa to know that she isn't going last. Tom, the quarterstaff-wielding rogue is, because he's dead.
I have a comment for the GM.

Just as a heads up about timing, we're working on a PM conversation between Tempest and Rael that will hopefully take place during the current night after the group returns to the manor.
Their chat is shaping up to be be the length of a small novel, so bring snacks and a comfy chair when the time comes.
WAITAMINNUT
Are these guys the two drunkards Etienne sent running from the bar?
Nope.
Dead Tom!
Anyone else think of Muppet Treasure Island?
I know, right? Bartha isn't taking anyone's sh*t. ![]()
It's Bartha's turn, then Rael's, then Mercuriel's. Dog and Fenharel may go once the owner gives them direction.
But let's give Bartha some time. I think Mahumia is putting something special together, so I don't want to rush her. But before anybody jumps to any conclusions, she is not planning Bartha's exit!
Sorry for being late! I had a lot of things to arrange today... Had to go to the vet with two of the shelter pets (I run a shelter for fancy rats with some friends) and bring them to a friend, for they will need their medication in the coming week, and my mum is not going to do more than enter my house and throw food around for them.
/rantmode on. Due to new antibiotics policy, vets are no longer allowed to hand out the stronger antibiotics without doing a labtest first. Very nice: rodents are already dead before you get the result from the lab... Anyway: I have a shelter rat with a bladder infection. Serious stuff: if left untreated they can easily die, as it will expand to the kidneys and other areas. So I went to the vet with her last week... no, I would have to try the other antibiotics first for a week... today I went back, and behold: I could get the right antibiotics, as the other ones hadn't had any effect... now she is in a very bad condition, and it is quite possible that she won't even survive the night... I mean, I understand the policy, but when it is costing lives.... f*ck that policy and legislation! (And I am a bachelor of laws).... /rantmode off
Anyway... I've got a migraine, so I'll try to come up with a good reply for the thread, otherwise I'm afraid it will have to wait until tomorrow ![]()
Oh man! *hug* I hope your rat pulls through. And we'll wait, lady, if you can't post till tomorrow.
Hope your rat pulls through! I see you posted, but in the future, if something comes up, just do what you have to do and don't worry. We'll wait.
@Kat: Rael had time to aim. We got that sorted via PM, I thought.
I just wasn't sure if Sarel attacked in round 2 or 3... I don't know the range for the spell he cast.
Didn't want to act prematurely. ![]()
Things BFace does when she goes last in combat (Ok, fine. Second to last.
):
I draw way too much. Tess is almost finished.
I write way too much. I've written a fair amount of Tess's backstory and now want to write fanfiction about her. ![]()
I'm at the point, as I have this upcoming event in two weeks, where everything is done pretty much. All that's left is for me to spend the next two weeks being anxious about this show and planning what the holidays are going to look like for my Etsy shop.
So, I will have a little more time than normal on my hands and I'm really enjoying this group. I will do my best not to drive you all nuts.
Drive us nuts! Drive us nuts! ![]()
I hope your rat gets better soon, Mahumia!
(I'm a shelter volunteer too, but I work with cats.)
I posted this on the vacations thread, but just as a reminder: I'm going out of town Friday/Saturday. I'll only be gone for about 24 hours all told, but I won't have internet where I'm going so I will not be able to post Friday evening. I'll be home by Saturday evening.
If you need to go ahead and post for Tempest while I'm gone to keep things moving, her combat preference is to heal an ally if needed and to use her buff on a party member if not.
Oh, I volunteer at the local animal shelter too (usually at the cats department). I started with looking after stray rats when the animal ambulance called me last year with: "You have rats, right? Would you mind looking after two we just picked up with the ambulance?"
It's just ridiculous how full all shelters are just after the holiday period (I want to hit all the people that are like 'we go on holiday, and we refuse to spend a cent on our pets, so we just throw them outside.'), and still we keep getting requests to take in groups of 5+...
At least my migraine is over (yay!), and heard nothing about the ill rat... so I hope that no news means good news.
And Bramble, I really would love to see the drawing when it's finished and read your fanfic!
Glad the migraine is over!
Do people really do that? That's criminal!
Mercuriel goes next, followed by Etienne, Beldin, and Laurelin. I think Ann's got to be asleep by now, but we aren't in a hurry.
