Does Overload 6b cause 220 more damage to Shields, or 660?
Does Overload 6b cause 220 more damage to Shields, or 660?
Using the MP character builders:
According to Kalence it's flat 660,
Narida says it is 660 multiplied by whatever bonus you picked up along the way, resulting in a true +100% to shields.
So it is 660 in either case, but personally I don't think that it takes previous boni into account.
But I could be wrong again...
6b should increase the shield multiplier by +100%, so instead of the default +300% it becomes +400%. I believe this applies only to shields and not to barriers, but I could be wrong.
Thank you for suggesting using Kalence to figure this out. I was comparing different evolutions and I found something interesting. According to Kalence, Overload 4b, 5a, 6a yeilds 2178 damage to shields and barriers, while Overload 4a, 5a, 6b yeilds 2112 damage to shields and barriers. Looks like I have been speccing Overload wrong. I should have been going the 4b, 5a, 6a route.
Overload multipliers are a little strange.
Base multipliers: 3x to shields and barriers, 0.5x to organic health, 1x synthetic health
Rank 5 Neural Shock: Adds another 3x multiplier for organic shields and barriers, changes organic health multiplier to 1x.
Rank 6 Shield damage: Increases synthetic shield multiplier to 6x, increases organic shield and barrier multiplier to 5x.
Basically the key takeaway is that overload behaves a little different between synthetics and organics. If you do not take Neural Shock, you will do more shield damage to synthetics. If you do take Neural Shock, you will do more shield damage to organics than synthetics.
Examples:
-Overload Rank 2 vs any shields or barriers
BaseDmg*(1+Sum_Bonuses)*3
-Overload with Chain, Recharge, Chain vs Phantom Barrier
BaseDmg*(1+Sum_Bonuses)*3
-Overload with Chain, Neural Shock, Chain vs Phantom Barrier
BaseDmg*(1+Sum_Bonuses)*(3+3)
^I wrote it like this because it is applied in two hits. You could simply use 6x for total damage if you want.
-Overload with Neural Shock + Shield Damage vs Phantom Barrier
BaseDmg*(1+Sum_Bonuses)*(3+5)
^Again written that way due to two hits, but it doesn't matter much in practice.
-Overload with Chain, Either, Chain vs Hunter
BaseDmg*(1+Sum_Bonuses)*3
-Overload with Chain, Either, Shield Damage vs Hunter
BaseDmg*(1+SumBonuses)*6

What does not make sense is the difference in the multiplier from the shield evolution vs the extra multiplier for the Neural Shock evolution. I don't know if someone messed this up when they were creating overload and Shield should have increased both Synthetic and Organic multipliers by 3, and Neural Shock should have only added 2x to organic shields. Hard to say really.
The fast summary is that base shield multiplier is 3x. Neural Shock increases organic shield and barrier multiplier to "6x." Shield evo at 6 increases synthetic multiplier by 3 (to 6x) and organic multiplier by 2x (to either "5x" or "8x" total).
6b will do 100% more damage to shields and barriers. This is multiplied by Overload's base damage not including any power amps or powers that increase power damage.