Don't worry about the enemies in the combat order. I'll post them a few at a time when I have the chance. I will ask you to pause at the conclusion of each round until I can post a new status report.
Edit: I'm not going to wait for John to post Fabian's initiative anymore. I'm just going to take it from the list of die rolls. Also, he wasn't really posting out of turn. That was his action during round 1, when the party first observed the bandits on the hillside. It will take him a while to reach you, obviously, even at a dead run, so he may miss the fun after all.
Oh, I figured that Fabian was still in Vintiver, and so waaaaay behind the group
So he can just post randomly, pretty much like I could when Bartha was on her own?
And yeah, people abandon their pets all the time. The 'regular' shelters (cats and dogs) are also crowded now. There is always a steep increase in 'stray' pets during the holiday season... I guess that is a global issue though. I was getting my hopes up when they finally started the initiative of having our own animal cops... sadly enough they put that on the shelf due to the crisis
Let's just stop with having pet shops sell pets for a start... to stop impulsive buying and decrease the demand for puppy mills... It is already forbidden to sell cats and dogs in a pet shop here... so why not the rest?
He wasn't posting randomly as much as posting late. He could have posted in Round 1, but he was taking a nap and I didn't want to hold everyone else up for a player who would take >5 rounds to reach the party. He's about 400 yards behind you. His movement rate is 13, so he can cover 26 yards per round. Which means that he won't arrive until Round 15. ![]()
Alright, that's kind of absurd. He'll probably show up when you guys are all taking your breathers.
In other news, I spent a lot of time researching Knock Prone with my tabletop group and the entry "Move" under minor actions seems to indicate that standing up after being knocked prone is a minor action. Sooo, that means that melee combatants with a readied weapon will be able to attack an enemy within range, but archers will be unable to fire that round because loading a launcher is also a minor action. Spell casters would not be able to prepare a spell, but they would still be able to cast Arcane Lance. In other words, all that time Bel spent on his butt during the first combat was wrong. (le sigh)
D'awww... but that would indeed make knock prone a lot less OP... actually rather useless against melee combatants. I figured that knock prone would be some 'pin to the ground' move, but it's more a 'tackle-and-let-go', than?
I wonder it it's possible to get into some wrestling/ground pinning fight? I figure it would be a constant strenght/dex test... but you have to try something if you're small, right? ![]()
And poor Fabian... we'd all be scrolling back to the village, chatting a bit... and there he comes, all ready for battle ![]()
Edit: I just noticed that the damage for Fists (brawling) is 1D3+1 (no armor modifier)... I think I'll have to try better during the next round.
He'll be so disappointed! Still, I imagine that he isn't inconsolable!
If you want to work out the particulars of weaponless combat, sure, we can work with that. We aren't limited to the stunts available in the Players' Guide (and we're already working through some mabari-specific content for the dogs, so why not?). Grapple-and-hold, Dirty Fighting, they're possibilities.
But yeah, it seems as if Knock Prone is just pushing them over. I don't mind giving ranged combatants the slight disadvantage here, as they can still use Defend as their major action, which gives them +2 to defense, and TBH, they don't really get hit an awful lot in combat, and an archer doesn't draw the aggro that a spell caster draws.

Hm, it's considered penetrating damage, is it? I'll have to look that up later, but if that turns out to be the case, I'll be sure to adjust the damage Bartha did accordingly.
Looking it up, I see that the damage for (unarmored) fist is given as 1d3+strength. No mention is made of any immunity to armor. Let's leave it for now, and I'll work through it when I get home.
Or I just have added it wrong to my own list... perhaps I accidently picked the one with the fist weapon. Argh, I'll look it up, one moment!
Yup, you are right, it's 1D3 for fists, and 1D3+1 for wearing a gauntlet... my bad! (it's on page 42 of the guide)
Edit: I can't find that you should add your strenght to it?
You *always* add strength to any melee damage, even empty handed damage. Archers always add perception to their damage rolls, and mages add magic to their arcane lance. ![]()
Ah ok
Thanks for the clarification!
Well, suitcase packed, papers ready... and tomorrow around this time I should be walking around in Chicago. I expect to pop up a bit in the evening though ![]()
